It was very simple. You tell flaming ice they get a caution for initially continuing to play since Perle adding IS game-related, then upgrade it to a warning for not responding by just handshuffling (they should have written "I decided i will wait for YOUR judge call" since they didn't want to deal with their opponent). Then you explain Perlereino ruling to Alt. After that comes the fun part. You ask Alt "why do they suggest the opponent cheated (Perle) and will continue cheating (by playing)" since you made the original call due to NOT KNOWING if the opponent actually cheated or you are just misinformed and they play normally. With the wording Alt used, they could backtrack and say "I told them to continue then asked for a response on Ogre" despite NOT CANCELLING the call (after getting enough info about their hand as they did) OR first get more info about the opponent's hand (perle's add) then insist on not continuing to play waiting for the judge (and that would have been 100% in their favor). If they called without "malicious intent" they would have at least informed the opponent "ok continue playing, I just want to verify the ruling at this point" but they didn't do that in case a judge actually showed up due to Tearlament being horrible at backtracking gamestates so they would either go "accepted gamestate" or give flaming ice a game loss. The latter was what Alt hoped for, and the reason for their initial wording. I bet they would claim it was "sarcasm" and "very obvious" they wanted the opponent to stop playing (even if they later activated Ogre which makes the Perle search "Accepted gamestate" at this point since they stopped insisting on waiting for the judge) With this attitude + not canceling the call + changing their mind after info was made public, a judge could easily first give a warning for sharking (the initial perle search), then upgrade it to game loss because of unsporting conduct, then after that, inform floor/head judge about the incident and depending on their history make their penalty even more severe.

I hate that argument, because it should just be like flipping up a continuous trap where you have to essentially tell your opponent "just flipping it" or "no effect" to properly communicate the gamestate action. It should always be the same for field spells and continuous spells, for the sake of proper communication.

Those are two very different things. A continuous trap/spell doesn't fire up when activating, otherwise it'd be almost pointless to classify them as continuous s/t. Field spells resolve when activated because they're an entirely different type of card. If anything, continuous spells would be much stronger if their effects triggered when activating them.

@@EcaillesDeLune The example here is Tenki. It works the same as Perlereino (cant be Ogre'd, activates under droll, optional add if you just want the ATK boost). The issue here is the unclear wording. For example "Doomking Balerdroch" caused the same issues when players wanted to know if it would negate or banish. For context: Once per Chain, when a Zombie monster, except "Doomking Balerdroch", activates its effect (except during the Damage Step) (Quick Effect): You can apply 1 of these effects (but you cannot apply that same effect of "Doomking Balerdroch" again this turn). ● Negate that effect. ● Banish 1 monster from the field or GY. For field spells to clarify if they intend to add or not on activation the way they are worded, we would either have to make a ruling or word them as follows: When this card is activated: You can activate this effect; add 1 "Tearlament" monster to your hand. At that point there is a clear distinction if you activate the field spell just to place it or use the effect as well, but it would cause a lot of issues with Ogre etc on top of redundancy

Even if you don't have a legal search target, you still have to declare because that's the action of activating a card to be placed on the field. The adding part is optional (that's why it uses "when this card is activated: you can X"). Here in this case Perlereino has the pop effect that could be important enough to activate, even if the opponent was already under droll. For the field spell to work the way you mean, it would either have to create a separate chain link 2 where it searches OR be a mandatory add (that would prevent even the activation in the first place under droll/no search target)

I don't understand how you don't have to state that you are adding on activation when it's optional. How would you be able to ash if you don't know whether your opponent is attempting to add a card on activation? It doesn't make sense to me.

Field Spells (like Perle) or Continuous cards (like Tenki) have to activate in order to be placed on the field. The wording "you can" isn't a different chain link on the initial activation of the card. So you just simply activate your card, then when it resolves you may apply the optional part. This is the reason you can activate Perlereino under Droll (even if for the 2nd effect) but not something like "Gateway to Chaos" since that search part is mandatory (and what made it useful when Set Rotation was at 3)

@@creed4548 Ash CAN activate even if the opponent doesnt want to add (since this optional effect is PART of the activation, just like a Nadir with the only target in GY), so the real issue is "did i just waste my Ash" and that's why the blue player is s-Alt-y. But revealing on activation would give private information to the opponent. They just wanted an advantage, and a less informed player (unlike flaming) would have given it to them.

It's not necessary. The card CAN add on resolution, but doesn't have to. That's not the card's "main" effect as a field spell. In all my years of playing, it's always been "activate field spell; response?". If the field spell is something like Spyral Resort, it's different, because it adds once per turn on a different chain, but the Planets and things like Lightstage don't work that way.
