I feel like I am living in an 80's dystopian tv drama that has run for 40 years. Enough writers, and indeed history itself, warned us that this state of affairs would come to pass, and would be implemented slowly - like a dripping tap. Each single drop explained away, given some false justification, coughed over. Eventually all we hold dear is washed away, and all we can do is tread water. I expect a tax on treading next...

Mr Sunak's appointment or "crowning" is very similar to Sir Alec Douglas-Hume and he was defeated by Harold Wilson. Mr Sunak's and Sir Alec were crowned or selected in smoke filled rooms by grandees/the establishment, I agree they were not elected by the electorate as a whole but in some cases there contests but not in the two I mentioned

I emigrated to UK from Eastern Europe. For me the Conservative Party was the party of Thatcher and I imagined I will vote for it when I become a citizen.
