I have a more pertinent point to demonstrate how TotK is disappointing than the dog thing. Having to listen to the exact same overworld "themes". 6 years have passed, and music isn't the same headache to create as new functionalities are to implement. Yet I still have to listen to the EXACT same themes when I'm playing? The same horseriding theme, the same central hyrule theme, the same cold mountain theme, the same desert theme, what the hell? No wonder everyone (including me) is accusing the game of being nothing more than DLC. How hard could it have been to just phone the BotW composers, and ask them to come up with new themes that would have kept the same style as the originals? I'm starting to think the development team was really jerking off for 6 years, or something really unexpected happened that we don't know about yet.
@InfinityDz
@InfinityDz 9 ай бұрын
And I know the shrines and Hyrule castle had different themes, but my point is, the themes I've mentioned should have been changed in priority because they're the ones you heard the most since BotW came out. Personally, it's because I kept hearing the same themes while playing that I first asked myself "ok, what has changed this time?". Look at how different Majora's Mask's soundtrack is from OoT's! Or compare Spirit Track's soundtrack to Phantom Hourglass's! I'm telling you man, no effort whatsoever.

I 100% agree. I loved TotK and I liked BotW a lot for what it was even with its many flaws. I do agree that they’re basically the same game though due to the structure being nearly identical. I don’t think Nintendo could get away with doing something too similar for the next Zelda game and it worries me when I hear Eiji Aonuma say that this is the new template for Zelda. I really hope that they try some new ideas and bring back more traditional Zelda elements. I personally think the biggest thing they need to remove is shrines. They really feel like a band-aid solution for an empty overworld. Also the rewards in BotW and totk for completing quests and side quests rarely feel worth it. Again I’m happy with BotW and TotK but I’m ready for some big changes in for future Zelda.

This. There's only so many times you can complete a Shrine and get either _another_ spirit orb or a rusty, breakable weapon that you just... stop going in them. Which leaves you with two options: 1. Ride your horse, use your glider, climb mountains, and explore the world. Do side quests with NPCs and collect all of the thingies. Fun, for a while. 2. Complete the main story and finish the game. Once it's over, it's over. Neither is really all that enticing. I miss the old games where you couldn't wait to see what happened next - where you rushed to save Zelda or Aryl and to defeat Ganondorf. Now, you just kind of... do whatever you want, which just ultimately makes me want to do something else. I don't want the autonomy to wander aimlessly through this empty world - I want to be spurred along on a roller coaster of adventure and excitement as a sweeping epic story unfolds around me.

And it still got overshadowed by baldurs gate. I was in love when that happened. They’re so arrogant and shameless that they’d delay their trash game so they wouldn’t have to compete with developers who cared, arrogantly thought that they’d destroy everyone in the next year because of their “Zelda” name, and still get beat out by a much smaller dev team lmao. After every bosses I was like, thank god its finally over and I don't have to do this shit again, but nope, heres the same badly desing boss 6 more times. Exploration was fun but reward were just bad and useless. The catacombs and the caves sux in general too. Storie is ... fine ig? Didn't really care tbh. And the worst part is the combat, it just sux. I think they should have made a dark souls 4 insted (DS3 had much better boss fight then elden mid). Did 2 playtrought and the only thing that the game did well is waste my fu*king time. (Like totk, but less fun). Also, its not a "git gud" issue, I first tried most of the bosses. Really hope we don't get an other elden ring and they go back to dark souls.

Everyone who thinks that TotK is a DLC to BotW is automatically loses all credibility when talking about games. Period. It is just some people like to find reasons to reinforce their beliefs by seeing only what aligns with their 'truth'. Many of your points tells me your understanding of how a good game is made is lacking. They could release it faster, but with how many bugs and glitches? 'To hell with testing a ton of new mechanics, I am sure they could and should have released it sooner, just because.' And it is kinda funny how you tell us about all the things TotK did right in comparison with BotW few minutes after basically calling it a 70$ DLC) Imagine how much more enjoyable this game would have been for if only not for all this 'we waited too long, not much new stuff, overpriced, plot holes (and some of them aren't plot holes at all if you ask some)' BS. For what this game gives it may be worth even 100$ and here (even in comments) we see people complaining about useless stuff even after enjoying playthrough. Sometimes after hearing some similar 'DLC' thoughts I ask myself if we even deserve new games, when many fail to see a monumental work needed to make a sequel of this quality..

*To further BotW's sheer superiority, I will say this:* TotK's story is bad, Fs with pre-established key lore aspects, absolutely shatters all the Master Sword's reputation, unga bunga buff Dorf with little to no ambition other than "me strongest there is" uninteresting, nearly everyone forgot who you were despite this game taking place a mere 4-6 years after Wild, Rauru existing is an insult, no Fi, no breaking of the Demise curse despite it being falsely hinted being the case what with all the Skyward Sword PR this game got (I distinctly remember Skyward Sword being advertised as heavily linked to TotK somehow which, again, is misleading as on Nintendo's part), no dog petting, no hookshot spiderman swinging with the physics being suuuuch a driving factor in these newer Zelda games, no underwater exploration instead a damp dark smelly overgrown cave can't see jack, COLLOSAL missed opportunity to hitch the princess with her handsome knight in shining armor, no stakes since Zelda's sacrifice was reversed giving the story little to no agency or consequence, Link as a protagonist felt nonexistent feels like everyone else was the star of the show not the guy who's saving all their 🫏s, no Link backstory before any of this went down aka no Arryl 2 or Granny 2 aka NOT WIND WAKER, didn't make me cry like Twilight Princess, dungeons are STILL NOT dungeons (pulling a couple levers to open a door and then be treated with literally the same copy-paste cutscene at the very end with each champion? Yeah naw), sky islands hardly anything worth noting although they are pretty asf to look at, I was expecting a totally NEW revamped endgame super Saiyan master sword golden tier 4 legendary new hilt new everything but naw same design with a booboo scar and hilariously less powerful... hoverbike autobuild pales in comparison to THE Master Cycle As a game, sure, it's leagues above BotW but BotW will never be topped as a one-in-a-lifetime *experience* TotK was an overblown $70 DLC and I'm tired of pretending it's not. nervousgamer: "BotW is a bad Zelda game." Also nervousgamer: "A Zelda game that actually tries to be a Zelda game is also a bad Zelda game if it reuses assets from the previous." E-Sports Gamers: "First time?" You really can not win with haters can you? Doesn't matter whether a game feels like tradition or not. If the game has just one minor flaw, it's immediately the worst game ever! Imagine hating a good e-sports game for using the same engine or assets as the worst one. Just because a game reuses the same assets, doesn't mean that it's bad or that it's just dlc. Smash Ultimate felt like an enhanced port of Smash 4 at first. Now, it's significantly better than Smash 4, despite what a lot of people are saying now days. Also, the only significant difference between TotK and MM as sequels is the world. MM has a different world than OoT. TotK has the same world from BotW, but a lot has changed since BotW and there's two more worlds to explore. And on top of that, the gameplay feels different than in BotW. Familiar due to a lot of similarities but different due to the new abilities allowing for new creative possibilities that didn't exist in BotW. If TotK is dlc, then where's the remote bombs, cryonis, magnesis, and stasis runes from BotW? Or the Champion abilities for that matter! Where's the Divine Beasts and all Sheikah Shrines and Resurrection Towers from BotW? I don't see them anywhere in TotK! What happened to all the special arrows like the Fire Arrows, Shock Arrows, Ice Arrows, Bomb Arrows, and Ancient Arrows that were usable without the use of fuse with materials? And where are the cave systems in BotW? What about the Horriblins, Gleeocks, Like Likes, Gibdos, and Aerocudas? Where are they in BotW? I didn't know that BotW's world already had these things! lol! 😂Haters can be really silly sometimes! And the funny thing is is that I at one point was worried that TotK was gonna feel like just dlc or that it's just glorified dlc. But you know what happened when I had that mindset? I got a lot spite and even got blocked on Twitter for having a such a mindset. But now that it's out, and we've all played the game, suddenly, that makes it okay to have that mindset? Even though, it's flat out in our faces that it's wrong? I mean sure you could just say that it's a bad sequel, but just as much of a bad Zelda game as BotW? Even though TotK fixed some of BotW's biggest issues? I'm sorry, you can probably get away with saying that it's a bad sequel or not a sequel, but one thing that TotK definitely is NOT, is a bad Zelda game. TotK is a decent Zelda game because a least, unlike it's predecessor, BotW, TotK actually tried to be a Zelda game. TotK is, at the very least, a step in the right direction. It's not great, but it's definitely more of a Zelda game than BotW. In matter of fact, it's what BotW should've been to begin with. TotK > BotW

Remember how you said in your BOTW video how “it was not a bad video game, but it was a bad Zelda game”. I think a good way to phrase TOTK similarly would be “it’s not a bad game, but it is a bad sequel”. I have grown up with Nintendo and they have made some of the most innovative sequels of all time. Especially during the GameCube and Wii eras. They would use different artstyles, worlds, mechanics, etc. Mario Sunshine was a sequel to Mario 64. TTYD was a sequel to the original Paper Mario. Those games looked, felt and where their own games entirely. I had some high moments in TOTK now that there is much more life in the world, but it’s still the same world! It’s cool and all, but I can’t help but feel like this “sequel” should have just been the original BOTW game on its own.

Technically all games are a sequel of each other. Like all the 3D zeldas are (kinda) sequels off of each other or their points in the timeline. We’ve only had a few direct sequels like this game and majora. Whether the game had enough new stuff to be that sequel still is something i still sit with but i dont see it as it ever was or was supposed to be the same type of game as sunshine was to 64 for example - where its just a different game. What im trying to say is i dont think tears was necessarily a bad sequel as it basically took the concept of botw further and flipped much of botw on its head which is kinda what a sequal needs to do (arguable to the extent it did that but). Think MG2 or Prime 2 as compareable sequels

I know I'm in the minority for this, but BOTW and TOTK have spelt a very sharp departure from what Zelda has meant to me. What once was a series designed around a concise adventure with elements of exploration, has dove so far into being exploration for exploration's sake, that I honestly can't find find myself to care about the games now. The main story is all in vague flashbacks just so that you can facilitate sprinting around a largely empty field, speckled by bokoblin camps. Not one main story or side quest made me feel even remotely as invested as those in past, and side characters don't even come close to holding the same hold on me as previous ones do. The series has become exploration for exploration's sake. There's nothing meaningful with that mountain you traversed; just another korok, generic shrine, or view that you delude yourself into being special, when really all you've done is change the scenery. This is the first time where I can't recommend someone play a previous Zelda game, because TOTK is so obsessed with being a better BOTW, that there's no point in playing BOTW, even for the story. The Calamity effectively doesn't exist, as TOTK effectively pretends it didn't happened so that it can repeat the same story beats for the imprisoning war. No amount of goblin glider, dick cannons, and korok torture machines can overcome the fact that I came here for good puzzles, concise story, and decent dungeons (We can't even get that FFS) The fact that Nintendo has said this is the gameplay they want going forward, I'm not happy. I want an concise story with well designed dungeons and puzzles; not another vapid open world with crafting, pause healing, and exploring just so you can get a pretty picture.

Well stated, I really wish they would make one more 'classic' Zelda with real dungeons, items needed for progression & make it dark, hard, serious. They probably won't do it as any puzzle in shrines are way too easy, maybe to appeal to younger audiences like children. Spider robots with laser beams, magical Ipad slate, rockets are too 'modern' & do not feel like classic Zelda

I was having more fun with it, but weapon durability and lack of variety ( it still has the same shrines and korok seeds to bad out the rewards) really dampened my fun. Fusion is fun but it absolutely does not solve weapons being disposable garbage, in fact it only adds an extra layer of grind and makes finding special unique weapons feel pointless because odds are, your ugly lionel horn sword is better than the callback weapon you spent hours finding or the literal bow of light that lays on hyrule castle and is much easier to replace instead of grinding poe souls to fill up an inventory of fierce deity swords completely taking away what made them special

TOTK is one of those games that i just can't come to like at the end of the day. For everything good I have to say about it there's something negative that goes right alongside it. Like ultrahan and fuze, It's amazing that they were able to get these mechanics to work so well, and the creativity it allows for some really impressive creations. But, when it comes to how a Zelda game plays Ultrahand/fuze breaks nearly every element of puzzle solving and exploration because of a lack of restrictions placed on it. Everything from story, to combat, to dungeons etc have these same sort of conflicting issues. Non of this helped by the fact that the felling of deja vu sets in because of how much of the adventure just feels like were retreading the same ground. I hope when the next game comes they can find a way to marry the things that worked with past zelda titles and combine it with the amazing feeling of exploring a vast new landscape like in BOTW and TOTK.

I had the opposite take for the game. I enjoyed BOTW more despite disliking it. Outside of the dungeon aesthetic, it felt like they double downed on any criticism and made the same open world sandbox. Where BOTW felt like Skyrim with a Zelda sticker, TOTK felt like Minecraft with a Zelda sticker. I enjoyed the dungeon designs but it was very much the same barren dungeon with the same generic Zonai(save Desert) that pointed out where to go. The bosses though were significantly better. The building aspect I found tedious and will realistically be mainly used for KZbin short and TikTok views by a select player base. The biggest hindrance was the freedom. By giving the player so much freedom, they made everything the same difficulty. And most things could be solved by ascend, time rewind, or hover bike. You kind of had to force yourself to think outside of box since the easiest solution worked every time. And the story ended up being identical for each sage because you can’t give important story beats to any sage if you can do anything in any order. I hope they rein it in a little. Weapon degradation is still awful. I know a lot of people liked it because you had to adapt. For me, my weapon broke, the enemy dropped his, I pick it up. No weapon felt special or unique including the Master Sword. I don’t expect them to change much going into the next entry but I can always hope that they will bring back some aspects of the original formula. I don’t see why they had to throw away every aspect of a formula and replace it with a different formula in the open world sandbox that’s been around almost as long as the classic Zelda formula.

"Feels nothing like it" is a huge stretch, botw into totk true combo is just modern day OOT and MM. MM is OOT with masks and a new map and a time mechanic

You would have to be DELUSIONAL to unironically compare TotK to MM as if they're in the same boat. MM was made in less than a year with its own entire world, 4 dungeons, multiple transformations with their own unique controls, and a bustling main town hub area. TotK took 6 whole years despite using the same exact overworld as BotW and sparsely dotted the sky with a few literally nothing islands and inverted the map to quickly create the depths (they flat out admitted in an interview that the depths were made in a short time frame), all with only 4 dungeons (AGAIN) that are actually just divine beasts again but without the animal shapes. MM embarrasses TotK so much its unreal.
