One thing BOTW definitely has over TOTK is that you can activate the Sage abilities with normal button commands. The Daruk shield ability was the weakest one in BOTW because you couldn't Z-target and shield block anything without wasting it, but I still prefer it that way as opposed to how Sidon's works in TOTK where you have to run up to his ghost to activate it.
@Suprapika9 ай бұрын
Yeah, seems like one of the bigger issues I've seen is the downgrade in special ability activation methods. Like Nerrel's video points out that the new system malfunctions so much that it's actually funny to watch.

@@HyperChargeto be fair, and I’m not even saying you’re wrong because I understand how you wished it work, but you could always turn the sage abilities off if you needed to. That way Daryl’s ability would t activate

Surprised you didn't mention the Korok forest, the gloom hands, or the guardians. BTW I discovered the fifth sage and sequence broke the same exact way!! 😅 I also found and attempted the final boss before the first temple.

For me personally, the game felt very shallow. For example, most of the (side) quests didn’t have very worthwhile rewards. Like getting a silver rupee and maybe some random ass fruit after taking on a quest feels so pointless…because not only am I not really learning anything new (lore wise or ability wise), but the prizes end up being cosmetics that ultimately render going on said endeavors pointless. Everything has missed potential: the Depths, while having very good ideas on paper, feel a bit boring exploring because what am I exploring these for? Just to mine zonite and get occasional costume pieces? Quests down here don’t really give me anything worthwhile aside from what, rusted but powerful claymores? The novelty on most gimmicks and areas unfortunately gets old after playing for a while. Despite this though, I can’t deny that it was still fun but it did leave me wishing for more the deeper I got into the game

As someone who did everything Tears all minibosses, koroks, paragliders etc I have very mixed feelings on the game, the game has some of the best gameplay in the series but held down by being in BOTW's world again since BOTW's biggest strength was the exploration and how new everything was and as someone who did everything in the game they did try their hardest to make the map as different as possible with all the new caves treasure hunting side quests underground etc but the general locations were mostly the same, like in BOTW I ran into Zora's first by chance but here I knew where every town was because of the last game. I feel like I wouldn't be so mixed if this game came out a few years earlier and was just asset sequel but Covid and polish probably pushed it back, normally I wouldn't complain about this but the next big 3D Zelda probably won't be for another 5ish years and it'll feel like we've been stuck in BOTW era solely for like a decade before we get something brand new, we didn't even have a brand new 2D Zelda inbetween to break the mold
@HyperCharge9 ай бұрын
I'm a bit mixed on it, because I definitely would have enjoyed TOTK more if I haven't already played the hell out of BOTW. Like, you can objectively look at TOTK and say it's better and I'm sure there will be some Zelda fans in the future who will have played it first who will love it more, but I do think originality does go a long way. Playing through this game sort of felt like playing through A Link Between Worlds, where you still get this polished, new experience, but you also already know what you are getting yourself into.
@TwilightYonder7209 ай бұрын
@@HyperCharge I mean I still loved the game probably still my second fav of 2023 I did go out of my way to do everything in it but yeah while this game did do a lot of new things (saw someone make a Godzilla somehow) it did just lack some newest even with stuff like the breaking weapons (didn't mind it in BOTW but whole second game with it is enough) still being exactly the same despite everyone complaining about it. Next game should be much more exciting they can actually design a world around the ideas they have instead of just adding them to this one

Regarding the temples, yea, i agree. Hell i'd say they were less fun than divine beasts. Every dungeon in TOTK being "use champion power to active 5 things to unlock boss" is just eh, feels more like a recycled gimmick more than anything. The only improvement they have over divine beasts is each temple being uniquely themed, but their shapes and layouts are worse so bleh.
@elliotCloud-f6d9 ай бұрын
Amazing video been a fan of your style of content for years. I tend to think the Breath Of The Wild just had that impact ultimately the whole did it first thing. But Tears Of The Kingdom definitely refined and improved. Personally I just wished the first E3 trailer didn't give the impression it did since the final game felt way different tone wise. But then again that could just be the fan base and theory people over hyping everyone. Love your content and enjoyed this vid, all the best.
@HyperCharge9 ай бұрын
BOTW gained a lot from being first in many aspects and that first trailer that revealed the voice acting and overall story was incredible. I also think some Zelda fans desperately wanted TOTK to be the next "Majora's Mask" to BOTW, so when it was revealed it would be reusing of the world map and same style of gameplay without the "darker tone" of Majora's Mask, it kind of killed off that enthusiasm for some people.

This game is just Breath of the Wild. Except it is so much better and has so much more content that makes impossible for me to come back and play the first game, even though I have done it for the past six years or so. Even the temples are better. I know it seems the same terminal activation shit, but TotK mechanics alone makes it waaay more enjoyable. My biggest complain is: Why didn’t they put some sort of water Gohma in the Water Temple and reserved the goofy boss to the Fire Temple? I mean, gorons already looks goofy (specially Yunobo) and a mud spider would look way cooler than a four-legged drugged Dwayne Johnson.

I feel validated. Great recap, thanks! I still need to go do the final Gannon battle. After how disappointing the final battle in BotW was, I had been fartin around and now haven't touched the game in 7 months. Still leftovers waitin for maybe someday to get back to.

I hate that you and every other person who critiques this game complains that the map is the same. It’s absolutely not. The topography may be the same (when referring to surface level Hyrule), but everything else is different. The world is far more full of things to do, and feels much more alive. Not to mention the additional land that exists in the depths and in the sky. It’s not the same map at all. Complain about something else.
