In 2020, after the passing of one of the worlds' best drummers, Neil Peart, Cathy Rankin and John Bronson of the band Wicked Kiss, performed their own acoustic version of the RUSH song "Tears" in honor of Cathy's greatest musical influence and favorite band. This rare ballad by RUSH, was one of the few written by lead singer/bassist, Geddy Lee, rather than main lyricist, Neil.
Its not often that female musicians choose to cover RUSH, but the emotional lyrics and melody are personally meaningful to Cathy and all RUSH fans more than ever since the band officially retired and then lost their irreplaceable member. Cathy, who had never played bass before, learned some of the parts just prior to the performance in order to give the song a more authentic vibe, and it was recorded in one live take. No effects or editing were done because John and Cathy wanted to leave in all the real, raw sound, including the flaws. This was a purposeful choice as they felt it represented the true, raw and vulnerable emotions and flaws we all embody in life, thus reflecting the meaning of the song more authentically.
Thanks for watching and we hope this song moves you as it has us...
"Tears" Lyrics - RUSH (Geddy Lee, Neil Peart, Alex Lifeson)
All of the Seasons
And all of the days
All of the reasons
Why I've felt this way
So long
So long
Then lost in that feeling
I looked in your eyes
I noticed emotion
And that you had cried
For me
I can see
What would touch me deeper
Tears that fall from eyes
That only cry?
Would it touch you deeper
Than tears that fall from eyes
That know why?
A lifetime of questions
Tears on your cheeks
I tasted the answers
And my body was weak
For you
The truth
What would touch me deeper
Tears that fall from eyes that only cry?
Would it touch you deeper
Than tears that fall from eyes
That know why?
