Wanted to buy the Tec cam but the company ignored my order, and endless emails. So I ended up buying the Kent cam and I love the performance. I was thinking about selling the bike because of constant stalling at idle and low power. With the Kent cam, the bike is a blast to ride and I have zero desire to sell the bike. I also discovered that the original cam's de-compressor spring was doing nothing at 18,000km. Replacing the cam and eliminating the de-compressor stopped the constant stalling. I fully agree that replacing the cam with either the Kent or Tec is the best mod you can do on the 411. It brings the bike to life. I also replaced the valves with Hitchcock's performance valves. The original exhaust valve stem was damaged and concave from being hammered by the tappet. I believe it was from the massive recommended valve stem clearance. I dropped mine back to 0.18 which is what is called for on the Suzuki DR 650. I am still getting a healthy light ticking from the tappet but have eliminated the hammering effect from a too wide of a clearance.

Agree 100%. I’ve had a Tec cam for 10,000 kms now and the power is so much better than stock. I absolutely love it.

It's a huge difference in power. The cam shaft makes it a totally different bike. I also have a tuner, free flow system, as well as valve change. It's no 650 interceptor but it is totally worth the upgrade.

Using Tec camshaft on mine and my friend's Himalayan. Could feel the difference in power when on offroads

Thanks for your videos Ben! This matches up with my experience with the TEC cam. Some valve noise but otherwise running great. I used 0.23 exh from your suggestion in another video and also found the valve noise has settled a bit since the cam has run in over ~1000 miles. Checked a couple times and the clearance has not moved.

Ben i have a question. I've seen where some of the 411s timing marks are not correct. To the point that it has caused problems with adjusting the valves. So if we are using the timing marks to put the engine at TDC to install our new camshaft, could some folks be getting the cam timing off and this is why they don't see any improvement in power? Just curious sir. BTW thank you for your hard work you put into your channel. You have saved me money and kept me rolling along on my Himalayan.

There is a high possibility of that in retard . Anything off in advance should not affect the performance

Adjustable cam sprocket, or else it is a gamble if this works. This cam (or in our test our HT-b cam which is similar) in combination with a 477cc BB kit gets in under 7 seconds to 100kmh on a BS3 carby Himalayan (with bigger jets).
@ONTWOWHEELSBEN2 ай бұрын
Why do you say it is a gamble with the stock cam sprocket ?
@gkossatzgmxde2 ай бұрын
@@ONTWOWHEELSBEN Because you simply can not fix the position adequately without it. the "look into the hole" is a very primitive estimate only, thats why the new j-engine has an adjustable sprocket.

2 seconds on 0 to 100 is a massive difference. Our Subaru Outback does 0 to 100 in about 10 and some change. I would LOVE it it could do that in 8 (though the chasis would likely not play along). If I manage to get the Scram (I am a married man, so it is 'a process') - a cam update will most likely be something I will go for once I will collect some more experience. Thank you for your informative, honest, down to earth videos. Much appreciated.

I see you have a good pipe, did you open the intake up, filter etc ? Glad you're getting the gains you hoped for. Is it still tractable ?
