I remember them buses well. The seats used to shake like hell. Good video.

The distinctive 'whine' that Des mentions on the DF type Atlanteans I believe comes from the Plessey hydraulic pump which drives the radiator fan, the DAF engined Atlanteans had modified fan systems, as they did not have a shaft drive, Leyland O.600/O.680 engined ones did have a shaft drive (running across behind the engine). Sometimes the hydraulic units became stuck on (for whatever reason) which meant the fan made the whine all the time and in theory would never reach proper temperature. Mark

Does anyone remember if the DF class buses which retained Leyland Pneumocyclic gearboxes sounded much different to standard O.680 powered Atlanteans? I've seen DAF re-engined Leopards and to me they didn't sound different to the standard O.680 powered Leopard. I have also seen DAF repowered National MK1s and they sounded much like a O.680 powered National 2. From what I gather, the DAF 1160 engine is based on the Leyland O.680.

Where exactly is the 46a there? These days it only travels through densely built up areas.

South Yorkshire PTE had Atlanteans with Voith gearboxes, 323 & 1681-1836.

David Jones Yep, as seen on several videos from DaveSpencer32, those Voith-Diwa-Atlanteans sounds interesting, like the mixture of Metropolitan + Metrobus + B10M 😛
