Great video on the 5717, I bought Sadao Ryugo-sans book as a present to myself, and thoroughly enjoyed it, all the best

I enjoyed the book as well. It was a good effort for a first book I think.

Nice to see the workings on this model. I have the dark grey dialed version of this watch and love it. Do you intend to retro fit jewels top and bottom on the barrel making it a 23 Jewel movement as it should have originally been from new?
@hal0eight4 жыл бұрын
As there's so few of these around it wouldn't be cost effective to get jewels made for it. There was nothing off the shelf that was suitable. The best way to go would be to machine up a bush. The arbors were OK in this one so I didn't have to go down that avenue.

Dear Adrian, I hope you’re well. Thanks for the interesting and informative video, as always. Is this a customer watch, or your own? Is it better to keep the chrono running all the time on these as with the 613x movements, or better for it not to be running all the time? What do you think of Seiko’s modern re-interpretations of the 5717 that they’re just releasing now, the SRQ031 8R actual chrono, and the 6R35 ones which have the looks but not the chrono functionality? Is it worth jewelling the upper and lower barrel arbor ports on the 571x movements? I believe the cal. 3180 and cal. 430/5722 have some mixtures of the barrel arbor ports and the barrel itself jewelled. How much do these movements share with the basic Crown cal. 560 and Crown Self-dater cal. 479 movements? Would it be possible to put parts from a 5740B or 5722B, or a 5740C into a 571x and make a 19,800 vph or a 36,000 vph version? 😂 Have you seen any Daini-manufactured versions of the 5717 or 5719? I’ve seen 3 Daini 5717s, but no Daini 5719s, but I haven’t had a very thorough search. Apparently they were produced right at the end of the 5717 production run, in 1966. FYI, because I know you were interested in this for the Daini 5740C - the Daini 5717 is marked “unadjusted”. Thank you very much.

It's generally accepted that keeping the chrono running is better but only for one simple reason - it relaxes the clutch spring. That said, if the movement is clean, lubricated and the pusher gaskets are in good condition, using the chrono occasionally shouldn't be an issue. Most failures I've seen were due to incorrect adjustment and/or bad pusher seals. Someone has hit a pusher with a hammer or something and the torque has either broken off the 4th wheel or cracked the clutch spring. Most other failures are actually in the asweep hand, not the center wheel. - This is relevant to the 6138/9 On the 57, they use a Swiss style runner wheel, so it would be better to disable the chrono as it reduces the amount of parts turning. On the jewelling, it would be good, but not good from a business perspective to get them manufactured. It would take me years/decades to recover the investment as there's just so few around. Comparing to the other movements, I'm really not sure as I haven't handled the other movements. These are so thin on the ground I see like one a year.A side by side comparison video is unlikely to happen. Not sure on the Daini thing, refer above. I just don't see enough of them to form an opinion. Someone on the forums would know for sure though and have some spreadsheets.

Thanks for the content! How difficult is it to take a three button chronograph and turn it into a single button chronograph? Any help appreciated!
@hal0eight4 жыл бұрын
That's the most bizarre thing I've ever heard. Not sure why you'd want to do that?
@ip_freely4 жыл бұрын
@@hal0eight Bizarre? Obviously for anesthetics-some folks like the nostalgic monopusher look.
@hal0eight4 жыл бұрын
@@ip_freely You could make a case with just the one pusher but then half the functions won't work. You'd need to pressure SII to make a monopusher movement I'd say.

can you please tell me how to get dial of this watch ? please
@hal0eight4 жыл бұрын
You probbably need to buy a complete watch unfortunately. The dials have been out of production probably since 1968.

@hal0eight4 жыл бұрын
You'll need to find a wrecked watch I think to get the escape wheel.
