There was never any issue with strength , handle play or smoothness with the previous aero technium , the only real difference from the old one to this new one is the longer spool stroke that's it . There is no excuse for reels in this price range to not have a titanium spool lip . Shimano has offered titanium spool lips on reels costing far less .

Hi I have recently bought the Aero Technium MgS 14000 XTD for sea fishing but I can't find any real information about line capacities using the spools as they are or with the spool reducers, any help / advice would be much appreciated.

Very well done review, but sadly you miss the bit out on how badly they corrode after a couple of years. Magnesium and reels shouldnt be put together

What can we expect more from Shimano? Probably next year they will release a chassis as holder for these cranes, which will replace the rod. That's how much Shimano insists on these Big Pit 14000, 12000, 10000 range, until the spool will be measured in inches, like car rims. It is fished in the oceans and on many other waters for extremely large fish, with spinning reels of 4000 and 5000, without the need for these disgusting cranes. The biggest catfish, over 50, 60, 70 kg are fished with reels of 4000 and 5000, and these fish are much stronger and more aggressive in the drill than carp, plus their weight is 2 times even 3 times greater and it can be brought ashore without any problem. Why for a Carp that weighs no more than 30 kg and that is very rarely found and not everywhere, we would need such cranes, immensely large, quite heavy and very uncomfortable, when these characteristics of these reels can be introduced in the Medium reels of 5500, more compact, lighter and more comfortable and with a much better balance in the assembly rod + reel. The amount of fishing line is not so important once even an extremely cast does not exceed the load capacity of the a Medium reel like 5500 of 300m - 0,35. What fisherman can cast more than 300m, no matter what kind of fisherman he is, to we be honest. But regarding technologies, features and performance, they are excellent. If these features were also implemented in the Medium 5500 reels, especially with the Baitrunner, then you would really have a choice. But as Shimano does not focus on the middle range at all, other manufacturers such as Daiwa and the others take advantage of this opportunity and still remain the top favorites of fishermen.

You still don't realize that nobody is interested in these fishing machines, because the fishermen are looking for reels, not machines. In a little while you will launch on the market a bicycle casiss only with the rear rim without rubber to pedal to wrap the line. You have already taken the reel division to the extreme negative with this Big Pit range. They are extremely large and disgusting, and the 14,000 spool capacity is pointless. You gave up on Baitrunner, one of the best features in this segment, and now we are struggling to set the front brake after every launch, and now we have to break our hands with these trollers. Goodbye Shimano and Welcome Daiwa
