I personally use the Sony wireless lav system because I use sony cameras. I also use the sony ecm-b1m shotgun mic because it leverages the multi-channel hot shoe. but Rode makes solid mics as well.

I feel like people use those mics because they don't want to deal with wires. Lavs are annoying since they have a wire you have to unravel and ravel again when you're done with them. And even though it's under your clothes, I find it still catches something once in a while. I personally don't even think it's that ugly having the transmitter hanging off of your shirt. The only thing I don't like about them is it has branding on it.

I think it depends on the type of video. I don't mind the utilitarian look and adding a lav mic just adds another level of hassle vs. just making the video. I agree though it's usually just slapped on wherever and not given a second thought. What I dislike even more is when broadcast journalists are using AirPods or just plain old wired EarPods, it makes me think they're just listening to music or a podcast instead of working 😆

hahaha that's another nuisance one. i think the era of peak covid when everyone was just doing what they could from home led to it sadly

I agree with you. Anytime I see a video and someone has one of these just clipped to their shirt, I move on to the next video. I can't take someone seriously when that can't put more effort into making their content. That and when someone has wired earbuds and they are holding the mic right to their mouth.

110%. It's not that expensive to get some sort of set up to make things look better on camera.

Whilst I agree with you, what you actually see on a lot of channels is actually the opposite. Almost like a “flex” 😂
