That is a vintage 1/8 scale Rex Sprint Car, similar to a Moody Sprint Car.

What's the trick to getting a battery in and out of the car?

Unbolting the cage from the chassis with an electric screwdriver, seems to be the best way right now. Just be careful not to over tighten the screws.
