Thank you Doug. I'm a flight instructor and apprentice aircraft mechanic. This is the best intro I've seen on KZbin. Its a great instructional video that most KZbinrs are not able to do. I just spent $1000 on different fittings building two fuel pumps and two fuel filter , 100 + 10 micron for a Subaru powered aircraft. It uses NPT pipe thread, ORB and AN connectors. The Fuel Pumps and Fuel Filters FAIL to state what their root connection is, they all throw in adapters when we need to design our systems from the ground up, not from their adapters. In the hangar, I have never seen a single person use other than a steel wrenches used carefully. Its very obvious that steel on AN or ORB aluminum fittings can damage them. I'm ordering some Carbon Fiber wrenches. This vido spells it out but I had to replay it and screen shot save a few parts. Key pics that need some time are, the O-Ring, the seating and perhpas recomended Torque used with these fittings, and do you really need Carbon Fiber wrenches.

Good Stuff! Clear and Concise. I found you because I'm looking to repair a Steel Braided Line (probably PTFE) to factory a Ford Spring Lock Connector and double o-ring and transitions to an NPT fitting on a '95 P71 Oil Cooler.

That’s wonderful information I didn’t know. Especially since I just ordered a new fuel system through you guys! Thank you Need an in-depth video on the boost/vacuum distribution block.

An idea for Tech Tuesday would be brake lines. Single flare, double flare, using AN fittings, Brass fittings, bending etc.

At my hydraulic shop we call face seal fittings the ones that the oring are on the tip of the male fittings. That crush washer one you show is pretty much orb with a washer instead of oring

How about a tech tip video for installing PTFE -20 AN hose ends. Those things are tough getting the fitting inside the hose liner with the olive in place. I have wrestled for hours on just one hose end before.

My dad showed me fuel rated pipe thread tape the other day. Its yellow and a little thicker than the regular white Teflon stuff. I never knew it existed, but i wish i had. It works a lot better than Teflon tape and solved some fuel leak problems i was having.

I wish I would have found this video before I bought a fuel pressure regulator. Now I know why the one I bought was so much cheaper than the other ones.

Very informative, but one thing that wasn't mentioned was lubricating the threads when assembling the hose to the stem and nut/collar.

Great video Doug! For fuel systems/dry sump oil systems, there are two different styles of ORB. Standard straight cut o ring (has a female flare) and straight cut o ring boss that has a radius machined in. Is there any real performance/flow difference between the two and what is your recommendation in these instances?

Good info. I thought I heard not to use teflon tape on NPT fuel fittings but I wasn't sure; something about the threads cut tiny pieces of the tape off and they go into your line, clogging an injector. If I use a paste, however, wouldn't that cause a similar problem?

Npt does not need tape or dope if you tighten it all the way. That is literally the point of a tapered thread. However dope will lubricate the threads to help you get it tight enough, not really necessary for 1.25 and smaller pipe and fittings but 2.5 inch black steel can be difficult to tighten

Use some loctite thread paste 567. It will still be removable and is good in soft metals as it prevents galling. When you use it make sure the first couple of threads are clean and don't have any on them to prevent it from getting into the circuit.

Orb is a chamfered bore not a counter bore. it looks like a counterbore because it is only 12 or 15 deg from parallel. It also has another chamfer attached to the first that is 45 deg. Look up orb or sae port tool geometry
