Some Garage door openers require an extra step to complete the sync process. The process I used in the video worked for all of the Garage doors I've programmed to so far. If I recall correctly if your Garage Door Opener requires extra steps I believe the light on the homelink unit in the truck will blink rapidly for 2-3 seconds seconds and then turns to a steady on light. If that's the case you need to do the next few steps. Go to the garage door opener receiver / Garage door opener itself and locate the learn or smart button. press and release the smart button. After you press this button, you now have 30 seconds to return to the vehicle. Once back in the vehicle, press and hold the button on the Homelink for 2 seconds. Then, release. If the garage door does not move, repeat steps these extra steps 2-3 times. If that doesn't work, there maybe a deeper issue with your truck/opener.

My homelink in my 06 silverado just fast flashes. From the second I hold down the two outside buttons, it just fast flashes, no matter how long I hold them down. I can't get any solid lights or slow flashes like you did in this video. Defective?
@DriverJsGarage3 жыл бұрын
The instructions should be compatible with your truck as it should work for silverado/sierra and yukon/tahoe from 2000-2006. However some Garage door openers require the HomeLink/in truck module to be sync'd with the learn function on the garage door opener in the garage as well, and some garage door openers aren't compatible at all with HomeLink. HomeLink used to have a list published for this, but I unfortunately can't find it or an archived version of it. It could be your in truck module is bad, or it could be that your home garage door opener system isn't compatible. At the bottom of this reply I have the current homelink phone #, so if the full instructions here don't work it might be worth just giving them a call to see if they know if your remote is not a compatible model. Here are the full instructions that HomeLink used to publish (I saved these but not the list of compatible openers) Press and hold the two outside buttons at the same time, releasing only when the Universal Home Remote indicator light begins to flash. You’ll need to press these for a maximum of 20 seconds. Hold your Universal Home transmitter about 1-3 inches away from the Universal Home Remote buttons while keeping the indicator light in view. At the same time, press and hold the button to be programmed and the handheld transmitter button. Do not release either button until the indicator light on the Universal Home Remote flashes slowly at first and then rapidly after a successful program. Press and hold the newly-trained Universal Home Remote button and observe the indicator light. If the indicator light stays on continuously, the programming is complete. If the Universal Home Remote indicator light blinks rapidly for two seconds and then turns to a constant light, then continue with the following steps: Go to the garage door opener receiver motor head unit and locate the learn or smart button. Firmly press the button and release the smart button. After you press this button, you now have 30 seconds to return to the vehicle. Once back in the vehicle, firmly press and hold the button on the Universal Home Remote that you selected previously for 2 seconds. Then, release. If the garage door does not move, repeat steps 4 and 5 a second and third time. For questions or more help programming the Universal Home Remote System, call 1-800-355-3515 (I tried the number before posting this and it does still direct to HomeLink) I however do not know if they support our older trucks or if there is any cost associated with using their support so call at your own risk.

You're correct I did not cover that step, as the door that I was programming for DID NOT require it. Not all Garage door openers require that step.

Can you do a video of adding a remote to the home link without Erasing what’s already programmed? In other words I have the middle button program to my garage door but I need to add a program for a different door to another button.
@DriverJsGarage3 жыл бұрын
I checked the instructions sheet I got from a friend at the GM dealer and it didn't say. If I have time to test it out myself I can mess around and see, but I don't have much free time coming up. So it could be a while. It also might be worth calling homelink (their number is still active). 1-800-355-3515 HomeLink (no idea on cost or hours of support, but when I tried the number it still goes to a HomeLink IVR system.

There are some things it could be, (incompatible opener, poor signal, bad home link electronics in the truck...) I would check www.tahoeyukonforum.com/ and start by searching. I know I've seen a few posts of homelink issues there. IF you don't find an answer in one of those threads definitely post up about your specific door opener, and what the lights on the truck are doing as you try and program.

When you use the remote how do you keep it from working the door while you are programming the car
@DriverJsGarage3 жыл бұрын
I don't see a real issue with the door moving if I'm programming my remote, but there are a few solutions, you can keep your distance from the door, you could unplug the opener inside your garage, but I just let it open.

There are additional steps you need to do for some styles of garage door openers that require you to push a program button on the garage door opener itself, not just the remote.

Hey I have a 2004 tahoe I reset the homelink but after I try to link it with the remote one the light on the car never flashes fast any ideas
@DriverJsGarage4 жыл бұрын
I know not all garage door openers are compatible with homelink, so it could be that, or if you aren't holding it close enough it might be not getting a good enough signal to learn. But if you get a very short rapid blink it may need extra steps and you may have to use the learn button on your garage door opener itself. Usually this involves pressing the learn button on the garage door opener (inside the garage, not the remote) After that you have about 30 seconds to then press and hold the button in the truck you were trying to program (for just a few seconds). You might need to do this step a few times. I've never had an issue with it learning it right away, but I also haven't had an opener that requires pressing the learn button on the motor/garage opener itself, just the remote as I showed in the video.

Seeing as you didn't give me any more to go on (what step you get to, or what the light is doing I can't say. I would suggest reading the added steps I included in the Pinned comment. as some garage door openers require extra steps. (none of the doors I had access to required the extra steps)

I’m sorry@@DriverJsGarage - I have more info. I have a 2002 gmc Yukon and a chamberlain 1 HP garage door opener. I did the double button reset in the Yukon first, then pressed the working garage door button at the same time as the button I wanted to program in the Yukon. I held both buttons until the on in the Yukon started flashing fast (look like 15-20 seconds. When that didn’t work I did the learn option. Went to the main button pad, selected program, remote, then went to the Yukon and firmly pressed the homelink button for one second. Did that 3 times with no light changes. Did the entire process probably 6 times. Then I moved on the learn button on the opener itself, pressed it, went to the Yukon, pressed the homelink button for 1 second with no flash of light.
@DriverJsGarage10 ай бұрын
Just to make sure, when it started rapid flashing after the initial steps I run through in the video did you release the button and it kept flashing after released? If you have to use the learn button on the garage door opener itself, I recommend a second set of hands, as sometimes the amount of time the learn is active for isn't enough to run to the door hit the learn button and complete the steps. Does the button you programmed rapid flash after just a single press? If it's still rapid flashing it sounds to me like the truck's remote hasn't fully learned the rolling code exchange, and may need you to repeat the steps a few times to get the truck to understand the rolling code used by the door. I checked chamberlain's support page, as HomeLink no longer lists the GMT800 on their support pages (that I could find anyway) Here is a link to Chamberlain's page I thought would be useful to help you troubleshoot more: support.chamberlaingroup.com/s/article/Functions-of-the-Learn-Program-button-on-a-garage-door-opener I found another page in Chamberlain's support that gives a number for HomeLink support too... whether the number works or if they'll support the HomeLink from a GMT800 truck (seeing as it's not on their support page) is questionable, but it's worth a try. They list the number here: support.chamberlaingroup.com/s/article/How-to-Program-HomeLink-to-My-Chamberlain-or-LiftMaster-Garage-Door-Opener Hopefully this helps, you get it figured out. If you get help from Homelink support let me know I'm genuinely curious if they still support units as old as the one's in the GMT800. Let me know how it all goes.

How do you program without a remote
@willywall494 жыл бұрын
BobLeeSwagger9 on the door motor, there should be a learn button.. press it once then immediately return to the vehicle and hold the button till it blinks slowly
@DriverJsGarage4 жыл бұрын
As I've never had a situation where a remote wasn't available, I never ran into this, but through a couple quick searches I did find some folks saying their newer garage door opener system had a discovery mode for new openers, that would emit the signal short range and allow you to program your remote by entering discovery mode then following the learning steps on your homelink controls. I don't believe if it's an older garage door opener without a learning feature (IE set by dip switches) that it would be possible.

That didn't work on a 2002 avalanche
@DriverJsGarage3 жыл бұрын
I haven't ever worked on an Avalanche, but I'm pretty certain that the components used across most of the truck and full size SUVs were the same so the same steps SHOULD work. Without seeing exactly what the LED in your truck is doing it's hard to diagnose as there are some garage door opener systems that require additional steps (using the learn button) the door I used for this video did not require using the learn button on the garage door opener itself. I would suggest calling your local dealer's parts department or looking up your specific garage door opener that is in your garage for their programming instructions. IF that references using the learn button on the garage door opener in your garage, you'll need to follow those steps. , I've had good luck getting the instructions for specific vehicles from them. Some dealers even have it on their website such as this one from sunrise chev... www.sunrisechevrolet.com/blog/how-to-program-chevy-garage-door-opener/
