NEVER plug anything into your OBD2 port except diagnostic/programming tools. They are not designed to power anything. On Board Diagnostic, not on board power. Those 5V and 12V lines lead to your vehicles computer. That computer has tight mV and mA tolerances. You can do serious damage to your vehicle. These insurance and aftermarket companies are not knowledgeable in sensitive electronics, and "close enough" is good for them. These items can actually void any kind of manufacturing warranty. Vehicle electronics are upwards of 2000 dollars these days.

Would you have to get a concealed carry permit I'm curious about that for the taillight gunsafe? Not that If you get pulled over an officer is gonna think to try pulling out your brake light.

John, it's dependent on your state. Think about the pros and cons of having a weapon that you cannot reach. They have indoor concealment of a weapon as well.

@@goingagainstthegrain well I know there's also the magnets that hold hanguns like pistols under your dashboard as well. Depends on the vehicle your driving materials. I don't know I was just really curious and interested to know because gun laws can be very strict and particular per everyone's location.

**concealed carry permits are for a person. **Unfortunately the laws are different in states and cities regarding vehicle concealment of firearms.

Mostly no. You don't if the weapon is cased, unloaded, and not accessible to the driver. However, states that require a licence to even own a gun still might try to screw you over.

Rifles like that will soon be illegal to own in Canada. The firearms haters even wanted hunting rifles banned. If they get their way even self loading sling shots and water pistols will be banned. Some of those fools are against hunting

So, I guess, that the Tesla Cyber Truck roof top camper was the one that should have been available with that thing. But, for $24K +tax, I suppose not too many people would have bought it. Then again, if you can afford the truck, money is the least of your problems.

My thoughts on the gun in the taillights would be getting in a wreck and not only out all that money on the gadget but your gun would be useless at that point.

For hidden transport it's great. The issue with keeping a gun inside a vehicle is condensation - when a cold truck is parked in a warm humid place and that air gets to the cold gun, it's going to sweat like a glass of iced tea in August. That was too common in the day of gun racks in the window - guns rusted quickly if left there. A marine grade stainless, not so much, but the lockworks etc aren't always, etc. Then you get into the self defense aspect, where you need something RIGHT NOW so that's where the gun should be - on you. I can see the taillight rack mod being used on hunting properties where a lot of gear goes in the bed - base camp supplies, etc taking up space and you'd rather not have the firearm exposed back their. The racks are essentially sealed from all the mud the back tires kick up. Which brings up - can you still open it with 50 miles of frozen mud on it? Some things are show car, some are practical. Me, I'm trying to think how to rig the rear bumper as a pullout carrying the spare, instead of the crank down. With two side compartments there would be a lot of tool space, rigging for a real winch, etc., and all secure and cleanly locked inside the drawers with NO loss of bed space.
