@@mscir yeah, was thinking about deploying units to homeless camps to a central repeater. The unit itself would have virtually zero street value other and the repeater would be up in a tree or on a bridge somewhere with main battery. If it was possible to have long battery life you could manage a lot of camps at once and ensure safety when those persons don't have access to phones and are posted up in the woods somewhere. Thought about solar loRa mesh but those would have street value.

My goodness it's fun to see kids do this. I've done this (probably exact same schematic when I see the parts) back in 1987. Really cool seeing this again. I built this kind of thing back in college in 2004 as a final project. My team was the first ones to use wireless successfully in a final project, our idea was to use it to locate your keys when you lost them. Have a transmitter in a central location and a small, low power FM radio on your keychain. Wish I had this video back then, most of our time was spent researching and circuit building then starting over when the circuit didn't work right. Well done.

You can change the tuning range of the transmitter by reducing or increasing the number of turns in the coil. To raise the tuning range above 108, simply use fewer turns and you can use audio of TV channel 7-12 on an analog TV set or a "police scanner" as a receiver, or increase the number of turns for TV channel 2-6.

The range is good enough for the house. These days you can buy digitally tuned, stable frequency with LCD frequency display, FM stereo transmitters for under US$5 and a simple modification can increase their power into illegal range.

I have some projects planned for the new year and I believe I may just incorporate this one into one or two of those projects. Back to the drawing board. And yes, I've seen this before in magazines during the 70s and 80s. One of my teachers built a baby monitor using a transmitter during the 60s and he built a few more for his wife's friends when they were impressed with it. Unfortunately, the frequency was a tad off and the local police station was getting signals on their frequency. He had to round up all the units and dismantle them or he would have faced charges. I can still hear him chuckling with an amused look on his face while he told us about this.

Can we just replace the mic with mono phone plug?
@dcfuksurmom6 жыл бұрын
yes, its the same type of signal, but a headphone output is usually amplified.

Can I change the mic for a 3.5mm stereo male cable? I was hoping to listen to my PC music through the house without carrying it with me! xD
@kutlu139 жыл бұрын
Sure. But be careful with polarity. This crap can easily burn itself and your sound card.

Kutluhan Mutlu Guess a mono plug is the only way of it. In this case I should match it with the polarity of the circuit?

Kutluhan Mutlu And thanks for the infos! :D

Yes, using mono input is the best choice. If you want to use stereo you can combo 2 wires together to the + side

Like connecting the two channels in parallel, at the same point?

Can i use aux input instead of a mic? Or does someone else have a great tutorial on that?
@dcfuksurmom6 жыл бұрын
it would be possible, you would have to convert the stereo output (left/right) from a headphone jack to mono (single line), connect the positive of the now single output to the positive of the microphone connection, and the outputs negative to the negative of the microphone connection. just dont turn up the device that its connected to up very loud, as it can and likely will cause distortion, if it is to quiet turn up the volume on the radio itself

I made a fox hole radio transmitter over fm waves and i only knew how to build it cause a book in my elemetsry schools library explained how toae a fox hole rasio transmitter like they used in ww1,ww2 and Vietnam. I did it kne sat morning getting electronics from my schools store thst sells electronics and other stuff for kids to buy for thier projects at a discounted price compresd to box stores and i was 11 and my dad was impressed cause he was in the airforce and havnt seen snyone make a fox hole radio in a long time and he said he couldn't believe that his 11-year-old son would be the last person he saw make an FM radio transmitter like a foxhole one at 11 years old all by myself too My daughters looked terrible because I soldered the wires instead of just crimping so it'll be more permanent but it worked

This is very impressive, but I should add that depending on where you live, there are applicable laws concerning using the broadcast FM band. In the U.S., there's a narrow slice at the beginning of the broadcast FM band (around 88Mhz) where you can broadcast with a small, low-power transmitter (like the kind they sell to pipe audio from your phone to your car radio). Also be aware of the power output limits in the regulations. A friendly neighborhood amateur radio licensee might have the equipment to test this radio and tell you how much juice it generates. I'm sure it's not much, but it might be several times what's legally permitted (again, depending on where you live). Please be nice to the radio spectrum -- it's something that everyone uses ever day, and if it gets abused, it will become harder and harder to use freely. Look at drone laws in Canada if you need a good analogy. Good work, kiddo! :)

One thing to note is that the diagram in the download file that shows where the components go on the custom PCB is missing the 4pf capacitor.

Nice project. Now we have to build receiver for it. Also adding push button to transmitter would make it closer to Walkie Talkie :) I just wander if there are any regulations that would make using this kind of pirate radio illegal on FM frequencies?

While this now an ancient reply, new electronics hobbyists should start out at square one with not using a screwdriver for the tuning of circuitry. There are a number of technical as well as safety reasons for this, and while using a screwdriver to adjust the tuning of this transmitter may happen to work with this circuit, as you may advance to more critical projects the need for a proper tuning tool will become increasingly important. While not very expensive, such a tool or set of these tools need to be in your kit for present and future work.

How can the audio be so clear???? . i made myself and it took ton of work just to get frequency in the range, the audio was pathetic, a lot of noise and interference were there. When i soldered the circuit, the frequency was lost! Now i think most of the transmitter videos are fake

@@tmxl7847 I had everything previously, but I'm outside my country as I had immigrate forever, my dear I advise you to read about RF, in other words don't just copy schematic diagrams in order to execute a specific project, you must create your self knowledge foundation that enable you to do any RF project. Schematic diagram doesn't matter, but the main principle does matter, read about Analog and Digital RF...

Put a 36" antenna on it and it will go for a couple of miles. Built the same and used them for wireless mics for A Chorus Line many years ago. Dirt cheap wireless mics, but a pain in the ass finding all the recievers.

Add more electricity and you should be able to broad cast farther if you add a powerful dc or ac output depending what that battery produces.
