I tried A71 and A51 selfie cam yesterday at the store, in the A71 I looked grey and in the A51 I looked like my brown self so I will chose A51. The detail in A71 is better but I don't want a good 2 years of my photo memories looking like I was grey lol I miss walking around Vegas.

Still a valuable video one year later as A51 and A71 are still in demand. While I'd appreciate the better camera function of the A71, current best prices have the A71 between75% - 100% more expensive ($200 vs. $250-400.) I can't see paying that premium for the improvements, especially since most of them could be addressed in post process if worthwhile. Not that they could completely correct for lost detail that's never recorded.

It seemed to me that the A71 was generally better indoors, more natural and a little cleaner. Outdoors there were a few where the A51 seemed to throw heavy colours in. The problem is, we don't know what the colours looked like other than the images, so it's impossible to know which phone is being the more accurate. Hope that makes sense. ATB MMMD

What you have trouble describing in the first comparison is dynamic range. The A71 has better dynamic range than the A51. Seems to me like a 1.5 - 2 Stop difference. And you're correct in the assumption that it's due to the processing power. You can have vastly different results in photos with the same sensor but different processor. And your second issue with the selfi camera: a camera consists of two things, a sensor and a lens. The A71 looks to have bigger lens design that the A51. You can have the same spec for a lens, but one came be a lot bigger than the other by having more elements in it. Also I wanted to know about the Pro Mode in video. And you didn't cover video at all.

Great vid! It looks to me that in most cases the 71 is a bit better with details. I have a Samsung A8 right now and the biggest irritation for me is that it seems to overexpose everything. If I want to take a shot of a sunset with lots of subtle colours, forget it. The colours just don't show up very well no matter how much tweaking I try. How are these cameras with things like sunrise/set and moon shots?

A71 even had better audio on the video samples. Also post editing can correct tone, saturation and exposure but the added detail is the real advantage...

Guys, I am going for the A51. This is because it is not worth to sopend $150 more on A71 when you can edit your A51 photos and make them perfect. The differences between the two are minimal. A51 gives more natural colors while A71 is more saturated. If you care on the RAM, size and storage parts, then yes A71 is better. But regarding cameras, I will remain on A51.

Samsung adds a smoothness filter to the images. I tried the a51 vs a71 in a shop and the a51 seems to have some sort of beauty filter added by default

No optical image stabilisation like iphone SE has, it makes a huge difference. You will probably need to run video through software on computer or maybe an app to remove shake.

No , a51 doesnt have such watercolor effect , my cousin has a71 & i m using A51 for the past few days , a51 selfie camera( is 10 times better then a50 ) and slight better than A71 whereas the rear camera of a71 has more sharp pics or better than a51 rear camera

@@Awootoo well I m being very honest , no a51 is a complete phone in this price range as it has 128 gb storage , 6gb ram which is hella fast , a decent selfie camera , lag only in terms of processor which is Samsung's exynos 9611 but it's a decent processor too , battery last long for almost a day and btw u look cute in profile pic😝

My only issue with the A71 is that when you upload onto Instagram, Twitter, Facebook etc it looks really bad. It's been a minute since I had a Samsung after using a Huawei..but it's very jarring especially when you produce content. Is there a work around? I'd prefer a Huawei but it doesn't have Google play.

The issue with this is that your phone camera is basically too good.....it looks crappy because these sites have their own built in compressor that compresses your picture or video before posting to save space.......you can work around it abit by downloading a video compressor and compressing it yourself to IG or Twitter specs...Google for more info

I say it looks very good in sunlight. Indoors selfies sometimes look a bit fuzzy and low light doesnt really help that much but overall not depending on light it is good.

Actually the frontal cam from the a71 looks more natural and responds like a healthy sensor should, the a51's front cam sensor pushes the blacks way too much that makes the face flat and washed out and that's exactly what i hate about smartphones these days, if you're coming from a video-making background you'll understand. great effort on the videos keep it up

For me A51 is better if you consider the difference in their prices upon comparing their shots, the slight differences on the clarity and saturation of photos can be fixed using editing apps like Snapseed. Practicality wise A51's price is a win.

The a71 front facing camera appears to be much better, which people tend to dislike because it shows imperfections in complexion and harsh lines/wrinkles on skin. So, the A51 is a more likeable front facing because it hides much of that.

The difference is in the image processing pipeline. They have different image processors for the respective sensors. I guess Samsung doesn't specifically tune their image processing for the different processors.
