So happy you got this drive. I recently got this thing for the very reasons you listed. I work allot and just don't have the time to download all these rom's. I would love for someone to do a deep dive on this thing. For example how to properly and most effectively transfer these games to a RP3+ or RP2s. Also I have watched your channel and retro game core for over a year now and have been learning the retro game handheld scene very slowly but for some odd reason I still cant get my games to save. If you could do a small intro on how to do a save state very slowly that would be awesome. I just don't understand what I'm missing.
@TechDweeb8 ай бұрын
Awesome! For the saves, you mean in this drive or on your handhelds? If it's on this drive you'll need to open up the retoarch settings (l3 + r3) while the game is open, and then go to the main settings>input>hotkeys, and in there you can set whatever hotkey you want for save (I choose 'select' as the hotkey enable, and r1 as save, and l1 as load). Stop by my discord and ask for help if you need a hand :)

The value is ok, an external HDD of this type is around 200. 12tb or so of data takes a long while to put together. The actual files can be found online via torrents and file sharing websites, but will take you forever to download, especially if you do not have the space for it to begin with. I have to imagine however that the HDD itself is used, which makes their profits margin quite high on these. So unless this is not something you want to deal with yourself, grab a brand new external HDD for less than 200, and start downloading straight into it. You should be done in a month or so, lol.

I've been running emulators for years, especially on my phone since that's where I run them the most. But over the last year I've been highly considering getting a mini PC and setting up something for emulators for my bedroom TV. I honestly and highly considering his. Yes, as the commenters always say, I can do this. I enjoy setting them up. But just the fact that I can use it as a storage for games in and of itself is amazing. What I was looking at doing it going to take hours and hours just downloading games for the PS3, Xbox, and 360. I've got a good collection of PS2 games, but I was even gonna get more for that. So while I would probably still get more, this is already a huge time saver. And it's something I can set to the side so that if anything should happen to the mini PC I set up, I have the games ready to go. Not to mention, as you said, it's gonna only cost a little more than buying the parts and setting up a back up system myself. The cost of the parts alone is expensive, so might as well just spend the extra bit and have things already downloaded.

I assume that the people who made this just used commonly available "ROM" files, rather than go to the trouble of ripping all the games themselves. This leads me to two questions; 1. Do they have the more obscure PS1 games? In my experience, four of the most difficult to find are; Macross Digital Mission VF-X (Japanese) Macross VF-X 2 (Japanese) Paris Marseille Racing (French) Paris Marseille Racing II (French) 2. There are a bunch of "bad" PSP ISO dumps floating around. Some are only minor technical errors, but some are more serious. The cracking groups put out a series of fix packs for all the incorrect dumps. The Renascene website notes which dumps are considered bad, along with the CRC values for both the bad and good (patched) ISO files. Did they make sure to include the patched ISO files? For example, the USA version of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories by Start2 is bad. It has a CRC of F5B9DF28, while the fixed version is F705A610.

I build these drives from scratch, I built my own recently on a 5TB Seagate drive and I have all my dumped PS3 games and others, i have ripped PS4 discs compiled into fake package files but can't play them cause there's no emulator that can run the entire PS4 library yet cause it's in development, the PS4 section on that drive is ported games from the PS4 to PC so it's actually cracked PC games on that drive that don't require Steam or Rockstar Launcher to run,the other stuff is all dumped from consoles, you won't get in trouble for owning anything like this tho, the price your paying is for the drive itself and the amount of work they have put into the drive cause it takes hours of work piecing these together, it took over a month for mine cause I had to get artwork and stuff, and then the modules that are compiled in .ahk and then the emulator versions and configure settings, and then adjust file paths and then add the games on there, but yeah it's a very long process but i do it cause that way i can help everybody else with whatever issues they have with theirs cause i know the whole entire system of it

I have a retobat front end with a 4tb drive took me forever to build. This will save me a damn life time. Was there a light gun set up? Just wondering im sure i can make my sinden work.
@TechDweeb8 ай бұрын
Agreed. Huge time saver with these things! I'm not sure about the light gun. There is a light gun playlist, with tons of lightgun games, and I'm sure it'd be easy to get working with the Sinden, but I haven't tried yet.

Thank you tech dweeb great video! I'm going to buy this with my next check. Wondering, will these roms work if I copy them to either my Android retroid 2s or my Linux PowKiddy RGB30? Via microSD?
@TechDweeb7 ай бұрын
Hey buddy! Yeah definitely, you can easily copy the roms of this thing onto any device. I did exactly this yesterday, I have a new handheld to set up, so I can just grab the rom libraries off this to add to the new thing. Very nice to have so many games (including all the high end stuff) and not have to be constantly downloading new stuff when you want to test it on your devices.

I think a 1Tb SSD version would make the most sense for me. The mechanical 12 tb might just die after too much use
@danwill5158 ай бұрын
Yeah, 2tb SSDs arent TOO expensive, unless you want the 2.5in size (Playstation uses the 2.5s so they went up all stupid)but you're gonna want more than 1tb , i believe .
@danwill5158 ай бұрын
Like it only takes 150 GB for everything before ps1, but THEN the playst, nintendo64, Dreamcast, Saturn, everything gets storage-demanding after that

If the site would let you customize your drive by what you want specifically and not throwing into too much nonsense you know you don't want that'd be way better ...BUT

TechDweeb: Will this work on a Linux operating system like Linux Mint? Also, if I was to purchase this, would I be able to delete and add games?
@OmBotCult8 ай бұрын
I was hoping that this drive didn't have the multiples of the same games like so many of theses drives have. I like getting these drives because you get to explore new stuff that you may have never heard of so I have no interest in building my own drives even if I knew how. This drive is massively overwhelming. I think ADD kicks in and I'm lost. I would like to have more instruction for this drive I can't find out where the front end is so I can make changes. I would like to know where to go to configure controllers too.

Can you do a video on buying a rom set and you downloading it and installing it on a hard drive you already own
@__EMULATIONPROS__7 ай бұрын
Arcadepunks google it
@Sartre_Existentialist8 ай бұрын
A few of the Amazon comments indicate that the emulators are out of date, and many of the games do not run properly. Have you found this to also be the case? One comment stated there is no way to update the emulators and the buyer had to install newer emulators on his PC and then use the product as a rom drive, pointing to the roms.
@__EMULATIONPROS__7 ай бұрын
This is correct as a ex hyperspin user adding games on hyperspin is a pain and a lot of work the real devs who created this build took 2 years to create the original 128gb image these bozos at kinhank just took the image and took a old hyperpsin build and merged them together that's why your getting old as software they just dragged and dropped old stuff to new stuff
