RAM - single channel RAM (1xstick) drastically decreases the performance of this laptop so if you can get it with dual channel RAM (2x stick) go for it or add one more RAM stick if you already have Scar II with single channel RAM. In some cases it's even 30% difference in performance!

I changed out my single channel ram for dual channel ram and I notice a difference but its not huge. I also replaced the 1tb hdd with a 1tb 2.5" ssd drive.

@@packersfan036 if it comes to RAM you're not gonna notice the difference in every game. It's highly depended on certain game itself and it's settings so we can't tell exact performance increase in general. :)

@@ryker8814 maybe you will get the laptop already with dual channel RAM. In general yes, you will have more fps with dual channel RAM but even with single channel the performance will be good in Fortnite.

I think that Scar 2 is still a very good option since it has better GPU and it's usually cheaper that newer laptops that come with newer CPUs that are not very much better than i7-8750H

On idle it was usually between 40-50 degrees. You can use silent mode when not playing games

@@wallacet4789 Sometimes one fan may be slower but that's normal as the system decides how fast the fans spin according to actual needs. The problem may be thermal paste.

Always use windows mode in armoury crate and configure your Windows power plan to 5% minimum cpu and 99% maximum. If you stay on Balanced or Performance or Manual in armoury crate, the program forces 100% cpu throttle speed all the time which runs up temperature in all events. If you allow Windows to control how much your clock speed is when needed, you should see 38c or so idle temps.

@@EjinRenos yea i always use windows mode in armoury crate. I think the issue is the laptop cooling itself. It has no thermal throttling when playing games just it has a high idle temp. Im wondering is it really possible to get 38c with i7 8750H and 2070 ?

Beside design there is also unfortunate price yet. :) I suggest to wait few months until it drop or maybe catch some sale. It'm going to test it one day, because i think that it may be good as Scar 2. It comes with i7-9750H processor and that's probably the only difference if it comes to performance - not much improvement but i wonder how about cooling since even 8750H is hard to cool. However Scar 2 has a great cooling so maybe the Scar 3 will have too.

I am soon getting this laptop around this week.. unfortunately i cant find dual channel ram and a HDD with this configuration in my country.. i decided to buy an extra 1x16GB ram to make it dual channel... Is there anything i need to do on bios or even update windows before i can install the extra ram and maybe a SSHD ? Am i going to break the warranty if i open the laptop?

If it comes to warranty it may be different for each country so you better read your warranty terms. There's no any warranty sticker on any of the screws so you should be free to add RAM or Drive but I found the warranty sticker on cooling system. After installing RAM you don't have to do anything but before you better do all the Windows updates for peace of mind. If it comes to drive you have to go BIOS after installation and make it appear in the system (that's a standard operation).

Hello, sorry if it doesn't have much to do but, I saw a type of model of the Asus Rog Strix II called 'GL504GW-ES006T' and I wanted to know if it's similar to this one of the video. I was going to buy it but now I'm a little bit hesitant because the processor seems to be only 2,2 GHz. What do you think? Do every Asus rog Strix II models have turbo mode?

It's the same model GL504 (Scar 2). 2.2GHz is only a base clock, it can turbo up to 4.1GHz. Every confoguration of Scar 2 has turbo mode

Let's be honest - every 144Hz display looks practically the same. Sometimes you may see a difference in general color tone, and sometimes you may feel like some displays are a lil bit smoother like in case of Scar 2 (3ms response) compared to other 144Hz laptops. I wouldn't bother to consider these, 144Hz is just 144Hz with practically the same color coverage. But other than that thereal factor you should consider is the quality (backlight bleeding). I can say you that Scar 2 had very good quality panne, bot i can't tell you about Legion, because i didn't test it.

Hey, the G-Sync is not that important with RTX 2070. It becomes useful on the edge of 60fps with drops below. This model ran most of games at 100+fps so the gameplay was smooth.

You can just physically install RAM a d you're ready to go without doing anything more. If you install SSD or HDD you have to physically install it and then find it in BIOS to make it be shown in your system. If you have system i stalled on the drive you wanna swap, you need to get a copy of windows and re-install it on the new drive.

Thanks for your kind words! Scar 3 is already released in the USA but I think that it has just more fancy design and no really improvements in terms of performance (only slightly better GPU while i7-8750H is totally fine anyway). As for me Scar II has all I need.

Graphics cards in every laptop are mobile versions of desktop GPUs. They are about 10% weaker than desktop cards. There are also Max-Q cards that are low power consumption mobile chips (you can't find Max-Q desktop GPU). For example if you have desktop RTX 2070, then the full power mobile version will be about 10% weaker, and the Max-Q RTX 2070 will be again 10% less effective than regular full power mobile GPU. In Scar 2 you have full power RTX 2070.

Check my in-depth comparison of HP Omen 15 and Asus Scar II. :) I thi k that you'll end up better buying Scar, because it has way better cooling system, smoother display, better speakers and the RTX 2070 in Scar is full size while the one in Omen is Max-Q (about 10% weaker).

1. Depending on what's going on in game the frames may drop sometimes but no performance lose because of thermal or power limit throttling here. You will see sometimes over 90 but it applies to almost every gaming laptop. Actually scar has one of the best cooling systems out there but if you want you can undervolt the CPU. 2. When you play games the laptop is loud, because fans are working with full speed. On idle it's completly silent. 3. You have one slot for M.2 SSD (where the windows is installed). You can replace this SSD if you want. And you have one drive bay for 2.5" HDD or SSD. 4. It's not the cheapest laptop but not too expensive too. I think that that price is reasonable for what you get.

Thanks! It depends on the resolution. MiniDP 1.2 supports up to 4K at 60hz but if you gonna play at 1080p you may get higher frame rates. I'm not too familiar with external monitors but I think you should be able to get 120hz or 144hz max at 1080p. But for that you will need a cable that supports that too.

The laptop itself doesn't support G-Sync, but you may get it on external monitor depending on the connection. But I don't know if any port in Scar 2 supports it. I think it would be good to ask Asus directly

I own the Scar II and have been playing games on my 4K monitor recently but most new games can't be run at 4K without much lower settings even with a more powerful graphics card but 1440p or "2K" is a sweet spot where you can play get most of the enhanced detail and 60fps in most titles.

In terms of specs the Scar 3 is not going to be much better but it costs more. Just the design is different but there are also people who prefere the design of Scar 2. The Scar 2 is still a great laptop to buy.

@@TechFinds The track pad froze for the 2nd time on me and windows had to reboot itself. Wow , was It really $1299? I missed it , yeah I'm seeing the one now for $1450. I don't mind the price but the only thing that concerns me is adding the SSHD. The one I want to order does not come with a HDD Installed so I would have to insert the cable in the MB myself. Other than that everything else looks good. There is also a same setup but with a 1060 6GB card for $1,099. Which is attractive as well. When I watch you comparisons, I don't see a very noticable difference. Is RTX 2070 worth $350 more than GTX 1060?

I have a question with GL504GS (GTX 1070), since I had this model since last august. I'm experiencing "ghosting" problem with the mousepad where, for a short couple of seconds, it won't respond to my touch/tap/actions/scrolls, but then it responds after at least 10 seconds. I'm thinking its a software issue so I reinstalled it, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Are you experiencing it with yours? If so, why is this happening and how can I fix it? Any input is appreciated, thanks!

I had 2 Scars, one with GTX 1060 and one with RTX 2070 but no such problem in with any of them. Have you still a warranty? Contact Asus's support, maybe they can provide any solution or proper drivers but i suppose that it may be the touchpad itself, like physically damaged or defective.

@Immortal Warrior Angel still no luck with mine. I've spoken primarily with ASUS support and then with the reseller, and advised me to basically reinstall the entire OS. I've basically downgraded the BIOS, created recovery drive and resetted the entire PC. My reseller says the latest windows update might be the culprit due to incompatibilities of some sort but its not the case for me. They also had me check if the issue occurs in BIOS, which it does in my case. Try it with yours and let me know. Also is your touchpad a fingerprint magnet? Mine is already stained, from the natural oils from my fingers. My reseller also advised to contact ASUS so they can test it out. I have a bad feeling its a hardware issue with the touchpad, but i'll see what ASUS says...

As I said in the review I bought it in the UK where I live. The configurations of every laptop always vary between countries. Fortunately for me in the UK they sell dual channel (2x8GB) models on Amazon. I also said that in the USA you will most likely get the single channel (1x16) one.

As my daily driver I'm using the Predator Helios 300 but I'm gonna buy something more powerful in this year's Black Friday. To be honest the Scar II was the best overall laptop that I've tested so far so I'll be considering it too.

I know mate, Scar 2 RTX 2070 is for sale now. It's $700 off! If I had to choose i would go for the Scar 2 without even thinking about it. ;) The RTX 2070 is much better than GTX 1660Ti and Scar 2 is a great laptop in general.

If you wanna device with long battery life you shouldn't look for gaming laptops since they all have powerful hardware which consumes a lot of power. I'd say that it has good battery, but only for a gaming laptop. Depending on what you do it can last up to 5h with half brightness.

Depends on game. It can hanfle light games but the games i showed here are unplayable on silent in my opinion. Performance decreased by half at least.

They're all pretty much the same in terms of fan noise under heavy load and they all run relatively hot, so you have always choice between overheating or loud fans. As I said, Scar II is slightly louder than most of laptops under heavy load, but I also had louder laptops than this.

A heads up, almost every single other laptop that has a 2070 rtx is a much slower card. It's a rtx 2070Q. Do your research before buying. The Q is like a 1050 with ray tracing.

hey man i got my scar 2 back in august 2018 with 1060, the laptop came with single channel ram and my fps is suffering alot in bf5 which i play the most. the laptop didnt heat up much for first 4 months, cpu usually ran between 87-93 and gpu in 80s but now the gpu caps to 90 and cpu always above 93 and hitting max of 97. i repasted it with cm master maker gel which is apparently a second best thermal compound but the temps after repasting didnt change at all, it was just the same. i live in india and i understand if i get hotter temps than usual on reviews of youtube but i feel this too much. is there anything you would suggest? the temps are after undervolting cpu by -.85V and even the gpu

You can go for -0.135V with i7-8750H. However this laptop doesn't need undervolting at all because it has a really good cooling. After repasting it should be fine if you applied the paste properly. This laptop rarely goes over 90 degrees so there's definitely something wrong if it stays over 90 all the time. Are you sure that both fans are working properly? You can replace the battery in case if the old one is broken or lost it's efficiency but you can't have a bigger one. RTX models of this laptop have much better battery life because they're using integrated graphics while dedicated GPU is not needed. GTX models should do the same but i've heard some rumors that they can't switch to the integrated graphics because of some issue (i am not sure).

Finally bought this laptop.. and also add an extra 16gb stick to make it dual channel.. but is it normal that when i play rainbow six siege, my cpu usage is around 60-70% which is pretty normal for me i guess? But my gpu usage is less than 80%... is that okay? Do you play on turbo mode? The hardware usage I'd different for each game but it usually doesn't go over 60% while the GPU usage is at about 99% in demanding games. I didn't test Rainbow Six Siege but you don't even need more that 160 fps. Your display is 144hz so it can display only 144 frames per second anyway.

In Scar it a tually happened not often and idk how about your unit but mine didn't throttle at all. On balanced mode the temperatures should be lower but remember to ramp up the fans to max manually in order to keep em low.

@@VeMpX8 Power limit is depended on the mode you're actually on. The fans run automatically anyway but you can increase the RPM levels if you want better cooling. I set from 100% to 102% range for both fans.

You can set balanced or silent mode, but it will drop your fps down. Every laptop needs to be loud in order to cool CPU and GPU effectively to get better performance. You can also try undervolting

Of course Scar II with RTX 2070 is going to perform a way better since the CPU is more powerful. Also the Scar II is much smaller and lighter. Helios 500 is considered as a portable desktop replacement, because it's big and heavy laptop. I think that they should drop the price of Helios 500 with GTX 1070, because there RTX laptops that came out cost about the same price and they perform even better. Some of them are even like $500 cheaper equipped with RTX 2060 which is comparable to GTX 1070 in terms of performance. The thing that we can't deny is that Helios 500 has the best cooling out there. However laptops like Scar II are not even close with cooling system efficiency but it's still perfectly enough to keep respectively low temperatures. I would personally go for Scar II but the choice is yours. ;)

@@tuizero1 These are actually good temperatures and it's normal for laptop to heat up right after turning on. What is strange is why your GPU is working after startup. It should use only CPU and integrated graphics when idle or doing light work. That's probably why the fans are louder, because the GPU fan turns on as well. However there's no chance that even in this case the fans can work with maximum speed like you said. You should contact Asus service to get more info or any solutions.

Unfortunately i don't know deep specification of this exact USB C ports that Scar II comes with so can't answer you for that question. However, some USB C (no TB3) ports can support monitors and since this is a gaming laptop there is a chance that you may plug the monitor in. Just look around the internet for some info to be sure.

You can see your ram amount in Armoury Crate, or in Task Manager / Performance monitor. The Gl504 and Gl704 have two ram slots. Not every sub model comes with 32gb. Many come shipped single channel 16gb samsung ram. Very easy to source another stick that matches to get dual channel 32gb for usually the price of two 8gb sticks.

Use overboost fan mode as the fans spin faster. With Asus laptops it's common as you may have bad thermal paste. Usually changing thermal paste helps, especially when you didn't change it long time

Tech Finds it's okay i found the solution but there is a cons.. i got clock speed throttling unless i modify the temp limit on Asus gpu tweak II to be not more than 83 degree C and i got stable clock speed.. but then that will make my cpu runs super hot and thermal throttling even when i undervolted it.. I tried using msi afterburner to undervolt the GPU but the temps still pretty high .. The only way i can fix this is by reducing my cpu clock speed to 3.5GHz in throttlestop so that both of the gpu and cpu runs much cooler 🙁

@@VeMpX8 Yep, the laptop has also shared heat pipes so higher GPU temp will affect CPU temp too. That's strange that your GPU had capped temperature. My unit was not limited and i could take full advantage of the GPU power while the temperatures were pretty low.

I think $1850 is a reasonable price for this laptop. Scar 3 is actually listed on Amazon for $2300 with RTX 2070 and it Will be released at 17th of May. . I would rather wait for price to deop, because new laptops are always too expensive at the date of release. You have to ask yourself if you need 9th Gen i7 and features of new Scar 3. I don't know if it's gonna have better cooling but Scar 2 actually has one of the most efficient cooling systems among gaming laptops. In terms of features and performance I think that Scar 3 is not going to be much better than Scar 2.

@@VeMpX8 Wow, $2200 is a good deal for RTX 2080 and Raider is a very good laptop (i think the clostst competitor to Scar II). Just check out my gaming benchmark video for Scar II (RTX 2070) and then look for some benchmarks of RTX 2080 Raider and compare them. I think RTX 2070 is totally enough for gaming since you get over 100 fps on highest settings in many newest games. @@sherifhussein5299 It's a hard choice to be honest, because the 2019 Predator Helios 300 is very competitive laptop now. I think i would go for Helios 300, because it comes with dual channel RAM and newest generation of i7 but unkike the GTX 1660Ti version the RTX 2060 is kinda expensive. I've heard that GTX 1070 Scar II has a battery issue which causes short run on the battery (but i can't confirm 100%). If you want Scar anyway you can go for RTX 2060 model and it should be cheaper than Helios 300 with RTX 2060 i guess. It's actually the best laptop that i've tested imo.

It was stock RAM. The laptop came with 16GB dual channel. I can't test it anymore, because it was a testing unit and i sent it back long ago. But i'm pretty sure that you can get over 220FPS (if not more) in Fortnite on lowest settings. However, the display is 144Hz so you'll be able to see 144 frames anyway.

I think it's not normal. No laptop makes any noise while charging. You should check if there's all ok with the power brick, power input or your wall sockets. If another laptop doesn't make that noise plugged into the same socket you may suspect that your new laptop came defective and you should return it and get a good one.

I actually both this for 1 month now. U need to buy extra sshd or Hdd. Cause it comes with 512GB only nvme. Every thing else is fine. Temperatures are pretty cool. Not that hot and not that cooling. Thanks for the review

Hardware is powerful enough. 3D rendering may be slower but for semi-advanced video and photo editing it's a good laptop. And the screen is accurate enough - i would use it for editing my videos without problem.

After a few months of use the laptops Fans start to go crazy and super loud. Very Very Very loud like having a a plane in your room.

Check the temperatures on the CPU. Also if you're on turbo mode the fans run at higher RPM. To reduce noise you can switch to silent or balanced mode.

Tech Finds The computer is on silent mode while both cpu and gpu temperatures are between 36-40c and still the computer fans are go crazy. Many people are going through this problem with this model. If you have any solutions I would love to hear them.

For max performance enable turbo mode. You can play on balance too but the performance will be decreased. Just play around with this and find out what's gonna work best for you. :)

@@TechFinds I'm also stuck between choosing asus tuf fx505gm or lenovo y530 both has same specs (i7 gtx 1060 144hz) both has 16gb of ram but the asus has single channel so yea it's a bit of a bummer but i like the build quality and the design + the rgb and color accuracy but that lenovo y530 has a free gaming chair if you buy it in my country (in a specific store) and it's $200 cheaper with the same specs and a dual channel.. but some reviews claims that the fans on the y530 are loud and sometimes it kicks in very hard for like a couple minutes in idle like wtf .. how about you mate if you were me which one would you choose?

@@feljosephdumoran4779 I haven't tested Legion y530 but i had Asus TUF FX505. I actually didn't know that TUF comes with 144Hz display option but configurations may vary between countries. It was a decent budget laptop but i think that Legion might be better choice overall. Basing on reviews it seems to have better cooling than Asus. Legion is the Lenovo's main gaming brand while TUF is the Asus's budget gaming option. I think i would go for Legion if i had to choose between those 2 laptops but if i had other choices i would consider MSI GP63, GE63 or upcoming new generation of Acer Helios 300.

@@TechFinds dang.. i hope some dope new laptops will release before first week of june because i really need a laptop before school starts (I'm an IT stud) if the y540 or zephyrus g ga502 will release (depends on which launch first in my country) I'll buy it straight also hopefully there will also be a 9th gen laptops that has 1660ti will release and hopefully it's not that expensive... wish me luck mate

I think every GPU is bottlenecking since i7-8750H is too powerful even for the RTX 2080. But in graphics programs GPU doesn't matter so much and you still have a good CPU that you can take advantage of.

@@owencaleblau1644 I think not. Look at the CPU and GPU usage while gaming. Usually the GPU usage is near 100% so it means that it's the limit and you can't get more of it while the CPU works usually at maybe 50-60% so it still have enough resources but the GPU is limiting it.

@@stew880 if I had to choose i would go for Scar 2, but that's my personal preference. Performance wise both should be about the same if they had the same specs
