This weekend there were some crazy promos and trande-in, I got my 8a 256gb for 250€. A mobile carrier has the 128gb for 220€ but with contract. This is a phone that shouln't be more than 350€, for the retail price the regular 8, iPhone 13 or Samsung S23 are better options.

​@@Eugensson it was till 3th of July, maybe u are to late. Pixel 8a cost €550 I combined it with a subscription plan of 1 yr for €7/month (=€84 cost) with that the phone only cost €369. With the trade in of my old Poco X3 NFC I get €17 + the promo of €150. Total of €202 and the SIM card (€87) I gave it to my mom

Nice review. I got my 8a on Saturday and seems like a decent phone. I upgraded from a 6a and really like the new screen and the facial recognition which like you said is very fast and seamless. I got $100 for the Google store plus $180 trade in for my 6a so I got the phone for $220.

When you switched to the Pixel 8a at the 6:37 mark, the main noticeable difference was the slight drop-off in volume. The picture quality was superb!

I actually really like the 8a and love the colors and the matte plastic back for durability, but I do think Google should’ve charged $399 instead of $499 so it would truly be a budget phone. I may wait and see if any issues arise on the 8a and for it to go on sale before I pick one up.

I'm in Australia. I went out today to do some research on a new phone. I've only owned an iPhone. I discovered that many retailers here are offering the 8 for around $1200, which is nowhere near a new iPhone price, while you can buy the 8A normally for around $850. However, they are offering $300 cashback and $149 trade-in on my iPhone. That's around $400! Here in Australia, that is super cheap. So, it is very hard to consider much else at this stage.

Nice review man. For me I couldn't pass up the opportunity to get $140 credit for my Pixel 4a. Plus $100 store credit. The blue looks nice this will be my first phone that I can remember that isn't black. Hopefully it will be a keeper.

I don't know, but Google is still not good at video recording. It's not bad, but even older iPhone generations just seem to be more fluid, like android doesn't get the frame rates correctly or something, there is always a slight stutter. And the audio recording isn't great either. On the other hand, it's still good enough that you can get used to it, as long as you don't have any iPhone for comparison, it shouldn't bother you. And a large pro is the long updates for 7 years. Even Apple doesn't have such a long support. But we know google, they are good at promising things, but much better at canceling services. So this update promise is something we can talk about in 2031 again.

But iOS is basically for kids. It doesn't let you download it any software you want unless it comes from the app store which is criminal. Probably should be illegal and will be illegal in Europe starting this year. I couldn't imagine using a phone and not having access to browsers with desktop extensions. Third party launchers, revanced, new pipe, f Droid. And the pixel has a much better point-and-shoot camera than any iPhone. MHKBD's blind test The pixels outperformed the iPhone by a country mile. Pixel 6A was number one in the Pixel 7 was number two. Next year the pixel 7A was number one and the Pixel 7 Pro is number two and the Pixel fold was number three. Meanwhile them s22 ultra, s23 ultra and the iPhone 14 and 15 respectively were way behind. iPhone does have a reputation for better video for sure but before those blind tests with elo ratings a lot of people would have told you Apple had the best point and shoot camera. Turn down a lot of that was just reputation. Same with updates, the Apple gets way too much credit for their supposed class leading updates. Even before Samsung and pixel stretched out to 7 years, Apple doesn't give you app updates after the final OS update. So that means like a iPhone 7, 8will never get an app update ever again even while an Android phone from 2015 is still getting Google Play services. So I don't know if you care at all about ad blocking, customization, open source software etc, I think the pixel is way superior to the iPhone. It's biggest weakness is probably it's modem and it's inefficient chip. To me that's a much smaller liability than not being able to choose my own browser (All of the browsers on the app store are based on Safari code so Firefox and brave etc are not even the legitimate versions of themselves)

The heat was really bad on the tensor g1 chip, but it is better on the g2 and g3 chips

@@LilRenlor Still heats up though, G3 heats the phone up while even watching youtube videos. Don't expect to push this one, if you live in a warm climate it will be always warm.

Yes it will heat up a bit because they're using Samsung's fabrication chips which are just notoriously thermally inefficient. It's not a deal breaker for me though I still think if you live in the US or the western market pixels are the best value on Android. With you I guess you can make a case for the OnePlus 12 r this year since it does have an incredibly efficient chip, but also incredibly fast charging and class leading battery life. But I much prefer pixel software and Pixel cameras to OnePlus. The 8t had the 865 chip I think which is an awesome chip and thermally efficient. But of course that phone's not getting updates anymore and doesn't have it nearly as good of a camera. But it's definitely more thermally efficient than tensor But I mean 99% of the time it's not going to cause any issues besides slight feeling of warmth. Some people were saying that was only an issue with the first gen tensor and I don't think that's true according to the benchmarks with temperatures. But I mean it's kind of the nature of chips, 8g1 888, certainly non-arm chips get really hot that's what they do. I think the Pixel will really take a step in quality in 2025 when they no longer contract Samsung to make The chip but TSMC who is making the incredibly efficient 8g2 8g3 etc .. The 888 and the 8g1 (from phones like the s21 ultra and the s22 ultra) we're also fabricated by Samsung and more notoriously thermally inefficient and hot. The 8g1 in particular causes shutdowns on Sony and OnePlus and Samsung had a major throttling scandal and had phones delisted from geekbench and tablet as well

It's not ideal of course and it's going to be an issue with the Pixel 9 as well It should be fixed with Pixel 10 when TSMC is making the chips instead of Samsung. But it still can push any game, it actually has the fastest rendering times of any flagship for video rendering. You can absolutely push it. I mean it's way better of a chip than like 8g1. And people used that for emulation and so on when it was the flagship chip in 2021 or 2022.

@@baldone45for real. I love iphones and androids alike. If I were to make actual videos for youtube on ANY phone I would use an external mic. Iphone, samsung, google doesnt matter. Same with cameras. Cheap camera or expensive camera, you use an external mic.

I wouldn't buy it. The edges are a bit thicker but it looks ugly. For vlogging it has poor video quality as you can see and a really muffled sound. And the photos could also be sharper. Not to mention the plastic back. I could imagine the painted camera frame, where the paint comes off after a long time. I don't know if the Oled of the 8a has a rainbow effect when tilted, at least even the expensive Pixel 7 had it and all a models except the Pro models. Then the battery is charging slowly, sorry. I'm a pixel fan but not this one, but it's a matter of taste

This is a budget varient of the flagship experience the same way Samsung has its FE series and apple has their SE series, this isn't supposed to be a phone thats extremely cheap / extremely affordable

@@realandtrueguys This is nothing like the SE though as this is 95% a Pixel 8 where as the iPhone SE was a huge downgrade in screen and camera etc the 8a is similar to the S20FE/S21FE though not S22 FE.

The Pixel 8 is a few hundred dollars, the 8A is free if you just renew your mobile contract for 24months. (Free as in you pay the same amount as before but get a phone if you want)
