2015 chevy silverado LTZ brake position sensor, stabiltrack,brake light switch,cruise control fix

It started when my cruise control stopped working on a long trip. After conducting research, using a scan tool, and ordering parts….what i thought would be a quick fix was not, and getting the proper part was key, as there's many "brake light" switches for this truck...
I soon found that replacing the GM brake pedal position sensor, with the correct one,is the key to solving a handful of different problems. If it has to be replaced, you have to make sure you have the absolute correct part, it can be relatively easy, or a royal pain in the ass.
Standard #636 did not completely work. It shows it's correct during lookup at the big auto parts stores, and amazon. Changing It fixed cruise control. Then, the brake lights would not work unless the pedal was to the floor. Engine brake ( Duramax) wouldn’t work either.
The scan tool would not relearn the bpps.w this standard parts 636 switch.
I found a diff part number, (GM) swapped it again(2nd time) and everything worked. Everything, After i cleared all codes w scan tool. Everything.
So make sure you use the correct part. If it gets worse than what u started with use another part, and try to use the genuine one from gm.
Trickery:
There's a small “7mm” hex bolt that holds the bpps switch in place. Its a bitch to align the switch to get the small bolt in. Use a piece of hose as shown in the video, make room so you can use 2 hands unless your a contortionist. This switch can really suck to replace. Be warned. It's a 9 on a ten scale, and Im a pro automotive electronics tech. I hated it.
The switch is spring-loaded and has to be set just right to be installed properly work. Don't overtighten, and testing it without it being mounted may give you a false result. Using the double stick tape was a huge help, again, switch is spring loaded and u wont get a 3rd hand or pygme in that dash.
Once the proper switch is in, you may NOT need to relearn it with a scan tool. It didnt on this truck built nov of 2014 w a Duramax 6.6.
Good luck, hope this helps, This repair will save you a lot of money. And the dealers can charge you a lot guessing on this one. And it was not a ground issue.
Apparently theres diff brake switch setups. This one is the worst, yours may be easier. This truck had adjustable pedals, ltz and z71 package. Yours may be different. Thanks for watching. If you like this video, buy your friend drinks w the money u saved 😎

Will this cause the backup cam not to work. Also will it lock the gear shifter preventing it from working properly? Thanks

it is possible.Check w chevy to make absolutely sure you get the proper part number.

Will this cause the Cruise control not to engage ? My 2014 Silverado turns the cruise control light on but won’t ignite and start the cruise control

It’s possible. Just make sure you get the correct switch if you go that route!

I got the same part for my duramax 2017 but the damn thing will not Relearn also it set a bunch of codes for anything that was related to the brake position switch. Like lane change warning camera, traction, trailer brakes. None of these were a problem till I removed the old one and had to start the truck before replacing the new one. I'm guessing I need to disconnect the battery's

Make absolutely sure u have the correct part. Many of them cross over and look identical but they are not on the inside.

I changed mine because brake lights were stuck on even when truck was off… now lights are working but stabilitrak service light is on ? Anybody have any solution

No sir, your best off going to the dealer and getting the proper one by VIN and trim package.They all look the same but are different. If you get the wrong one you will not be happy.

You did not show how you got both hands up in there with still being able to see what you are doing

Cant get both hands in there, used a 1/4 drive round spinner, to get it started,then a 1/4 drive ratchet to crank it down worked best. Its a bitch on a 15 2500 unless someone else has a trick. Had to do mine twice cause rhe first switch was wrong part number but identical to the others….

Its Not easy in a 15 silverado w an ltz package, the adjustable pedals make it difficult.if you have a better way post it! :)

You don’t do that well of explaining how to get to the bolts of dropping the body control module or even getting to the bolt on there I wish you explained how to do each step better
