I think the 2017 has a much better camera, because of the 1.7 aperture. Plus the fingerprint sensor is a plus. I would definitely get the newer version.

After 3 years of using I can say that: -The screen looks 1080p even tho it's 720p. -16GB of storage is the main problem -the cpu is getting a bit old, new games don't work as good. -You can find mew one for 100$

The J5 is currently around £100-£130 cheaper than A5 in UK. It also has a bigger screen, better camera and more up to date software than A3. Does that make it best value Samsung phone right now?

TomUK7 yeah, but if you are willing to spend around £50-£100 more then get j7 2017 as it has 32 gb storage, 3gb ram, and a bigger screen with a higher 1080p resolution versus 720p

6 hours of on screen time? I don't know about that, mine seems to last a lot longer... I spend the majority of my time at work on my phone and I get home with between 50-60% battery without any charging. All that considering I charge my phone before I go to bed at night, so all that battery drain happens overnight + the time I spend on it at work. The battery life is definitely the strongest side of this phone imo, but I don't like the display, 720p for me is low for 5.2 inches. I have a very good eyesight at close distance and I'm able to see individual pixels even when I hold the phone at a normal distance and that annoys me. I would have sacrificed a little bit of battery life for a 1080p display
