"Arguing that you don't care about the right to privacy because you have nothing to hide is no different than saying you don't care about free speech because you have nothing to say" -Edward Snowden
@heidimiller6423 жыл бұрын
The problem with the idea of privacy is that it's a myth. If some member of the public is determined to invade our privacy, they will succeed eventually. Look at the Great Wall of China. Eventually, it was breached. No matter how many barriers we put in place, eventually they will be breached. So then the solution is to encourage relationships with all classes, all genders, all political parties. I don't believe we never had anything to say. We were physically beaten for telling the truth. Then we quit caring about freedom of speech because nobody enforced the law and protected us for blowing the whistle. Honest people really do not have anything to hide. It's not that we don't care about privacy. First, we knew we never had any privacy begin with. We heard you spying on us. Second, we honest folk never were coniving enough to believe our trusted family and friends would falsify evidence against us in the 'privacy' of our homes. So when the war came, and the chaos ensued, it became obvious to us whom our true friends were and whom were not trustworthy. Finally, after taking many math classes, it became obvious to me that if you can do the math, you can use math to figure out whom an anonymous person is.

Keep in mind: almost every single surveillance camera you can buy is a security nightmare. To start, just never use any "security" camera that defaults to uploading to the cloud, like Nest, Ring, Blink, Wyze or similar. These will keep your surveillance footage without your consent unencrypted indefinitely, and they almost always have absolutely terrible security against being hacked. So many insecurity cameras are used in botnets and found on websites that it is sickening. Cameras are some of the worst offenders in IoT insecurity. Cameras that use local storage or a local network NVR are better, but the security on NVRs is also terrible and I can't think of a manufacturer I actually trust so... either keep your surveillance on an air-gapped network or maybe just make your own with an RPi?

Easy now people! 😮 How many people reside on the planet who own a phone/device that requires all these settings? Really I think that the people who sell these devices should be more educated (not saying that in a mean way) and that they should be able to answer any and all questions and learn how to be explanatory. This would in turn, do a lot of good for the whole internet traffic world. I got to tell you just being my age and having to learn all of this, let alone remember it, can be extremely frustrating, as well as confusing! Can't AI fix the privacy/security settings? Or it would be really cool to have an AI app that follows you adjust your site settings (for you) as well. I like your video is very explanatory and makes a lot of sense. Definitely one to take notes when you're watching! 15:53

The first option is using 4 different web browsers, 1 for each (email, banking, shopping and general web browsing). Option 2 is using Firefox exclusively and having 4 different user profiles set up. Option 3 is to use just 1 Firefox user profile and create "containers". I love firefox and really prefer option 3 best then option 2 because it would be great using 1 browser. However, I'm thinking it will not offer the most security against fingerprinting and tracking. I'm new to all this and would greatly appreciate your suggestions!

I'm not sure if there's a video by them covering these specific things but I can try and give a couple of tips from being in a similar living situation that may be of some use: -If you have access to the house's router, secure it as much as you can by disabling unnecessary options and features, enforcing a strong password (provided it's not too long or too complicated for everyone else to type out) and making sure the router stays up to date. -Invest in buying a separate router so your data isn't being passed through the same network as others in the house (would highly recommend with one with VPN functionality so all the devices that connect to it can have their traffic encrypted without needing to install anything on each device). Doing this should help make it harder for social media trackers, viruses that travel across local networks and the like from reaching you. -If your house has smart devices around that other people use, try to make it difficult for them to identify you. Not having any accounts connected to them is a good start but for items that have microphones or video it can be tough to obscure your identity outside of minimizing the amount of talking you do around the devices as much as possible. To fix this I try and talk with my housemates from my bedroom as much as I can and limit what I say anywhere else in the house. -If you're extra paranoid about exposing yourself to mic-enabled smart devices or having your real information shared with services that people in your house use, encourage people to call you by a nickname instead of your real one. This can help further separate your real info from the data that's being collected through services you don't use. -If you're in a household where not everyone has a computer or smart device, or they need something to use temporarily from the 'tech enthusiast' of the house, utilize a hardened virtual machine (VM) or trusted emulator for Android (if you don't want to use the first-party emulator in the Android SDK from Google's website) for them to use. Couple this with a VPN running inside of it as software and the other person can do whatever they want on it without affecting your main machine. When it's not needed anymore, wipe the VM/emulator. -If possible, encourage everyone in the house to contribute towards purchasing a trusted antivirus plan that covers all their devices as well as yours. Antivirus solutions have been around long enough for many people to be aware of what they are and why they're important so it may be easier to convince them to spend a small amount a year for some protection than having none at all, especially if they're the kind of people who go on websites or use services that aren't always secure or trusted

@@mollyrulz9999 Awesome response! The only other consideration I would add is one that breaks the premise of the question: buy your own dedicated internet connection. Not feasible for some people, sure, but still is a good idea to consider!

Are you considering that VPN services with servers inside Europe/North America are essentially worthless?

Hey Techlore what is the difference between a password and a master password like on the application like the password mangers ask for
@techlore4 жыл бұрын
If I'm understanding the question correctly: the master password is what protects your password manager. Go Incognito covers passwords VERY thoroughly if you want to learn more about them: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oIvVZahro6qNhpY

Is there any privacy and security benchmarking for smartphones like we have many benchmark for performance ?
