iOS. Used to use Android on the Pixel, but prefer how it syncs with my MacBook and Apple TV. I have heard of Android users installing GrapheneOS to “degoogle” and I respect that. At the end of the day, use what works best with your workflow and priorities. I see people on degoogling/privacy subreddits and here on KZbin that say “you’re not doing it right if you aren’t using Arch Linux, Arkenfox and a pixel running GrapheneOS!” This strict attitude and dismissal of those who are stepping into the world of privacy/degoogling is hurtful and anti-productive towards the actual goal of privacy.

What I can't give up on Android: • Browser engines (Firefox + uBlock origin) • File managers that really deserve their name. You can't even show hidden files or name an SMB share under iOS. • Syncthing • Keyboard (soo bad on iOS) • 3rd party app stores • possibility to install self developed apps easily • KDE Connect (limited on iOS) • Auto clickers • GPS spoofing through developer options • Functional but less beauty Widgets • Gesture control (back gesture) • Fingerprint readers (although it's not a software feature it is only available on android phones) • Launcher and OS freedom + customizable • I control my device and not the other way round.

I prefer Android, but it's good to remember that not every model allows you to flash new operating systems (some have locked bootliaders). Not every model is going to be supported for long (but some like Fairphone already have a longer support time than iphone). Android is more of a mixed bag, the best setups are better than iOs, but many are worse.
@Blueeeeeee

What's keeping me on Android: - Fairphone - F-Droid - LineageOS - Actual web browsers where you can install extensions such as UBlock - By comparison Apple devices being unrepairable and Apple being shit to developers and trying to tax you on every level, not touching that anytime soon

I've used custom roms on android for 11+ years now with many different phones, of course and it's the one that i love the most from it. I've hardened my privacy too by not using much social media, removed every trackers, using fully offline stuff for those that don't actually need online connections & keep using vpn and private browser when i need to input my private, sensitive informations. I don't use my phone to monitor my wellbeing either. I've also been building my own ecosystem for years for my android, windows & linux stuff

I use iOS only for how simple it is and the inter-connectivity with other apple devices. That seamless integration is nice. Even though I love Distro-Hopping with linux - once Apple Silicon performance is comparable to a 7600M or higher - I'll likely switch over to a Macbook full-time in the future, just for that seamless compatibility. Used to hate the apple ecosystem a decade ago and now I just like that works.

What's important IMO is that Android did a massive step forward with security and privacy in the recent years and keeps pushing that back to older phones. The system is almost annoying at limiting permissions and battery time to any apps, including ability to let apps access e.g. only user-selected files instead of whole gallery, etc.. The level of configuration you get, same as for notifications, is mind blowing. Not to mention you have choice to use e.g. finger print reader unlike ios, where it's only face-reader cause apple says so.
@brayd1778

Apple's Advanced Data Protection is the only thing keeping me on iOS. I want my photos to be private without giving up the convenience of having face recognition, search etc. I know Ente Photos is a thing but it doesn't have streaming for videos yet so if you want to watch a big video it has to fully sync to the device first which can take a long time and file size is limited too. I know there is Immich which can be self hosted and stored on an encrypted drive on a server but then you have to maintain it etc. and it is not yet stable even though it works well.

I used Android from 2008 to 2022 and switched to iOS in 2022 with the iPhone 14 Plus. The reason I switched is because: I wanted a phone that would get OS updates for at least 5 years; I wanted a phone that was a flagship so it would still feel fast years down the road, and my mom and gf have iPhones so it makes it easier for us to take advantage of iCloud and Findmy and FaceTime, iMessage, and whatnot. I really do miss the customizability of Android but I do love my iPhone. I might go back to Android with the Pixel Ultra in 2027 tho. We shall see

I love being able to tinker with the OS and make Android just how I want it. Honestly at this point the main thing keeping me on Android is the fact that I can customize the UI, record phone calls on LineageOS/GrapheneOS and that I can transfer my Signal messages to a new device which is still not possible on iOS

I live in a country where Google has not started selling Pixels. There are _rumors_ about a possible 2025 launch, but I do not know whether Google will consider my warranty void if I install graphene on my phone (I know that this is not an issue in most of the world, but there has not been any practical/legal precedent set in my country as of yet). I also don't know if my banking/financial apps will work, and if I can get *any* developers to care about my plight if they do not (I also work in tech, and the approach to integrity checks is abysmal here). Which leaves me with apple devices as the most reliable devices with decentish security/privacy that I can actually acquire.

Custom roms Can void warranty, but all you need to do is reinstall Android if it isn't destroyed, As a GOS user and pixel 6 owner. The repairability factory is light years ahead of apple. I just repaired my battery myself and it was a breeze. I could of replaced a few more parts cheap too.

Android profiles are quite a bit more robust. Android profiles allows you to install two versions of the same app, have two different VPN slots, etc. It's almost like a second phone alongside your main one (similar to multiple user accounts on desktop operating systems.) But yes iOS profiles are really nice for notification separation and homescreen customization. It just doesn't have many implications for safety :)

For people who know then yes, but for consumers who are unaware, privacy could be everything they own but they don't know about. Many ppl have fallen for fake ads, scams & phishing because they don't know anything. Cyber hygiene is the most important thing in this day & age and it's a duty for the experts & experienced, if you will to open ppl's eyes abt how important it is because it does happen in real life. I've never got any phishing attempt while some of my friends who don't do anything abt their digital privacy fell into those traps. You might thing digital privacy isn't important because you're already an expert on keeping your digital space clean but for those who don't know, they need to be aware of it all because again, it could be their everything and they just don't know it

I think you will have a lot more hard time making this video in 6 months since EU version of iOS will have 3rd party app stores, different engines etc. I mean hard time because you will have to start separating iOS EU version with the rest of the world. :D Only one objection, Android updates for Pixel and I think Samsung as well said for 7 years? but that leaves a very huge portion of the cheap phones that are other vendors. That will always be an iffy situation. Last I would like to hear more about the part at 1:46 on why iOS does not allow those features, not sure if it is an apple limitation or an actual development limitation, but I think it would be interesting as an added info

I have picked Android for the amount of control you get with it I do wish there were other options though as even android can be somewhat limiting. For example a lot of apps lose functionality the second you rood the device like having root control all the sudden makes it less secure. What it really means is that you as the user have the control and can grant control to other applications as desired where as on an unrooted device google is the one with the control and apps like banking trust google a lot more than they trust the user. Unfortunately they can be right but personally I would still prefer to have that control myself. I will say that if you are not willing to take the time to harden android you are probably better off with ios as google tries to spy on you as much as possible by default.

ADP by itself makes iOS objectively superior than any Android device. Apple also collects dramatically less data than google, although it isn’t zero. FaceID is both easier to use and more secure than Touch ID by far. Excluding flashing grapheneOS, there’s no reason to use Android for people who care about privacy & security. Apple is superior in that regard. Everything else is debatable and/or personal preference.
