I ordered myself one of these RSPdx R2's and am looking forward to testing it out with a number of different antenna configurations. I generally use end fed halfwaves for my portable operations but want to try building up an insane long wire around the pillar in my apartment. I’m sure it will work well with my log periodic for VHF\UHF operation as well. It should be a good tool to add to my toolbox and give me something to play with over the winter. Cheers!

Any chance you have an Airspy Discovery HF+? To me that seems the competition to the RSPdx r2. It’d be interesting to see which has better SNR in the HF bands
@q079068 ай бұрын
Definitely would like to see a comparison to Discovery HF+
@SquillagusNiggle8 ай бұрын
I have an HF+ and the old RSPdx. The Discovery is excellent for the frequencies it covers, but the RSPdx beats having a Disco HF+ AND an Airspy R2 as the multiple antenna ports make it a breeze to set up a multiband receiver. For absolute low-band sensitivity the RSPdx and HF+ are similar, but HF+ seems to have lower noise, probably due to fewer bandpass stages. Looking at those SNR values though, I'd think the new RSPdx R2 will be as good or better than the HF+.

Hi I'm just starting work on doing a survey of a local area where a radio satellite will be built, i will be using one of these to find and record RFI, anyone know any good software i could use that would be compatible with linux or if you can pull out data files for the windows software thats provided with the RSPdx?

Great review. Frankly an SDR receiver only is not much use if it cannot transmit. I wish they would make one that will tx 500mw. Coupling it to an amp is easy.
@4nradio7828 ай бұрын
There are many, many users of SDRs who have no interest in transmitting. There are so many avenues of radio listening and DXing, and SDRs is one type of receiver to use for monitoring. I myself have owned numerous SDRs, since a FlexRadio SR-1000 in 2005-2007. In late 2007 I bought a Perseus SDR (my favorite) and haven't looked back. I have also owned WinRadio, Airspy, SDRplay, Elad, and other SDR brands, as well as SDR based transceivers (IC-7300, IC-705, FTdx10).My personal interest is DXing foreign medium wave broadcasters, but others listen to all sorts of different interesting targets with SDRs. These SDRs aren't limited to just the ham bands 😊
@Yosemite_Sam8 ай бұрын
@@4nradio782 All this is all fine and dandy and goes without saying but for those who are interested, including experimenters, a model that is capable of Tx would be great. I have played with an Hack RF, Open HPSDR, Apache Labs Hermes, Pluto and a G2 Saturn. Transmitting allows for lot more experimenting.
@sssdeecee5 ай бұрын
I think you’re missing the point about SDR receivers. They are designed for receiving and for people only interested in receiving. For instance, I use mine for Radio Astronomy. Why would I need the unnecessary additional and more expensive electronics for transmitting? Also transmitting frequencies are regulated and many bands are either restricted or require licensing; which any rational person should support. If you want to experiment a SDR transceiver, look at HackRF one or LimeSDR.
@Yosemite_Sam5 ай бұрын
@@sssdeecee I have an HPSDR and an Anan SDR. My Hack RF is rubbish compared to them frankly. Lime SDR is old now. I have used SDR since 2008 but I need a transmitter.

I had issues with my SDRUNO after installing one of the first versions of SDRConnect. Removed SDRConnect after many frustrations with it, SDRUNO still had problems it never had before. I had to completely uninstall SDRUNO and then reinstall after cleanup and reboot. I like the look of SDRConnect but am quite hesitant to experiment with it again, until I have more confidence the conflict issues are resolved.

Does SDRConnect still only work with SDRPlay hardware?? I keep hoping I’m messing something up when trying to connect other SDR receivers to SDRConnect. Pretty janky when the market was founded on “open source” and interconnectivity of hardware/software. I refuse to buy “genuine” SDRplay Recievers because their software discriminates against every other piece of SDR hardware available.
@SquillagusNiggle8 ай бұрын
To be fair, so does SDR-Sharp. Yes the software will work with many receivers, but it locks you out of modules and plugins which are the lifeblood of any platform and the reason you'd go with SDR-Sharp in the first place. Unfortunately SDRplay and AirSpy teams managed to have a classic transatlantic fallout and can't reconcile.
