What are some ways that I can get experience in Technical Writing as a college student?
@TechWrite3 жыл бұрын
You can write a user manual by following the principles and methods I explain at my web site tcc6.com, in this channel, and my technical writing online course at Udemy.

Sir, what about scientific research organisations in the areas of Chemistry, Nanotechnology and surely Physics?
@TechWrite4 жыл бұрын
Usually scientists write their own lab reports and papers in research institutions. But the pharma industry employs a lot of medical writers who are also technical writers.

I’ve watched a few of your videos and I am now using your videos as a source to figure out my way into technical writer. I am currently a medical student, and I was thinking it would make sense to go into medical, pharmaceutical or health science technical writer. Is this something that I can realistically do while going to med school, and also remotely? Thanks
@TechWrite5 жыл бұрын
I think you could make a great medical or pharma writer. Health science is certainly another great specialization for a writer with your background. Given your background, you would be the right person to specialize in medical writing for sure. This is something you could probably do while you are still in school if you can schedule and balance your school and work load correctly. However I have no idea if there are any remote-work possibilities where you live.

Can I simply get a technical writing degree without having any experience in any other field and expect to land a job as a technical writer after I graduate?
@UgurAkinci2 жыл бұрын
Steve, yes, in principle you can but you need to like technology, especially software and hardware since most of the hi-tech writing jobs are in the SW/HW sector. If you are not excited by technology, you probably won't enjoy documenting tech systems and gadgets, whether you have a degree or not.

Sir I am currently pursuing my post graduation in English language and literature but lack technical knowledge. Could you recommend me some ways to get technical knowledge.
@TechWrite2 жыл бұрын
There are millions of ways to "get technical knowledge." It's impossible for me to answer this question. You have to narrow it down and think in terms of specific technology fields to get into. But you can start with learning things like how Internet works, what is HTML or Javascript, and get up to speed on the basics of our Internet culture.

Sir, I am Post Graduate in English literature and also have done PGDCA n software testing course. Is my qualification enough to opt for a technical writing job?pls help.
@TechWrite6 жыл бұрын
Ragima, it sounds like you've got a good background to become a successful technical writer. You have both a solid background in English and thus writing, and also completed a software testing program. That should be enough to get you going in tech writing. When I started my tech writing career I was a journalist, so I knew how to write but did not have much technical background. So I learned a lot of stuff on-the-job and did well in the software industry. Wish you good luck.

@@UgurAkinci I don't have one. I thought Junior Technical writers were within reach but that's definitely not the case. I'm looking to do some grant writing volunteering in order to gain experience. Do you think that will help land me a job?
@UgurAkinci2 жыл бұрын
@@ELgeneral-pl9yg Portfolio is important. Volunteering for grant writing should help you get a paid position in the grant-writing sector. Every time you help someone make money, you'll make money too. Try non-profits -- they apply for a lot of grants every year. Good luck.
@ELgeneral-pl9yg2 жыл бұрын
@@UgurAkinci Ok so please answer me this. If I want to get into technical writing does it make sense to do grant writing volunteer work, get a job in grant writing and then transfer into technical writing? I'm a complete beginner.
@UgurAkinci2 жыл бұрын
@@ELgeneral-pl9yg Grant writing is an important specialization in itself. I wouldn't recommend it as a stop-over on your way to tech writing (i.e., documenting software products). I'd recommend you going into grant writing to make a career, a lucrative one too. However, if your heart is in software documentation, why lose time by doing something totally different? Remember, your grant writing experience will be of little use when you're applying to a software documentation job. So it's better to intern for a software company and then climb your way up than interning for grant writing and then switching over to software documentation. My 2 cents.

@@UgurAkinci wow that's a lot, I'm 24 and just graduated, do you think I have the chance if I start reading activity now?
