Can I turn up when I want and leave when I want ? Am I going to be bossed around and told what to do or am I free to do my own thing ? If so I don’t want the job and I don’t think many others will either. These days people prefer to be self employed or build there own workshop and work for themselves then work under someone being dictated too. Think you will be hard pressed to find anyone to do that job. Unless of course your offering £3-4K a month cash in hand this is 2022 everyone wants to be self made not work for someone or under someone and people don’t want to be told what to do. I think garages as a whole should change the dynamic around how they work and how they treat the employees people would enjoy what they do and not want to leave and be more willing to help customers. Just check kwik fit and National auto tyres all them guys wish they could get out and always look over stressed when you arrive that isn’t a good look. As a person saving to buy my own garages across the Uk I have always said : If I owned a garage I would allow my workers to start whenever aslong as they arrive and stay open till late so we can get things done. Pay would start when they arrive those who stay later would get a bonus for completing the work in a timed in a effective manor. If a employee needs to go home he can do as he wishes and come back when he feels ready to as you never know what someone is going through mental health and I would support them. Many buisnesses just wouldn’t employ them. I want to change the way buisnesses run and I think I would end up with a lot of applications with a buisness approach like that, that would put many buisnesses to shame. Simple approach to a successful buisness and a place people love to work for you is simple… don’t take on more then you can handle and not only does it keep you happy as a owner it keeps your employees happy as they don’t have to rush and feel pressured which isn’t good for anyone’s mental health, and also makes them dread coming to work the following day. A job should be a place people look forward to coming not dreading the next day. I also wouldn’t inconvenience customers by always telling them a car has to be dropped in the morning for a job that takes literally 40 mins to replace. Common tactic for 98% of garages and that’s a big put off bring the car in the morning for a thermostat change which takes a hour at the most so why do you need it the whole day ? A brake pad change is not needed from the morning. You inconvenience customers a customer should be able to bring the car whenever suits them that’s why I want to open a garage till late, purely because many people have to work till 6pm and can bring it after be repaired get them back on the road without the inconvenience of not having a car. There is no reason for any garage to say bring it in the morning even if it’s a engine rebuild, as a engine rebuild is a 3-5 day job anyway so why do you need something in the morning you ain’t going to start until the following day ? As I said them old tactics don’t work anymore

Slight fault with your open late strategy, parts... Customer shows up at 6pm when all parts suppliers are closed, needs thermostat and read pads, they'll have to come back the following day anyways

@@DoNotComply124 you just mentioned common things that go out on a car, which is why you have that stuff on the shelf. It’s thinking before hand is what will make you successful. no it’s not a hard strategy these days you can order parts online for cheaper then a garage charges which is 10-15% on top of the average part price instead of giving the customer the discount ! Garages get it at trade then charge customer full wack they live off the money on top of the parts cost. I know as I have friends who own garages globally. My plan isn’t short lived I’m telling you that much and sometimes not everything needs replacing it needs proper diagnosis and if you are a specialist independant who only deals in a particular manafacturer then you should have all parts on the shelf readily available. As a specialist you should also know which parts are likely to fail more then others based on common issues. As I said the plan will work out we are planning to open up the first one in London and expand and it ain’t only me, there is a another big KZbinr planning to do the same thing who I’m working with to make this happen. What this will do is bring a lot of garages down and also change the way car repairs are undertaken. Sorry to tell you we put out a poll online and it got very very well recieved out of 735,000 people we got a 94% yes to opening something like that and people agreed with us ! The only thing that’s in our way right now is the local authority’s where we are trying to buy the premises they won’t allow any car repairs after 6PM so we are trying to argue that and we should win as there is a loop hole in that old law which hasn’t been updated. So it may shock you later on when you start hearing about this garage don’t say I never told you already 😉

If it’s not right for you it’s not. No need to ruin it for someone who is looking for such an opportunity. Well done for figuring it all out. I have taken my car to an inspection for a sale to La Rose recently and was blown away by their professionalism. No need to be so subjectively negative!
