I have the same turntable which I bought new back in the 1970’s. It worked perfect up until I took it out of service, and would probably work if I decided to use it in the future. Technics makes good, solid, high-quality turntables among other components.

Those polish out really well when a good scratch remover polish is used along with a few cotton balls and a microfiber towel for final cleaning. I've done several and it can be a tedious job but well worth the effort. I would NEVER recommend what he did here.

The Technics SL-D3 is a fully automatic direct drive turntable. The SL-D2 is an auto return unit. I own a Technics SL-D1 which is also a direct drive but is fully manual which is how I prefer to play my records. Most people have no idea that these great turntables are actually made by Panasonic, a name that usually is linked to el cheapo stereos. The Technics are about as good as they get for consumer level use. The direct drive turntables use NO belts or idler wheels (remember the Garrards and BSR's along with many Realistic units that all used idler wheels?) The only fault I have with any Technics turntable are those fragile tabs on the rear of the dust cover. They break quite easily of you aren't careful in how you raise and lower that cover. Mine has a replacement cover with metal tabs which makes it much more sturdy.
@breezebenitses39711 ай бұрын
Hi Richard did you replace the dust cover tabs yourself? Where did you buy them from? Cheers
@richardcline133711 ай бұрын
@@breezebenitses397 Yes, I found them on eBay. My replacement cover did not have the tabs so I found these, lined them up with the mounts on the turntable base and slowly drilled the holes for the screws that hold the table on. You don;'t want to run the drill fast as it will just melt the plastic and possibly crack the new cover. I would share the link but KZbin, in it's paranoid state, would just remove it.

Nice Job. Except for the hood. Missed chance there. It should have been polished properly with a metal polish or another polishing agent. It would have been shining and see through! And loosing that ancient harden't pick-up element would have been a good idea! after 10 years the cantilever inside the pick-up will not be doing its job properly, could use some rejuvination!

If I am seeing that cartridge correctly it is a Technics but I can't see the model number below the name. I have that same one on my Technics and this model has a replaceable stylus (needle)which makes it a moving magnet type. The moving coil type has to be retipped by a professional and they can get rather expensive.

Record player or turn table. Nobody calls them “vinyl players”. People new to record collecting overuse the term “vinyl” to an extreme degree. Also, the plural of vinyl, is vinyl. The album itself is called an LP, album or record. “Vinyl” is just used as a broad term for all records (ie: record collecting or vinyl collection), but individual albums are just called albums or LP’s (unless they’re an EP), not “vinyls”. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
