SL-1200 by Technics is probably the most popular and copied turntable on the market. Born for professional, Radio and DJ use, it has since gained an important share of the market among audiophiles. After all, Technics in the 1980s and 1990s was highly regarded and offered several models in addition to the 1200 that enjoyed a very good reputation. After many years SL-1200 changes face, and declines in many versions, all oriented toward listening quality. The "G" under test, just below the top-of-the-line SL-1000, is part of the Grand Class line and uses many exclusive new technologies, including the magnesium alloy arm and three-layer platter and coreless motor. It is sold without a cartridge, and in the test we used as many as two cartridges, one MM and one MC, both of which were top-of-the-line, and also commented on the listening differences.
