Beautiful! I'd kill for one of these! I got a SL-5 when it went on sale at my local mall back in the early 80's. Still have it but the rail is like glue now and it doesn't work.

Thanks you. A sticky rail would be gummed up grease. Good luck!

Hi Find the service manual, open up carefully, add some solvent to the rails and wipe off the old grease residues. Add new grease and voila! If there, replace all the belts iside, the tracking belt definitely is too soft now. If belt are hard to find, search similar sizes or you can 3D print it out of TPU rubber filament, use random Z seam position in setings. (I printed mine tracking belt and also for the cassette player).

Hello, great video thanks! Does the SL-15 have a red strobe and/or white cueing light like the SL-10?
@Round2Audio Жыл бұрын

how many of those were built back then? i don't find any info about that online.. and in how many color variations? i've seen silver, black & i think i saw photos of a grey edition?
@Round2Audio2 жыл бұрын
I know the silver and black (really a very dark grey) with the silver far and away the more common color.

How does the SL 5 compare to the 10/15. Picked one up for 50 bucks and going to get it going.
@Round2Audio Жыл бұрын
Soundwise they will be very similar when the mechanism is cleaned and calibrated. The SL-10 and SL-15 are heavier with better isolation.

I have 2 SL-5 and love them and built well.

Hi there. Thank you for the video. Beautiful unit. I have an SL15 as well in mint condition, including the original cartridge. Unfortunately, it developed an issue of stopping without prompt. Would you be able to share who restored yours? If you restored it yourself, do you do that for a living? 😁 I would of course like to have it restored/repaired but I do not dare to just take it to an unknown shop. Any thoughts will be appreciated. Thank you.

I do restore these, they are wonderful units as you are aware. There is much to do to get them to a top notch and reliable state, but as a start I suggest removing the inner top cover and very thoroughly cleaning out the old grease, and VERY lightly applying new synthetic grease, as well as a new belt. The main rail is often sticky and over lubricated over the years. I clean this up thoroughly, then apply synthetic grease, move it back and forth a few times, then wipe off the grease. Try this and please report back. With diligent service, these can run again for many more decades. Good luck!

Hello. Nice ! I have à sl5 and à sl ql15. I have a problem with autosize detection on sl ql15. I dont know how its work. Have you an idea ?
@Round2Audio Жыл бұрын
If it plays and tracks well, then the autosize is likely the calibration.

Hello do you know anyone that sells this and it has been serviced / restored ?

Hi Justin, I have an SL-15 available for restoration. They are the rarest of the bunch and I try to keep an eye out for worthy restoration candidates. Please send me a note at Round2Audio@gmail.com if you are interested.

I bought an SL-6 Technics Turntable - also programmable linear tracking, and i just realized i can listen to my John Lennon Records and skip over the Yoko tunes without having to get up! any coincedence yoko kinda ruined half the Lennon album in 1980 and these programmable players came out soon after haha? just kidding haha
@jacknjill3000 Жыл бұрын
So this is the programmable version of the SL-10?
@Round2Audio Жыл бұрын
Yes, the SL-15 adds track selection and programming. Both have excellent performance.
