If you play a song for one minute will the BPM meter stay the same numbe?, In other words ,do you see a torque drag on the platter? Thank you..

How do you get the tracking leds on your 4trak to be level meters? Would it work with the 4trak alone?

Yes, the LED tracking works in 4Trak alone, but it's not very accurate. Since I have a lot of mapping on my 4Trak, the meter LEDS stopped being accurate. If there are simple mappings like the ones from the Numark site, the LED metering will work as intended.

I don't. I got my SD cards through an online Facebook community. I recommend searching online to find someone who has the software and the required SDs if you're looking into this yourself.

Where did you get the SD cards? Also did you burn the serato cd or the original? How do you like them for scratching?

+Chris H Hey Chris, there's a facebook group dedicated to the SL-DZs and I bought my timecodes from there. I also bought a firmware SD card just to update the players. I'm not sure how to put the timecodes myself onto an SD card and you need old tools since the hardware is dated. One limitation I think you need to use 1 gig or 2 gig SD cards, anything bigger and the players won't read the SD card. That alone is tricky to find. Plus you need an old software and an external hardware piece to write the timecodes on the old SD cards. Truthfully though, I didn't notice performance issues between SD or CD. I just like the SD cards because they don't get scratched or get damaged the way a CD can. Also I have heard that some lasers in the SL-DZs just die over time, but I haven't heard anything like that about the SD reader. So if you're CD laser dies, there's a backup as the SD reader. For scratching I felt they were good, but it's different from real vinyl. The direct drive feeling is the same. The platter is 10 inches though so it's smaller than a standard record. The metalic film on top of the platter jiggles slightly, but it didn't bother me. Try to find one at an old record shop/DJ store and see if you like the feel. There's a company in Toronto that makes custom vinyls for the SL-DZs that fit on tightly and feel like real vinyl, but I've never tried those. Like I said, checkout the SL-DZ 1200 facebook group. Lots of info there.

Thank you sooooo much for the detailed feedback. I will start with the CD's and eventually migrate to the SD cards. Did you used the offical control CD or a burned copy? I am just wondering because I didnt know if the DZ would read a burned CD. I ended up getting the pair for a price that I could not pass up. They should be here by 3/24/16. These have been a DREAM set of players and I hope they will live up to the hype. I plan on swapping out the original cue points and replacing the sensors with dicers so they can be MIDI functional. I also plan on converting them to the "MKII" style with the center spindle ect.

+Chris H Hey Chris, I used original CDs not burned copies so I couldn't say for sure. But a burned copy should be an exact copy, so there shouldn't been any problems. By the way, your project for refitting the SL-DZs sounds like a dream! I wish I had the technical know how to get that done : )

You need windows xp, an old software which writes SD cards that only works for windows XP and there's a size limit on the SD card. I can't remember what size, but it's very small and hard to find. Something like 250 MB. The SLDZ1200's weren't designed for forward capability. In other words, 2 or 4 gig SD cards won't work.
