Thanks for doing these videos. Your first video of the Dual CS-515 gave me the courage to tear apart and fix a CS-620q that I happened upon. I've fixed up half a dozen turntables since then (gave away most, kept a couple). I've got a line on a SL-Q300 that I may pick up this weekend, and I feel pretty prepared for getting that one up and running.

Excellent service video. I just got my hands on an SL-Q300. The only issue it has is that the tone arm doesn't lift enough at the start or return at the end of play. It basically bumps into the edge of the record at start and scratches across it when retuning. I can see the lifter move VERY SLIGHTLY but no where near enough to lift the arm properly. I saw the mechanism moving when you had it apart but it seems fairly inaccessible. I'm pretty handy but is this something to leave to a professional? I'd love to get your two cents on this. Thanks again for the excellent content.

There should be an adjustment screw on the lifter arm.

@@TurntableGuy Thank you for the reply. There is a screw built into the saddle (?) that raises to push the tone arm up from bellow and drops to lower it into position. The screw adjusts the overall height of this saddle. Is it just a a matter of finding a very fine middle position? The cue control doesn't really move the arm at all and the automation only moves it at most a millimeter at the stylus end. If I could just disable it and cue manually I would but the auto return scratching across the record is forcing my hand. I really appreciate your free advice and won't keep asking follow ups. Thanks again.

@@stevewalther843 You need to open the bottom and see what's going on. Quite possibly some old grease preventing the mechanism from raising the piston that raises the arm.

That was a basic service. From my experience, the rest of the greased moving parts will gum up eventually, not a matter of when. If the customer was willing to pay it'd be beneficial to unscrew the entire moving assembly and remove all the old grease and replace with new synthetic grease.

LOL good video... I guess I wasn't I the only one that noticed you left the clamp in the unit when you put the back on....funny, anyway thanks for the advice on the lubrication for the spindle. I have the next model up and have a hum, waiting for the ground wire to connect to see if that fixes it. Ps since it has phono jacks and my receiver has a phono line in, I can go straight in, but I also got a preamp, wonder if there is any harm pushing the signal through the pre amp and then into the phono line in? Any thoughts?

I have this deck and it’s worked great so far, but now i have an issue were sound only comes from one speaker and if i pan it to the other speaker there is no sound, if i jiggle the stylus a bit the full sound comes on but after a while it starts going only on one channel again. I have another stylus and it makes the same problem… im thinking it could be the cables along the arm to the cartridge or some bad contact in it…

Thanks for your video! I have the Technics SL-QX300. I am having issues with the tonearm dropping too quickly. I assume that damping fluid is added under the arm-lift adjustment screw (which I have done). The tonearm still drops rather rapidly. Is there another location is should be added? Any help appreciated.
@TurntableGuy2 жыл бұрын
You probably need to disassemble the lift piston from the cylinder and re-coat the entire mechanism with silicone fluid. I have several videos showing the procedure on different tables.

Help. Everything works fine except the cartridge is sliding across the record after playing the first track. I thought it was a bad stylus so I replaced the cartridge and stylus with AudioTechnica. Same thing. I’ve had this turntable done new but it has been in storage for quite awhile.

Check the arm weight and anti-skating first. Next check to see if the arm lifter is not touching the tonearm when the record is in play and the cueing is in the down position.
