This engine can actually go to 12,000 rpm ;) all from a 1.6 liter...Toyota is the best.

But the engine you're thinking about was killed at around 12.300 RPM.

I think the engine builders did right by publishing +10,000rpms. I'm sorry, I wont say much, but after reading some of the stuff below; I think the builders should put some of the guys straight, with regards to the RPM out of control specs....:) If what I read was true, your peak power should be between 9200 and 9400, with some tweaking it actually will cross 11,000rpm, but without any gains, really. There are also issues we found after running for extended periods over 11,200 on a one mile course. Yes, it did hit the rev limiter at 11,600rpm in fifth gear, but with zero grunt. With that project we did not use the 4A casting. You guys know what I'm talking about. The motor runs really nice, sounds great. There are cams available to move the peak up, without pulling back the timing significantly, but they are very hard on the valvetrain. I enjoyed listening to the cip. Thank you

other 16v 4A-GE produces 240hp @ 10,500 rpm. amazing, though. it sounded even better than the TRD 20v blacktop of Tsuchiya and it reminds me of the F430 Scuderia's engine.

Accept instead of the 20v it’s the 86 old 16v fully built
@rompsamies93154 жыл бұрын
Kaybe Vang he got a fully built group a 20 valve 4age silvertop that revved up to 11k rpm if i remember correctly
@KingEdIV11 жыл бұрын
It does seem that way, but actually in that vid he's running less power and less aggressive cams. What makes it seem like he is revving higher is the fact that he has a 4.1 final drive ratio, so he's actually just revving longer, not higher, in this vid the car has a much shorter final drive and therefore revs up faster per gear.
@AE86TougeRacer13 жыл бұрын
@piston335 no, they used a special "5AG" crank with a bigger stroke (83 X 83mm)made only by HKS, then bored the block to 83(from 81) and used a CA18DE piston(there bigger) so the overall displacement increased to 1796cc. GOSH!! theres a whole 4.5AG, 5AG, 5.5AG, 7AG AND 8AG. they all involve increasing the displacement size for more torque and power!!!! almost all AE86 N2 machines don't have 4AG's anymore (only a few)

Look up the term "geared" in the dictionary. you will see in there "To adjust or adapt so as to make suitable" or something to that effect. A cam that is "geared for high rpm" is the same as one that is "tuned for high rpm" or "designed for and intended for high rpm". Are we getting the picture now? Also, in a twin cam engine you can dial in the lobe separation to make it wider or narrower with adjustable cam gears, making it literally "geared for low/high rpm" Just throwing that out there.

i didn't mention it as gears or gear ratios, its a common term in the automotive industry, how do you know what profile they are running, they might be running a Symmetrical cam profile! yes it makes stuff all power off the line, but how often are you start stop driving in a race!, you don't need to have the power at low rpm, you want an engine that is more geared for high end rpm, specially in drifting!, please you go read a book, you clearly got your info off wikipedia

It's really easy to be skeptical when it comes to RPM, it's all relative though. this kinda race engine probably idles rough at 1800rpm even though it sounds like it's just ticking over. Go back to the 30 second mark...realistically it's probably doing about 4000 RPM there in the pit lane and you can hear that it's well "under" the cam..
