Have shown family/friends some Dolby clips and they were amazed at the experience and want it, It's a free selling point to help sell more multi channel Atmos A/V receivers.

I don't care about the other content on the disc except for the Dolby content. Dolby's own content blows the rest away. If I want to show a movie scene I'll show it off the movie blu-ray. Hopefully they will come around.

I just went online and downloaded the demos. They now live on my Nas and I use them to demo my system and to confirm system setup. Last time I used them was when I upgraded to my Denon AVR.

The Dolby disc also has a hologram of the Dolby symbol that appears in the tracks/lines when you tilt the disc (it appeared when you showed the two side by side). Bottom line: Dolby wants to be tight fisted on distribution of this material. Yes, they did develop the technology, but with all the people who have home theaters these days, they could make it easier to obtain a demo disc legitimately. Cool explanation and makes perfect sense. Use your head, save your $$. Thanks.

Also, if the Dolby ATMOS demo discs are either August 2014 or September 2015, chances are they are burned copies, because those are the only two available on torrent currently. Beware.

I have the same purple colored disc mine is labeled September 2016. I believe mine is definitely a knock-off as well. I purchased on ebay from an American seller however, I recieved Orange Chinesse tracking notification. $10 my copy works perfectly with 1 known imperfection when playing (Test Tones 7.1.4) surround back I also get side surrounds tone at the sametime! Also, printed label on disc is very powdery easily scratched and rubbed off. Otherwise not a bad $10 spent!

Here is another bad eBay experience My Blu-ray disc of Darkside of the moon from the immersion box set stopped working and I found out that there was a bad batch, and found one on eBay for $21 I knew it was going to be a burned one but I didn’t care as long as it worked, and I’m sure you can tell where this is going everything worked except for the quadraphonic version, Only the front left and right worked on the whole album so their are gaps when the sound pan to the back rendering the whole disk useless to me. I re-ordered another immersion set from Amazon and this time I’m burning several Blu-ray copies just in case.

Hi Tony, do you mean the Dolby Vision disc? That will only work on TVs that support DV. They wont even play audio if you don't have DV.

I looked at ordering one of those demo disks..think it was $90. Ended up having one handed to me when I bought the AVRX4500H last month. Did ask if they had one, 1st sales guy said they were out...2nd sales guy said he knew where there was a few. :) That guy looked new...wonder if he got flak after that one? I got the purple/pink one in your vid. Has some nature style Atmos, some movie and GoT clips, drag car vid and the usual speaker tone tests and some cool music tracks. Man that sucks, and there's definitely to many people looking to scam over these just cause there not readily available. I did end up buying one also about a year ago for $50, and I could tell it was a copy but everything happened to play so I didn't think to much of it. Still I wanted to bring it up to the seller but oh well. Also there ares some Dolby Atmos clips on the Dolby app on the Xbox One X that helped me a bit as well. Awesome video!

Jim Wiley I wrote Denon and they sent me a free DTS X disc. (At the time they were out of Atmos discs). I wrote Dolby directly and they would not give out discs unless I was an authorized dealer.

Many of the demo discs are not 4K, so a blue BD case isn't really a good red flag. In fact, believe only 1 or possibly 2 are 4k

Well, I have 2017 - 2020 DTS:X discs and those four demo discs are all 4K UHD. Considering I was looking at the Dolby Atmos/Dolby Vision disc the blue case is a red flag as Dolby Vision would only occur on a 4K UHD disc.

@@TechnoDad ive got the 2015 demo on bluray and it does come up with dolby vision for mad max.same as the lux gravity bluray which has dolby atmos is dolby vision.you can also get some HD hdr

@TechnoDad Great video. I had a similar experience regarding the same Atmos/Vision demo disc. In my case I got the correct black case but I knew mine wasn’t legit for a different reason than you mentioned. Even though it does play in Dolby Atmos and Vision and all the demos play, the audio container is only in Dolby Digital Plus and not TrueHD. If you are pretty certain your disc is legit, would you mind checking how the Atmos is delivered? I’ve long wondered if mine being DD+ was simply how Dolby made it but I’ve had no way to verify. Having said all that I just looked at my disc and its definitely burned.

I know you asked TD to check but I checked my burned copy (off of eBay) and verified that the container is actually TrueHD and not DD+. This was for a 2016 Dolby Atmos demo disk. The eBay seller I bought this from was removed shortly after I purchased the disk, but appears to be back on and selling again. Hope this helps. I guess I’m conflicted, the discs appear to be 1:1 copies that work fine. If my chances of finding an actual genuine one in the wild are slim, why not buy the bootlegs if they work as advertised?

The thing I have never been clear on is is there even a version of the 4K 2018 UHD Dolby Vision/Atmos disc that does contain Atmos in a True HD container. I imagine the official one has TrueHD but I have yet to find one. As for the one I got from eBay, I actually got a refund and got to keep the disc. It's definitely a burned copy and is only DD+, but it does work at least. (It's even in Dolby Vision too!) I also have a Dolby Atmos demo disc I got from Denon so I know that one is for sure legit. I think it's the 2016 Sept one.

This is the main reason I am not yet buying most of the time by the internet I am 63 now Ret military and still an Audiophile freak when I was living years ago in the Netherlands my native country it was still go and look and listen and touch things before you buy and every month came to my house magazines Dutch and German to find out what to buy .I am having a now older 15 K € set my amplifier an Pioneer VSX Ax10i original 5300 € tag on it and Real Subwoofer and speakers 4 igual ones Dutch brand Xanadu ref AW118 and a Xanadu C10 center speaker and a REL 205 Subwoofer and some times two extra rear speakers to get 7.1 but in 2005 2007 period no much 7.1 movies were on the market so back to 5.1 and double front amplified .Well and now yrs later still have it living in South America . ok that's my old story but back to Techno Dad I love your channel and others but the people can not keep up anymore to update it is changing to much and quickly I know it is booming business I knew about the black 4K but now you gave the bad guys it more easy to making fake and people fall into that to easy like you did .but my set is getting too old now if I could upgrade here I would but people are not in that market in South America ,every time I envite people to come to listen at my home they say wow this is better than in the cinema or movie theatre . Currently there are No projector systems that support Dolby Vision. My AV Processor support it but not the projection system but does support HDR10+. I have a OLED that supports it though. Cool and all but not going to worry about it, my setups I have are still way better than any theater you can go to. I am also asking people to boycott the new Maverick movie. With constant push backs and them pushing it back also cater to China, I say we all wait for the 4K. Now I know most out there do not have a home IMAX like some of us do, so anybody in my area that wants to watch it in a theater or IMAX can watch it at my place. I have a 17’ 8K full IMAX setup also supports auro-3D but not even sure it will be mixed with those tracks. But the cost of watching at my place is free as selling admission is illegal, but guests can legally watch it as long as I do not charge. Their greed has made me mad, 2 years of push backs, sorry but that is not cool.

@@rodneywright2577 Unless you get an absolute killer deal (like nearly free) I wouldn't buy anything without listening to it. If you can't hear the 702 s2s, I personally wouldn't buy them. Reviews are a wonderful tool, but sometimes we may like something the reviewers don't, or we will dislike something the reviewers like. I personally don't like the martin logan electrostatic speakers. I don't think they blend well with the base drivers. This might be an unpopular opinion, but it is what it is. I just don't like it. Youre looking at some pricy speakers that are pretty different from one another. In most ways but price. Definitely listen.

Hi i like a lot you channel very informative 👍 you should do a video about vudu physical disc audio .. First let me say the option to upgrade some of my DVDs to Ultraviolet (VUDU HDX) at $5 could be interesting - but my actual experience cools my enthusiasm. Today I did Disc to Digital on 'Blade Runner', 'Dark City' and 'The Fifth Element' - all DVD to HDX. Video quality seems OK - 'Blade Runner' and 'Dark City' probably a little better than good DVD transfers and 'The Fifth Element' looked pretty good. However both 'Dark City' and 'The Fifth Element' were 5.1 audio on the DVDs but only Dolby Digital 2.0 on the Ultraviolet (Vudu HDX). So what is up with that - $5 to downgrade from 5.1 to 2.0 audio. Audio is very much part of the experience. As I say I like the concept - but the content needs to be better for both video and audio if VUDU/studios would like another payment for content we already own.....

@@jhoganjr3560 Wattage is a terrible way to judge volume. Especially at the higher numbers. There is no difference in volume between a 500 watt sub with a driver efficiency of 89db@1wm and a 1000 watt sub with a driver efficiency of 86db@1wm. Every time you double the power output, you gain 3db of loudness. Always, every time. Because physics. There are drivers out there that will play louder at 20 watts than some subs will play at 2000 watts. Its not the norm, but going between 500 and 1000 watts is basically nothing. Volume does not rise linearly with power. Not even close. You really need to dive into a technical review of whatever sub youre looking at to figure out the volume level.

I've been trying to get some of these demo discs for a while now. Almost purchased one recently and so glad I didn't; because it was a fake (I realize now since I've seen your video). It would have been a fake! Thanks so much for the insight. 👍🏻

I hope you had your network ethernet and wifi on the avr / player turned OFF as these fake discs could have back doors/malware/viruses and try to get onto your network and sniif your passwords and data!!

Yeah, I've been to the site and just re-checked. Those MKV files do not play Atmos on my setup. M2TS files do though.

They are on a thumb drive on the Oppo 203. Comes into the AVR as Multi Channel In

Was it Dolby_Demo_World? I bought a 2016 Atmos disc from them on eBay and sure enough it was a burned copy, but it worked perfectly. I was actually looking for them to buy the 2018 Atmos disk but they were removed as a seller on eBay. Looks like they’re back.
