Great review! Full disclosure: I'm Julian, the CTO of Soundbrenner. I noted all your comments, and wanted to assure you we are working on any remaining issues. Especially the rattling ring was a horrible mistake due to some miscommunication with the factory… Recalling all the products would have bankrupted us, so there was nothing we could do. However, we offer a quick fix on our KZbin Channel (the infamous dental floss fix) and also made sure any future customers get a much more silent Pulse. We really rely on your feedback and the feedback of all our customers, so thanks once again for your thorough and honest review.

+Julian Vogels Thanks for reaching out! We really appreciate hearing from you. I’m glad to hear that you are working on the ring buzz, but even more than that I am happy to hear that you are interested in improving the Pulse. It seems common these days for a crowdfunded project to fulfill its obligations and then be done. It is obvious that Soundbrenner is not one of those companies, but instead is interested in continuing to work on this product and improve the user experience. I knew when I signed up that I would be an “early adopter” of the Pulse and what that entails, and I am very excited for what new improvements Soundbrenner brings to it.

I ordered the pulse. It was delivered in a matter of days. Was super excited to get it out of the box and use it. Took it straight to band practice before even trying it in the drum room. First impressions were it was easier to ignore the pulse compared to a in ear metronome but I love the concept. Battery life may be an issue for a whole night, don't know yet and not sure if it will actually become annoying to wear for extended periods..... I found the accent in standard configuration is only extended duration and actually blurs the pulse. I only use the accents on slower tempos now. I didn't know you could change the vibration pattern. Thanks for that tip. Enjoyed your review !

It is a fantastic instrument. So far I'm very satisfied. The battery charges relatively fast and lasts for a good period. To study is undoubtedly the best metronome I have ever used. Sometimes it crashes with the app which can be nasty in a live situation, but to a study session it’s not serious issue, just reset the unit.

Hey Man! Great review! I just got my Pulse and it's very comforting to find someone who's experiencing the same issues, specifically on using it and feeling like a beginner again. I was really frustrated when I first tried it out on my kit since I was expecting more of a "this is really better than a click" reaction, rather than a "this isn't working" one. Right now I'm trying to learn using it but updates on your experience with it so far would be helpful! Thanks!

I see it can connect to a Mac and be used as a MIDI clock output in most DAW's. That could solve the issue of song structures, just create tempo tracks in your DAW.

I just received the Pulse. I was very excited to try it with my DAW...until I realized the product does not support windows. Had I realized it does not with with windows I would never have ordered it. I'm blown away that a company would choose BT knowing that the BT architecture was not well supported with the most common OS in the world!! I guess it will sit on the shelf until there is one as I have no intention of going to Mac, and I'm not a big mobile user :(

How I wish I could have one for my son as a gift for church Anniversary and Thanksgiving on Nov 30.2017 but i don!t have the means for it. My son who is a Pastor in Philippines likes it very much because he plays the drums in Praise and worship,then preach after.

Fellow drummer here, interested in getting a Pulse. How did it feel on the ankles? I feel I would rather have it on my left ankle than my arms.
@OttoPercussionStudio
@OttoPercussionStudio 8 жыл бұрын
I like it on my left arm because it has the least motion. I tend to bounce my left leg a bit even if I'm holding the hihat down and I found the motion would distract from the Pulse. If you leave your foot in a more stable position I think it would be effective. All that said, I will give a try on the ankle again and get back to you.

I like the product, but I do agree with the fact that it's easier then you think to ignore. I think there's just a big learning curve there. Also, I don't like that you can't program a song to tap once and change to a specific tempo. I play in a band that changes tempos or time signatures in most songs so we've had to adapt to waiting on me to feel the pulse and it's usually a measure or two before we can get back into it.

I think it's a cool idea, but the price is much more than it should be. "minor" issues that were pointed out in the review like the thing not keeping time correctly are actually completely breaking functionality if you're going to use this for anything but practice. Having this thing use bluetooth seems like a really lazy engineering decision. Why not control it with radiowaves and have an actual metronome control it? That would be cheaper and also much more accurate. It making a buzzing noise, again, makes it compeltely useless for using it live or for recording. The real nail in the coffin is that the cheapest wireless in-ear monitoring solutions at roughly the same price.
@OttoPercussionStudio
@OttoPercussionStudio 8 жыл бұрын
I understand your concerns, and the product definitely has some 'First Generation' issues. For the follow up what I'm really looking into is the overall usefulness of the concept, the idea that it may be more beneficial to feel the metronome instead of hear it.

I'm very interested in the pulse but is it capable to set all tempo changes in a song without having to manually change it? I want to know if I could program a whole set list and all its changes so I could just rock out and not worry lol

Hey man! Nice review :) I was thinking to buy the soundbrenner pulse. I' m a drummer as well and sometimes, when I play in live and loud enviroment, I cannot hear the click track very well, plus I hate to turn the volume up to max because it takes away the feel of playing live. What are now your considerations and evaluations after about one month using it? Do you feel any improvement with respect to the standard click in terms of playing feel and timing? Thanks, Keep up the good work ;)
@OttoPercussionStudio
@OttoPercussionStudio 8 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for the kind words! I don't feel comfortable quite yet with turning the audible click all the way off with the Pulse, but I have been able to turn it down quite a way to where it is barely audible and still be accurate. At this point I cannot be certain if this is because I am more used to the Pulse or if I am in general becoming even more comfortable with a metronome. Part of your issue could be how you are using the click in a loud environment. It is much harder to use a click that is coming through a loudspeaker than one coming through headphones. No mater how you're using it, as you get more comfortable with using a metronome it will start to free you instead of take away from the feel. Thanks for the questions. I hope that helps your decision a little. Right now the plan is to put out the follow up at the end of summer or beginning of fall. Thanks!

+Musicians Notepad absolutely , it's what determines whether or not I buy a product. like the gopro would I have known its so pathetic I would have never bought it no matter how incredible the specs and features are... same with this thing. if it can only go for 1 hour and takes 20 minutes to charge then it's certainly not worth the purchase in my mind.
@musicfrendlii96

GoPros are very compact devices so you can't expect phenomenal battery life, an hour and a half is sufficient for how I use it. A pack of spare batteries (three more hours) cost 5 dollars.

it lasts at the absolute most, with a full charge, 30 minutes. which is unacceptable... like simply unacceptable. but even still, I could get over that if you could film while charging it...but you can't.... That's a pathetic device. I mean just imagine that your phone worked like that too. "it only lasts about 30 minutes so make sure to buy another battery or better yet two, and make sure to charge them all because you can't use your phone while it's charging". that's an unforgivable fuck up for a 1st world 21st century setting, and they've had like 5 opportunities to fix this mistake but all the go pros come this way (and that's if yours even works from the time you unbox it).

so it technically changes tempo with diff songs as it goes?
@OttoPercussionStudio
@OttoPercussionStudio 7 жыл бұрын
Not exactly. You can program a "set list" of different tempos, but they will not switch automatically. You can have many different tempo settings, but you cannot program a click to change tempos when you reach a certain point in a song.

agree with the final conclusion: it is easy to set up with the app and get started, but it is difficult to play with. I feel lost with the soundbrenner during a song. it is much easier for me to follow a sound. i was hoping that following the vibration would be easier than listening to a beat, but it is not (at all). note: i am playing guitar with the soundbrenner. i have my writst and ankle, but still can't follow the beat from the soundbrenner.
