I empathize with you about the bitter cold man. We have been breaking records here. Its gotten so cold that we've been mixing heat tape in with the feed rations. Once its in the cattle, we just plug them in at night. We have to be careful though. Neighbor Ned accidently plugged his into 220 instead of 110 and he made BBQ from the inside out.

Wow great set up for calves. I’m impressed with how sheltered and cozy the barns are. Water in winter is always an issue. Squeaky boots in the snow is my favourite sound. I find it really satisfying watching cattle being fed, fresh clean bedding being put out and calves being born. Thanks for sharing your day with us. 🇨🇦

I can’t tell you guys how much I enjoy your videos. We use those big tires for water troughs with a float in the middle and three pipe in a triangle to protect it and a drain. They are the bees knees! Now the exhaust trick to thaw out stuff? Genius! It was touch and go 10 days ago but it is 75 today in my part of the lone star state! Old timers here say if you have more heifers then bull calves it’s going to be a wet year! Let’s see how that plays out. It is usually spot on here.

Seen a few boys from Ireland using these sensors but as far as I have seen it's all dairy farmers using it, you guys are the first beef farmers I have seen with it

An uncle of mine has been using it on sucklers for about 5 years now. Very happy with it. He does a bit of off farm work and later inthe calving season as numbers calving per day slows down if he's working away he has great comfort from the sensor. Plenty of warning if he needs to get back to the yard for a cow claving.

In my experience, with my dogs, at about day 25-28 of being in heat is when she will show she is ready and she will flag the male. I have always known when mine have ‘taken’ when they get stuck. Then I count out about 60-63 days to know when she will be having her pups. Good luck with Ellie

My family raised Scottish Highlander cattle before and they are ultra-cold hardy cows. No need for bedding, no need for barns of sheds. -20 degrees is nothing for them to handle. We had them in the blizzard of 1993, we had 40-50 inches of snow and blowing wind. Had all other cattle in the barn, even most of the Highlanders but the one cow would not come in....the next morning my dad and I came out to feed the cattle and Doris the cow that didn't want to come in was running around in the 3-4 feet of snow.
