What if my 3rd criterion is a single selection from a drop down list instead of another full range of data like "Genre"? How would this formula be created? Would it still be a SUMIFS function or something else? P.S. I am trying to figure this out for a real application. I am trying to sum values of different trading accounts by account type. I am not able to list a single cell with the account type in quotes. For example... "Trading" or "Roth IRA"

Great explanation. I noticed your range references are based on something like Table1[column] instead of, eg, D2:D25. Do you have a video that explains how that is set up?

Select the range, and turn them into a table by clicking on "Format as Table". The next time you select the range, it will appear as you described.

"The Criteria_range argument must contain the same number of rows and columns as the Sum_range argument." this was in the microsoft support page, so must this always be true but does that limit in anyway the sumifs function? cant we just always drag to match our cell range even if its empty cells.
