The problem that the iPhone 2G encountered after the front-facing drop test is actually the exact same problem that I have with my iPhone 5C, but the the decrease button has the problem. It sometimes gets a little tricky and I don't hear the clicking sound it makes when I press it. The other volume rocker works fine.

iPhone 5s. Ive had one for about a year, used by my Dad until he got the 7. I dropped it moderately, always with a case. About 6 months in with having the 5s I accidentally spilled a full cup of Apple Juice onto the phone, holding it screen up. Still worked but it was glitchy. About 6 months later, I drop it about waist height (I'm 5'3) with case and it landed face up with a SE case. That thing shattered like you smashed it from the Eiffel Tower. The next day we bring it to a apple store to get it repaired, it gets sent it, but can't get repaired because of water damage. We decided to go to Verizon and try to get a new one after discussing to Apple about replacements etc. When we get there, the whole glass bottom, you could see the metal and internals and even the home button stopped working. Honestly, it hurt to see the iPhone in that condtion. Luckily I got the iPhone 7 after that :)

Uhm, you all need to go back to school and get an education. 1) Diamond is THE Hardest substance around, second only to a synthetic diamond material being developed and 2) Diamonds WILL shatter against the same object the diamond would otherwise be able to cut in to. Now think in the context of these drop test / screen cracking videos. The glass portion is incredibly thin, a diamond layer that incredibly thin would also be incredibly tough and completely scratch resistant against anything rubbing on it. But drop a diamond that thin and it would shatter that much more easily than a large diamond you would see on a ring for example. Also consider the weight of the device bearing down on the screen and the additional weight of the inertia of the drop. Your pretty diamond screen would be history.
