Are you sure that's an Exynos 980? I'm pretty sure all the US versions of this phone have a 765G processor in it. It's the A51 5G that has the Exynos 980 in the US.

I have the A71 4G and don't really see much difference between it and the 5G especially at a 200 price increase. I'd have to see some real increase between the 4g and 5g before spending that much money. I'd have to see some comparison between the 4g and 5g.

@@Restrictted they both have 6gb of real. I've seen video >comparing the A71 4 and 5g and the speed difference between the 2 is so minor is be ok with the 4g The 5g is only a split second faster.

It's nice that Consumers have choices, especially for 5G Devices that are not $1000 .... but I don't see Carriers forcing Consumers to make the switch to 5G until at least 2023.

@@Richardclarkson7819 I don't think 5G is anywhere near to being fully optimized, so it's not a big deal in most places. Most people are paying to have it in the future or simply because it comes with the phone. 🤷🏿‍♂️ My phone has it, but the phone simply came with it. I can't use it for 5G, but I knew that going in.

The unlocked A71 5G will most likely have the Exynos 980. If you want the Snapdragon, you'll probably have to get it from Verizon. If you still want a Snapdragon and save a bit of money, you could get the 4G variant, which has a Snapdragon 730.

The US unlocked version has the Snapdragon 765G. I know this because I'm replying from one.

@@Benin-sy1zw I bought mine from Amazon two weeks ago, just before the pre-release announcement for the S20 FE 5G. While the timing pissed me off a bit, as I mentioned elsewhere, I like that the A71 5G has a headphone jack. As for the chipset selection, I believe there is an unlocked international version of the A71 5G with the Exynos, but so far Amazon is only offering the unlocked US version with the 765G; I didn't see any reference to an Exynos-based variant.

Well, finally bit the bullet and the T-Mobile version of the A71 5G from Samsung directly for $375. I had nothing to trade in a or that I wanted to trade in or it would have been less. In California in a T-Mobile store it's going for $600. $647 with sales tax. But really, for all the stuff the A71 does NOT have; like better screen glass and water resistance, it shouldn't be anything more than $500 in a carrier store. Anyway, besides saving the money, if it doesn't work out, it'll give me a good feel for how it would be to have the LG V60. If I got that I would get the dual screen version, as its only $50 more than the single screen, but I would probably only use the single screen out of the dual screen case anyway and the A71 is only 7 mm shorter and 2 mm less wide. If I got the v60 I would have to get it from the carrier, so I could make payments, and if I didn't like the size of it returning it is a minor hassle, not to mention the $50 restocking fee they would keep. The stupid security attachments they have to the phones in the stores don't allow you to pick them up and really get a feel how they would feel in your hand. So dumb they don't have a provision so the customer can get a real feel of the phone

This isn't a dis about top-tier Devices, this is Consumer choices globally (mid-tier Devices seem to offer up everything you need at the right price). Most Consumers are No Contract (they choose to pre pay monthly). It's just the Samsung Galaxy A71 5G is practically a top-tier Device for half the price. I think the issue is going to be that Samsung just released the S20 FE for $699, but there are sales for $599. The FE has much better specs for the same price or $100 more depending on where you buy it from.

I'd choose the A51 over the A71 due to price + the specs, but it's great that Samsung is giving Consumers choices (and more or purchasing the A51 & A71 then the Note 10's and S20's - because of the prices). This is coming from a Motorola guy.

Not sure if they still do, but Amazon had the unlocked A71 5g (US version with Snapdragon 765G, not the maligned Exynos 980 variant) priced at $499.99. I didn't care about the 5g, but I did buy one about two weeks ago. Other than some connectivity issues that concern me, I'm pretty happy with the phone. Except for the fact the Galaxy S20 FE is now available unlocked on Amazon for just $100 more. Ah well, I've got a headphone jack :)
