Huawei Nova 9 | Unboxing & Full Tour

Unboxing the Huawei Nova 9, a mid-range smartphone boasting impressive pro camera tech, but hampered with a lack of Google Services. Here's my hands-on review of the Huawei Nova 9 optics, gaming prowess, media chops and other bits. Here in the UK you'll have to import, but is it worth it?
That camera is the main reason to snaffle this phone, offering impressive photo and video results to rival the Pixel 5a and other mid-rangers. You also get a gorgeous curved OLED screen, respectable gaming performance from the Snapdragon 778G smarts, and 66W fast charge support.
However, Android fans will be perturbed by the lack of Google Play action for downloading apps. Instead of Android you have Emotion UI, which as far as I can tell is basically Harmony OS these days. Likewise, the Huawei Nova 9 doesn't offer 5G connectivity, unlike most mid-range smartphones in 2021.
So, is this mobile worth a punt? That depends on how bad you want the camera, and how reliant you are on Google Services.

Buy a refurbished p40 pro. Fucking good camera at a cheap price + 90% apps work just fine and you can use gspace for the other apps that don't work.

Bought the Nova 9 recently, upgraded from P20 pro.Although transfering some information between the phones was a bit of hassle it's worth it, great phone especially when you find it barely used at bargain price. Really smooth nice ui, great redesign of system apps coming from EMUI 10, very good camera too, really like the super fast charging, plus a charger in the box unlike certain companies.

I saw nova 9 today in my country. came here to see if can convince myself to buy it. BTW Still using nova2s and Honor V10 since 2018. Battery still lasts a day (wifi+network, no 4g) regarding 3700mah battery.

An impressive phone and definately something I'd consider if it was in the UK. Not bothered by google service can life without it. No 5g a bit of a downer, but as I live at the back end of nowhere & getting a reliable 3g single requires you to climb a hill then shimmy up a flag pole it's not really an issue.

I have a p40, at first i was bothered because there was no maps and i really need one, imagine ordering on grab and you cant track your order or being on a place youre not familiar with and you phone cant help you, but the recent updates introduced navigation to HMS so i dont miss the GMS anymore aside from games that you cant open or games where you cant purchase anything bcos of the lack of GMS. But when it comes to E-wallets or online shopping apps i havent encountered any when it comes to online payments

On a personal note I had the honor 9x global version and I really loved that phone but had to upgrade to the redmi note 10 pro%max because the lack of software updates still running emui 10 with Android 10 a real shame it was a great phone did what I wanted and plus not sure on future updates

It sounds like we are completely dependent on Google. A corporation that can control and determine everything? That just doesn't sound good to me. I have the Nova 9 and there are good alternatives for many programs that I would not have discovered otherwise. Sometimes you have to convince lazy Google users to try such an alternative. But it takes a slightly revolutionary spirit to pull something like this off.

I'm not sure it's 'lazy' to choose a phone where you don't need to look for ways to make your favourite apps work. It's just not an option for lots of people. It's a shame because the Android world would be a better place with Huawei in it.

It is weird for me to love the novel 9 from video then I saw it in real life and be like is not that grade and 1 week later sawing it again and I was like ok this is much better emotion when I see it and touch the phone in the same store the same place. I know I can use Gspace for google service but u don't know how much better until u verify it cuz ppl on the internet talk to much about it like u can't log on X or Y but for other KZbinrs work (?) probably it's because the period of time when the video went out. But in my country, the phone is almost expensive as if I put 70$ I get a Vivo x60 on sale on even s21 5g on sale. At the moment it has the same price as Reno 6 and Reno 6 is free google and so on even if it has a better CPU than Reno 6 I would still take Reno 6 probably.
