The NType Serif font was brought in for internal branding and has somehow crept into the OS. It goes completely against the original Nothing aesthetic

I didn't like the dot matrix shenanigans myself. It was a design choice that didn't necessarily worked across the various items. Forcing it in everywhere felt forced and pointless. The widgets don't gain from it either.

The dots font legibility is not good. is a cool font, but it's not functional. I understand why, from a design standpoint, they went toward a cool serif font now. I ma digging the changes for now. Looking forward for the new gallery app.

The thing is that serif fonts don't usually go well as display fonts, unless it's for a wedding or some elegant themes. The use of the serif font here makes it feel antique to me, personally, which again doesn't go well with the aesthetic of the hardware, with all the internal components and lights visible on the back. At least they are allowing the change to a sans serif font. I would also accept if they use a slab serif.

i hope they finally removed the annoying bug (at least on phone 1) of taking pictures with the camera app, and if you don't wait for 1-2 seconds (even after the pic has been taken) it won't actually save. and maybe even longer if HDR is on

I wasnt a fan of the dot matrix font. Looked a little too artsy and edgy, reminds me of the Tate Modern, and clashes with everything else a little too much. The Serif font is still a pretty bold choice that gives it a slightly retro yet premium feel.

Removing the so called "dot matrix" font is a weird one. It's one of the "defining characteristics" of the "nothing" phone, some people might have even bought these devices for their style... and that style is being deprecated... not cool. The screen recording feature is literally Android built-in, I have the very same screen recorder already on OnePlus8t and Pixel 7a...

I love how Nothing cares about their customer experience and customization rather than adding tons of AI features (some were quite a duplicate since we already got Gemini). It's unfortunate that they get rid of their dot-matrix font which is their signature, but I understand bc accessibility wise it's not easily readable.

Shit, I just bought a Nothing and a chunk of it was for the aesthetic of the dot matrix and NOW YOU ARE TELLING ME THEY ARE PLANNING TO GET RID OF IT!? Naaaaaw, it's a Beta, they will maintain it as an option, and I am all for multiple options to tailor the phone to the owner when it comes to customization. i just got the CMF phone 1, don't regret it. Yes I could probably get an android phone with a slightly better cpu, gpu and camera for the money. But it would look like shit, the OS would look like shit and I would have ads everywhere. Needed a budget phone and I got a very slick one that does the job without offending my aesthetic.

For what it's worth I completely agree with the changes around the dot font, keeping the matrix itself in the OS in animations but moving to a more legible, less abstract typeface is just better for usability. The phones still look and feel unique, and I like the UI a lot more this way as well even though I was a big fan of it.

Agreed, Nothing can't just go on and slam the dot matrix everywhere as that's there signature font. It still stand out and I believe if the ppl are a fan of it's usability and clean OS and performance one won't judge it just because they removed the Dot font. For a reason apple has good consumer base and loyal customers as they stick to apple no matter how small the changes are. We should appreciate nothing for giving us so good performance and be supportive towards them not to forget how they also take into account the customer feedback .
