Back in 2001, a 5GB HDD for the size was pretty good, especially for the price.

I remember my first experience with this 1g iPod back in 2001...it was unlike anything I've ever used, the idea of having your entire music library in such a small and user friendly device was a total breakthrough for the time.

Lets do an inflation calculation! $399 back in the year 2001(iPods initial release) is equivalent to $538.55 in the year 2015

@Rodolfsk8 A buffer is designed to prevent jerky play-back when streaming content by detecting how much it needs to download in advance in order to maintain a smooth play-back. I had a portable CD player I took to the gym in 2001 that only had 20-30 sec of buffering and that was a big selling point. Without the buffering if you were moving the music would be herky jerky. At that time 20 minutes was unheard of.

And now through music streaming, almost anyone with Internet is able to listen to almost every song ever created. Everything wirelessly. That’s some Star Trek type of shit

wow when you look at this now and all the things they were so excited about you think 'duh' it's amazing how far we've come and how these technologies have become so intagrated in our life that all this stuff that was so "far" out there ten years ago is second nature to us now!

In 2001 I was only 4 years old and I strongly remember my Dad buying this and me asking him "Dad what is this thing" he replied "this is going to change a lot of things"......Look how far we have come in terms.

Thanks for sharing this video! I can't believe he said "design flaw"; he was misinformed back in 2001. Part of the reason it was designed on the top is due to SJ revealing the new iPod from his jean pocket. He also added Apple's slogan: "1,000 songs in your pocket.". Who wants that jack sticking on the side of their pocket? Obviously, cases would be designed for the shape of iPod.

I was in high school when this came out. I had a cheaper MP3 player, but still... Not having to have my discman with me, and having to pick out a CD in the morning before I went to school. Some of my friends would bring a small CD organizer in their backpack and change out CDs throughout the day. Haha brings back memories

@uri0316 I think that's a sign on how times have changed. Back then, apparently, it was really common to have a headphone jack on the side of your portable music player. Now many players and phones have it either on the bottom or top. And I actually think that's how it should be. Because, a headphone jack hitting your crotch isn't fun.

Hey sorry I'm a little late, past two years have been rough with the pandemic and all... Well anyways Steve Job died, they got an Apple Watch now. Rumors of them getting invested into making some sort of Apple Car maybe? Who knows? There's also the Apple TV. It has like KZbin and TV shows on it, games too and Fitness! The iPhone ends up getting three cameras on the back and has a weird notch design. The new M1 chip was announced recently. Oh and Airpods! They're like earbuds but truly wireless!
