The comment "youtubers are just lazy and want to be popular" actually translates to I work a hard 40 hours per week and can barely afford rent. I'm jealous and I think everyone should be in the same boat as me.

You are an inspiration to many. I will add more reasons why this is a win. 1. Does not need to travel to go to your office. 2. You can sleep to your own liking. 3. You can take a break anytime you want. 4. Your connection with various people will grow. 5. You will learn a lot, not only about tech but about life in general, with many interactions with various people.

Good on you Lucy. I've just clocked over 50 and have been in tech all my career (currently an AWS Ambassador with an AWS partner). The options now are massive. When I was in my early 20s, I took a job in the States. I see what you're doing as this generation's version of that. Try something new while you're young. If it doesn't work out, then go back to corporate. If it does work and you love it ... fantastic!

Your knowledge and expertise in cloud technology is a valuable asset, and it is not diminished simply because you are no longer working at a particular job. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to develop and maintain expertise in any field, and your efforts should be recognized and appreciated. It is unfortunate that some people may not fully understand or appreciate your skills and experiences, but it is important to remember that their lack of understanding does not reflect your worth or capability. It is understandable that at certain points in one's career, the desire to pursue other opportunities or to work in a less demanding environment may arise. It is important to prioritize one's own well-being and career goals, and it is admirable to have the courage to pursue new ventures or opportunities. You have my support and encouragement in following your passions and pursuing your goals.

As a GenX'er it got really old hearing from prior generations that you had to find a job, any job, and ride it out till death do you part. Most of my generation are primarily retail laborers and retail management because the barrier for entry was low and 20 years ago it paid decent without needing to dump $ on higher education. Enter the tech boom that has enabled some of my generation and later to gain desired skills comparatively on the cheap and in demand. Sadly, 40-50 somethings currently bought the schtick from the older gens that you were lesser if you moved from job to job. what tech has enabled is exactly what Gary V said. later gens to have some flexibility to work a job they like and that pay well. i worked retail 3rd shift for 25 years and a daytime tech job for the last 8 of those years. I kick myself for staying in retail as long as I did and not trusting my skillset to thrive in tech. Absolutely stoked for those that realize their potential and go for it. -- Will totally sub, Cheers Fam, and GL

Hi Lucy. Good on you for choosing what you love. If I can offer a suggestion for your channel, it would be to see more "Tech" related content. I've found that the majority of your videos are more related to "Getting a job in AWS/Cloud" "Salaries at AWS". Whilst these topics are great and are useful for a wide range of people out there, they seem to be getting repeated in newer videos. I noticed that there is little Technology related content in the channel. One example for a video I would love to see are some of the technical and business outcomes you may have helped achieve for some of your customers (anonymised of course).

Hey what's up Lucy! Thank you for your transparency in this video! It's important that people know that what YOU choose to do for a living and how you live your life is your decision. Negative comments are never helpful and don't offer any value to a conversation. Now comments in the form of constructive criticism are okay as long as you're not attacking anyone or judging anyone! I personally feel like you're a person who is not afraid to do what makes you happy and sometimes I just think the "Haters" out here are afraid to do just that and harbor resentment towards those who take a chance and are able to succeed!! So I say congrats and job well done! Keep bringing us your awesome content and continue to help people like me who are starting out in cloud, gain knowledge and succeed! Be well, be safe, Cheers and Happy New Year!!!

Remember, a 'Solutions Architect' is a salesperson. Getting PHB to sign on the dotted line after promising the world is all they do. But with the tightening of money, businesses aren't going to play fast and loose with their infrastructure. Cloud was only a stopgap; edge is the next cloud... as long as you can get the bandwidth (but that's a whole 'nutha Oprah).

Then when my confidence grew, I started making KZbin videos. No need to worry about leaving 9-5 job just yet. It sort of just comes naturally once your side hustle grows to a certain size. I also know a lot of people who have more subscribers than me, and are still working their jobs. You can do both! Anyways wishing you the best of luck! 😊

Great video Lucy! So for me, as a supporter and admirer of yours, i too was 'disappointed' that you quit your job at AWS. For me personally, you working there made you the perfect online personality to follow as you had the combination of the right personality, smarts and being an Amazon 'insider'. And even though you mention expanding your channel and with that expanding your ability to help others, this does seem to be largely a money chase from my outside view but i can't say i blame you cause i'd do the same thing if i thought i could :) It just so happens that i don't have anything to put online that i'd get paid for :) But i understand money is going to be a huge motivator in life for many (including myself) and people will just have to respect your decision. If that means they 'move on' from you then, that's their call. For me, i think it's still cool to follow you as your videos are awesome as are you. So while i completely get those that are 'irritated' that you quit your job, I also understand that your opinion is the only one that matters : )

Thanks for sharing your view on this :) Videos on my channel are completely free to watch, because my income comes from brand sponsorships & KZbin ad revenue. Yes, I’m earning more money by doing KZbin full-time, but I love that I don’t have to take money from students. A lot of people can’t afford paid education, so I really want to provide more free content for the community.

@@TechwithLucy Thanks for the write back Lucy. That's all great stuff for those of us who need all the help we can get free of charge : ) Also, you can tell that you're becoming a big deal cause you got so many of us getting all emotional about YOUR career choices lol. Now THAT'S love :) People have to A. know about you and B. care about you present and represent in order for them to even get mad or sad about anything you do ! Like i could quite my job tomorrow and go live under a bridge and i'm pretty sure the world wouldn't notice : ) So sure for some of us, that powerful / perfect combo of you being an insider AND having great vids is gone but please keep up all the good stuff and for those of us disappointed you quit, we can just pretend you still work there :) 😊

Awesome video! I do have a question for you. Before starting or even while creating a youtube video, do you ever get imposter syndrome? I want to start a youtube channel and also want to help release tutorial videos on AWS but imposter syndrome is stopping me from starting. Thoughts?

Absolutely totally agree with you Lucy. Personally I think social media is a trove of keyboard warrior netsayer who take any opportunity to trod on others success. I worked in IT since 1992 and around the time AWS was starting( little dud I know) I left to pursue a career in offshore commercial diving, which I thoroughly enjoyed and also don't regret. And now I'm back in IT and trying to get my head around the Cloud revolution that happened, broadly I'm finding employment and employers welcome me. But in IT we have to constantly stay ahead so I really really appreciate your videos. . Keep up the good work !!! Also as you mentioned you have more options than ever and can travel the world with your skills !! Just one question... do you or are you familiar with Azure? Google CC? Could you do videos on them too? Regards Jason

For those who don't understand, it's not about hard work, it's about making the most out of the time you have. This is a culture evolution, where new generations step out of their comfort zone and do much more thinking for themselves, as opposed to following the norm blindly. If there's anything we humans need to learn more this day and age, it's to be less judgy of others.

People have a very twisted view on life and work. Many people seem to believe you should work your life away, no matter how much it sucks, in fact they think it should suck. "If it doesn't suck and take most of your life then you're doing it wrong" kind of view they carry. You know what happens when you take that path? All that money is going to be spent on pharmaceuticals, doctor visits, and so on because now you're very old. You decided to spend the good years of your life making someone elses dream come true (in this scenario).
