its Gen Z. Let me explain. These children were introduced into PC gaming during the lockdown. These children finessed their parents into buying a gaming computer for the lock down, that would DOUBLE as computer for their school. Anyways, these people were finessed and hoodwinked and over paid for their PC, so subsequently they over value, and over price hardware. Couple that with the fact that Gen Z are low iq, you have a recipe for the market to get really dumbed down.

@@EhEhEhEINSTEIN Because they saw what others are pricing them at. The important thing is to constantly see what those items are doing. How long and did the price change over time. A lot of this stuff will age out (like your example) and they could ultimately end up in a landfill. Better to get something now instead of waiting forever and getting nothing. But, a lot of people think "I don't do this for a living. I'm not concerned about a fast turnover".

All good points you made, but one thing I think is a big factor is that the usual medium which attracts people to buying expensive rigs is... triple A gaming. And right now that is in a mess. Even for the few good triple A games which push a modern graphics card hard.... so many people are sick of lazy open world cash grabs, DLCs, expansion packs, battle passes, etc that less people are upgrading. And when it comes right down to it, games, will only ever be games, aka low priority luxuries... unless you're a esports professional getting paid hundreds of thousands of $ to game each year, but those type of people aren't going to be looking about in the used market for gaming rigs.

I sell PCs and other hardware but at a much slower pace. The only thing people are interested in is stuff they can flip for profit. Talk about dog eat dog. But, what I used to do is buy broken Gaming PC for pennies on the dollar, troubleshoot the problem, upgrade, then resell them. The market for broken PCs has been virtually non-existent for a while.

Here in Caucasus region things are looking hella grim. Prices went high, we have deficit of PC hardware, but people want to buy PCs for even cheaper than what they were in 2023. So if a PC cost $800, people want it for $700 now, but because of the economy and what not it's difficult to even build a PC like that for $900 now. In February of 2023 I sold 5 PCs. In February of 2024 I haven't been able to sell anything yet. I'm even selling them at a much less profit. Also, I've been getting offered mostly Playstations and sometimes Laptops for trade recently.

The used market where I live in the UK is quite frankly hilarious. People are still trying to sell i7-2600 based PC with a low end graphics card as 'capable of playing all modern games'. Same situation here in the US. I believe for three reasons which has helped my sales. 1.) I've always lived in a por area. So, I never try to sell above $300. So, my PCs and parts are never above $300. I'm always trying to aim around 1080p to 720p 60fps for people with televisions. This inflation which is awfiul cause I along with many others literally are out of jobs and nobody is hiring anywhere. Really bad situation over here. So inflation is at least one major fault. 2.) Higher prices on tech parts. One thing that has been the death of builds and hardest for everyone has been cases, power supplies, and high end/newer parts(GPUs, CPUs, and motherboards). I'm happy ram and SSDs which you even predicted at one point would be cheaper and are the cheapest parts to get for builds thankfully. But other than ram and storage, everything shot up in prices. Nothing has been the same in building and selling since before Covid. 3.) Steam Deck! It's both a beauty and a curse! Steam Decks sell. People want to play games and majority don't care how good it needs to look. They don't even want RGB most times. Although it does get attention faster, RGB still doesn't sell it any faster. At least in my area. I know people trying to sell higher end units are having a hard time. But, I literally get "Can this run games like a Steam Deck?" so many times. I don't hate it cause I am both a Windows and a Linux user. I have helped sell over 15 units being prebuilts these two months with Xeons or Optiplexes with Linux or heavily modified Windows(to be light) paired with GTX 960 4gbs, GTX 1050tis, RX 560 4gbs, RX470s, RX480s, RX570s, and RX580s. These are always booting into Steam's newer "Big Picture Mode" with titles saying *Steam Deck like Gaming PC*. And these sell! And we make sure they aren't bad either with some cheap remote controlled RGB strips inside with all having 12gb to 16gb of ram and SSDs all at or under $300. This is what my three reasons are. These have helped people like me and my area that despite living in the US. I still come from a poorer area. So, the Steam Deck and it's sales are what sell now. Thanks to it. Sales have been better for the $120 to $200 price ranged prebuilts. Some $300 if they want newer parts. But others including my own PC do to my unemployment can't even sell my 1st Gen Ryzen build in it's nicer case with RGB and can't sell for aroumd $350 and up. Cause I then get, "Well! A Steam Deck is cheaper!" which I know. Cause I help my also unemployed buddy who is without his IT job due to be letting go. He just happened to have prebuilts from his last place cause they let go of those units. This is even a major corporation as well and not the only one. So, here from me. Sell prebuilts fixed up to be nice and play like "Steam Decks". Now on the other hand and a side track off. I have been..hired security..as well. Crime has shot up rapidly cause people are without jobs. I usually can be contracted out in my local area from the civil services in my local area due to how quickly it can turn. In January, I got that call, and many vets/NCOs have gotten that call. Protected my buddy as well. Nothing bad happened in sales. But after selling one unit recently. A shootout happened and a young officier was holding up the mam who was doing it. Luckily, I came along literally after selling the unit in the same paring lot. The officier and I calmed this man who was just trying to get money for basic gas and groceries. My buddy knew this man. So be safe out there everybody. And sell with caution. And try to sell "Steam Deck" like units. That will help more. Hope everybody only has good days ahead.

That is very interesting to hear about the steam decks. I'm just coming back into the PC building/flipping scene after 4 years and its very strange how the market and trends have changed. I live in Auckland, New Zealand and I don't think the steam decks have become popular here yet but I will keep my eyes out. Our PC market is still dying especially as NZ is officially in a recession now. I agree that nowadays Cheaper you can price a system, the more interest its getting, even if its not very pretty. People just need something that can play everything but doesn't take months to save for and normally that leaves them with only a few hundred dollar budget. Not alot of people have even half a grand budget like they would of a few years back.

@@Sk0dieHey? If in New Zealand, you find a way to buy very low cost parts to build good enough Linux PCs. Minimal being 12gb Ram(still try dual channel). Older i5 or 4core/4threaded CPUs mainly from Intel. Cheap Sata SSDs. RX 460 to RX 560 from 2gb to 4gb. These specs at minimal can still do 900p 40fps to 720p 52fps for games like Cyberpunk 2077. I know it IS super ultra budget low end PC parts. Yet, with mainly Chimera OS and HoloISO, each game can be default set to 720p. And I'm selling to customers from video game consoles like the Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch who can't pay for the games or want to play newer games on there same cheap 720p to 1080p televisions they get from major retailers under $100. And when each customer who bought our half priced Steam Deck like PCs around the $120 to $150 US. And by the time they get a cheap wireless controller. They have the same as a price as a Steam Deck. Instead it's on there televisions they *already own*. I have currently have had zero returns. Yes. 0 Returns. In fact, sellers being half kids and parents and half college kis share how they look up to see the Steam Deck settings for stuff. Steam Deck settings play the game similar enough. And they all play lower end games. Almost none of them are playing Cyberpunk. It's all retro games with EmuDeck and indie games. Cause they are cheaper or free, and they are happy they use the same console controller they *already own*. They tell us the "Steam Console" is very fun and convenient. And cheap convenience sold at that point and time. And now, nothing is selling. And what I sold was super low buget which had little profit and only helped with stablity for a short while like $20 profit for each unit. And then I took only a couple hundred. I gave the rest to my buddy so he could get outta town and to somewhere hopefully better. Cause I'm stuck here with family who I always put first. So, if you wanna try. And you somehow managed to buy and sell at super low budget which helps you in any way. Go for it! Just understand your local market. Mine right now is an ever increasing unemployment and crime rate area. If New Zealand is in a recession, YET it isn't unsafe to go outside like I'm seeing for the Mr. Tech YES Man in Australia. More power to you. And if you get the chance and in end you make someone elses day. Then it's a good day. Hope you have a wonderful day. @@Sk0die If the market is schools, then aim your business at them. I have built over 100 units for my community college years and years ago. It helped me not have to pay for community college and helped me get a job too. Except that job was repair everything guy and the janitor XD. Still got paid and didn't pay anything for community college. And I still build computers for my mother's private school. I do not charge my mother. I just let them get there parts or extremely old machines. I don't really do to much other than help. However, I do build all my mother's computers. And, I always try to end up fixing units and laptops some child or teacher broke. Also, I built and donated a retro gaming unit with very low parts except with Batocera OS installed with roms from catridges and discs from games I've ripped over the years. My mother's students enjoy it and it helps when parents have to pick up there children which last for hours from where she is in the countryside. This time in specs for desktops and some laptops. You do not have to invest in high end GPUs. Just basic display adapters. HD 6450s, HD 7450s, HD 7470s, R5 430s, etc. Or if the units have i3 going up with iGPUs from the Intels HD2000 or up. Then you are fine to leave it. I've notice you'll need at least 8gb depending on the individual or customer. Then that's what you work with. Always get 120gb to 256gb SSDs. Always get SSDs. And CPUs can range from 2 cores to 4 cores. I just say to hopefully let them have 4 threads at all times. Intel CPUs are the best from Sandy Bridge(2nd gen) to Haswell(4th gen). And USB wifi and bluetooth adapters. Now ask about these though with teachers and staff. The teachers and staff might need Wifi. But that don't mean students might need them. These specs are ones you can install either a very debloated, customized Windows 10 or 11 OS. On Mr. Tech YES Man's channel here, he has tutorials on this. Or get a debloater program like from Chris Titus Tech. He has this great UI program that helps remove the Windows crap. Only thing I will definitely say unlike these guys to never uninstall on Windows is *"Windows Defender"*. This program is intensive, but it is very much needed in school, office, or business built PCs. These type of PCs need security. That is top priority. And lastly, depending on the customers. See if they want to invest in Windows 10 or 11 organization licenses. Yes, it cost more than an individual license. But they get benefits for owning many units under the same Microsoft business account they can give or remove licenses with access to Office suites and Windows programs on. And this is on there part to buy it or buy very cheap ones in bulk. Not yours. If by chances these schools have units already old enough units with Core2Duo or Core2Quad, 4gb DDR2 ram, and hard drives. Or they have low end AMD parts which old AMD is...well there something not good. Then see if they would want custom installs of Chrome OS. Investing in any other Linux OSs for schools seems nice. But the provided Google programs are extremely useful for teachers with students on a very, very tight budget. I don't know if Google can still have teacher accounts be set up as an administrator while she can have the other accounts be set up as student accounts. Cause if that child loses the unit or the unit just dies. Then the teacher can still access the student's data which was synced into the Google Drive in the student's account that the teacher's account has full access to at all times. If a school has these types of machines and are wanting to invest into Google's Chrome OS ecosystem. Then see if you can help them by buying the same cheap display adapters GPUs I showed(HD 6450s, etc.). Making sure they have 4gb ram for students to 6gb ram minimal for teachers. Always get SSDs. 60gb and up SSDs are good enough for only Chrome OS student units. Teacher units need 120gb and up SSDs. As for CPUs on Chrome OS, just make sure it is not 1core CPUs. Always 2core and up for Chrome OS devices. And now invest in cheap USB wifi/bluetooth adapters for each cause Chrome OS is an online based device and will not work well enough without them. Let teachers know this as well. My mother when starting her school out did this. And the young students were given "keys"(USB wifi dongles) as ways to get online and for my mother to monitor them. These are the types of units you will build or sell. Always sell cheap as well. Looking at $100 US best units going down to $10 for parts. Your not selling to gamers or enthusiasts wanting a relaxing or fun experience. Your sellling to schools with confidental info on little individuals and there families or friends who need to be only invested into safe and stable education machines. They expect you to not only deliver well enough once. But if a bunch of units start going down. They are expecting you to come back and fix them. And schools have money and usually government. And you want to tread carefully on these types of turf. Cause if you a student access to a machine and that young individual exposes themselvses to unchecked online activity. Oh boy! The amount of blame will start being pointed into every direction. And sense the builder of the machine who sold their machine to the school were the school gave access for the young individual to get on and see uncheck online activity. People WILL come to blame the builder of the unit. Even though it has nothing to do with the builder. Does NOT matter. Just making you understand the business you want to step into. They want to invest in a builder with low return rates and low selling prices with high end security and monitoring. You will have to find that balance. For me, I love my mother. But, I've had her, the principal, and her teachers aling with each parent sign a contract stating that I, the builder, am NOT involved in handling or delivering in any manner uncheck online activity to your child. The parent brought them to the school. The school HAS to provide the students with units capable of going online. And the builder and school are not responsible of any uncheck online activity. And if the student brings any device home from the school, then the parents or legal guardians are responsible for that uncheck online activity. As long as you know what you are doing. Then providing for schools in your area is a very worthwhile investment. Not only in sales. Or a potentially long term customers. But, an investment into education and future individuals who are and will continue to grow up in a technologically advanced world. Helping them navigate that by providing good and long term services towards educators will definitely wil a worth while investment. If you have the opportunity, then give it a chance. Might be worth it in the long run.

The situation is exactly the same in Sweden. My mom paid 16% interest in the 80s but housing prices have risen by hundreds if not a thousand percent while wages have maybe gone up by only 100-150%. And inflation numbers are bogus as we all now. True inflation has been way higher than the 9 per cent or whatever they claimed it was. Central banks all over the world screwed us over and they don’t even feel bad about it. Our central bank chief of the period claims he did the right thing considering the situation.

It's just hopeless for our generation, i can't even think what its like for people born post 2000 or 2010's. Unless you're way into middle class youre not gonna have your own home by the time you turn 18. Parents simply can't afford to set their kids up like before, unless they have a free 200k just laying around. My parents got a house bought for them by my grandparents as soon as they got married, for literally 10k in the early 90's. In a freaking middle of the city. Today you wouldn't get away without paying at least 100k. Sure population has doubled since then but prices rose 1000%. Wages rose maybe 2-3x. It's bullsht. I'm gonna have to take out a house loan and going to be paying that sht for 20-30 years at least. Less if you have a partner. But since everyones so materialistic these days, women won't even look at you if you don't own a home/car and got a decent job. Basically already all the hard work done, no one wants to build a life anymore, nor can you really trust not to get f'd by the laws. Break up and half of the sht if not more simply goes to them. More even if you have kids. So the only option is either rent like a fool or get a loan. Rent used to be low like 100-200 eu a month max, today its 350 for one goddamn room flat. 450-550 for 2 rooms. A loan of like 50k eur (it'll get you a decent 2 room place just outside of a city) is less than that per month. As soon as i'm inheriting a property, i'm renting that sht and use the $ to pay off the loan for another house and still have left over smh. It's a big joke.

I'm in the US as well in the southeast, and I put up a couple of i5 15in ASUS laptops that I had refurbished with new thermal paste, batteries, RAM upgrades, and SSD, and yep I was getting offers for an old ass Xbox 360, low ball cash offer that don't even cover my parts cost, and some idiot from the ghetto(based on their grammar) trying to scam dump a Hi-Point C9 9mm Pistol on both listings that's barely worth 90 bucks used if it's in like new condition. 😅 I gave up after about 2 weeks on offerup(I refuse to use Facebook), and just ended up giving one to a family member, and selling the other at a slight loss to a coworker who's grandkid needed it for college, and can't afford much else ATM. So yeah it's a buyers market right now, and for sure not a sellers market.

I'm having trouble moving anything right now where I'm at, but I haven't had anyone try to trade me an e-scooter. However, my nephew got one for Christmas and he loves the hell out of it. Anyways, I've had some weird ones lately. Had someone that wanted a cheaper system for their kid and everything was going good until they wanted to meet up. They asked where we could meet and I told them that people generally come here to buy them so they can test them out, but if you just want to meet up... that's fine too. After that, they never responded. The next day I asked if they were still interested and found out I was blocked. Only thing I can think of is that it was some kid pretending to be an adult and the parents found out and blocked me. And I've been say that we aren't living under captialism. Every time I see someone complaining, their complaints are always about crony capitalism. Then they say stupid crap like... they're the same thing, or that cronyism is just "late stage" capitalism. There's definitely no innovation and society has stalled. We used to build things and do cool things as a species. Either the people in control know what they're doing is going topple this house of cards and they don't care, or they're truly stupid. I don't think we we'll see a true correction without a horrific crash to wake people up. I can't completely blame the people in charge, because they people that vote for these people are just as much to blame.

PCs are luxury items and I agree with what many have posted here. Right now the squeeze is on for anyone not really well off and people are spending on the necessities and not luxuries. My 7 year old 1440p 144hz monitor died this weekend and I replaced it with a cheap LG 165hz 1080p screen with Freesync premium to hold over. After using it for couple of days now honestly it may be the daily driver for quite some time. Its good enough. Personally with several PCs at home between myself and the kids' I'm in full "replace something when it breaks" mode vs upgrading for fun. Also we will be delaying any non essential purchases for the foreseeable future. Things will probably get worse before they get better.

There are battery chemistries like Lithium Titanium Oxide that doesn't catch fire or Lithium Sulfur but they are more expensive or have less energy density. There are destructive test videos by Toshiba on their SCIB batteries that show this. The Japanese use these in the Shinkensen and for safe grid storage applications.

UK here. Had my best December ever, selling 20 PCs in total that month. I remember previous Januarys being slow so I listed only 2 PCs January 1st and figured I'd maybe sell those and then build another 1 or 2 if they went. Didn't get an ounce of interest until 1 February when 1 sold. 2 weeks go by and I'm only just starting to get interest in the second PC. I've snagged some bargains in the meantime but it's bad here. I know a lot of the other sellers nearby and they are struggling to sell even £50 PC bundles (monitor, keyboard and mouse thrown in). It's pretty bad.

I think that you also missed is what employers are now no longer offering their employees versus years ago in the way of various other compensation beneifts.Years ago many companies offered free or low cost insurance with very good coverage. Now, companies offer base insurance coverage with high deductibles that must be met before the insurance will cover anything. There were once company pension plans. Many place have reduced or no longer match employee contributions to 401K plans. This also cuts deeply into a person's available spending.Just me for example, 43% of my gross pay goes to cover various taxes, health & life insurances for me and the missus, and retirement savings plan.

The market here in germany (as far as I'm noticing) is just completely bonkers. On one hand, there's the usual scamming with "Gaming" PCs. Not just "private" sellers, even the biggest Chain(s) here sell something like a Ryzen 3 3200G with 8GB RAM and onboard GPU as Gaming PC for atm 379€. Getting used parts is also weird. Most of the time you can't just buy something you need, because you can only snipe good deals within hours of going online. The offerings that stay online are usually way too expensive to the point where it would eat up the entire profit margin (if you're selling at reasonable prices). But the absolute worst part is, that people's word means nothing anymore. Out of 10 people telling me they come to pick a PC up (or send the money), maybe 1 actually means it.

I always pay attention to the used market but just for personal use, not to flip them. All I find right now are amazing deals for really old stuff, or ridiculously high prices for anything newer. If you want to get into PC gaming on a budget you can do it for insanely cheap right now, but if you're looking for any kind of respectable performance there's a ton of clowns that want way too close to retail for used parts. Makes me think there's a lot of people buying up anything decent to flip it themselves because when you look at high priced sellers history they have dozens of overpriced listings for mediocre hardware.

I saw a few weeks of success in early February with the US tax return season, but now that it's slowed down I won't see much interest until the summer.

I hope this isn't what I think it is, but its looking that way. To 'curb' inflation, they cranked interest rates, which due to gov borrowing, isn't just crippling private sector. The payments required to now service the gigantic gov debt ballooned. Reports in China indicated they are already in deflation and can't put a brake on it. The only saving grace here long term might be a normalising of property pricing, but that's going to require a bubble bursting. Nobody normal can afford the mortgages as they are with higher rates. But if you see inflation falling now, its not inflation, its the economy. Add in 'net zero' policy and its a potential perfect storm. :/

I'm not a gamer, I just buy barebone SFF computers and sell them. The market collapsed about 4 months ago here in the Philippines. I just bought 2 6th gen SFFs, Dell Optiplex 3040 ($17.87) and an HP Prodesk 600 G3 ($16.05) in excellent condition. After refurbishing them it will be impossible to sell them and break even, I'll just use them around the house. Before that, I bought an HP EliteDesk 800 G4 barebone that I am using now, again it was $25.00, 8th gen.

I had the ssame issue, started spraypainting logos onto the case and they sell like hotcakes. Go online and get stickers for $5-10, pokemon, apex legends etc and people go nuts. I always anticipate a "lull" in the new year after the Holiday season but here in the States that usually turns around in the spring when peeps start getting their tax returns in April and May business starts to drastically pick back up here on my flips but this time I see some concerns as we head into tax return season by watching the auto market on brink of crashing and record repos and also the reports of record credit card defaults that hasnt hit the mainstream media yet so not feeling very opportunistic about a vibrant selling period this spring like usual but one facet that might counter a diminished outlook on economy financials is the BTC halving next month as I usually start selling gpus like crazy shortly after the BTC halving that happens every 4 years and it is usually like clockwork so much that I start scavenging the gpu market right after xmas looking for cheap deals on gpus and etc. to horde them until after the btc halving when profits sometimes reach 10x initial costs but def very uncertain marketplace trajectory ahead regarding used pcs

I have a lot of problems with sellers on FB marketplace in UK, especially for GPUs. Out of every 10 I message, only 3 or 4 actually respond, and then they want obscene prices, way above what they go for on eBay.
