ALL AMD, this is a particular combo that has been MUCH requested, and finally today that request will be fulfilled when I get my hands dirty building a $56 Used PC with specifically using only an AMD CPU and GPU. This all came about when I saw a bargain on a Phenom X2 945 Quad Core Processor (with a mobo and 4gb of ddr2 memory) and then with the said 4 core processor I was able to clock all the way up to 3.7ghz on a budget AM2+ Gigabyte Motherboard, then when further coupled with a 2900XT (well actually an R600 Engineering Sample (!) you have yourself one half decent gaming PC that can play Borderlands 2, oh and also CS:GO :p.
Also let me know what you think of the build in the comments section below!

If you live 1'000'000'000 seconds it is aproximately 31years. Bill Gates has 60 years so it is aproximately 2'000'000'000 seconds and he have ~80'000'000'000$ so he he earn in average 40$ / second he could buy this PC in 1.25 second of his life :D (yes I'm a bit bored)

This type of cheap builds is what makes me so eager to watch your videos, latest hardware are easy to find but not many could or would want to spend the money because technology hasn't made a big jump imo. Really appreciate you making the extra mile to find used PC parts and putting them up together. Actually I do the same, I just sold off my LGA1155 i5 system and building a first gen i5-750 system as in Singapore all Singaporean males have to serve National Service. Once again, do keep the bang for the buck videos coming !!! :)

I do a lot of PC dusting and cleaning. What i found is a great solution rather than those expensive cans. I have a large compressor that I use but the cheap way. Get a small brad nailer compressor and a 10 Gal air pig. The compressor removes most of the moisture. Then transfer to the air pig the dry air. Then use the air pig to blow out the PC. The compressor and the air pig both have water taps on the bottom to remove excess moisture. You can see if you have a problem with too much moister to use on a PC when you test it on paper and you see water drops. One fill of the air pig will clean about 12 PC's. So plenty of time to work the water out. You can buy special water eliminators but I haven't found it necessary and I'm at sea level on the Pacific coast. A low pressure regulator is necessary. 10-12psi 20psi max. You do not want to be blowing 100psi at a motherboard. That's enough to blow things off the board.

Before I built my updated rig I was on a that exact CPU with a GTX 8800 GTX and 4 gigs of DDR2 ram, it was an amazingly capable PC, I keep the 8800 on a wall just in memory of it's service. People forget now days a good build was about having a quality board to tie it all together, I had an M3N-HT deluxe back in the day and my power was endless.. Zip ties are sketchy, but contact over pressure. I can see em' losing tension and melting over some time however. Awesome video.
@SoftExo
@SoftExo 8 жыл бұрын
+K3NnY_G I did the same with my 8800 GT 512MB, bought in 2007. By 2013 that card still ran games like tomb raider and farcry 3, granted, not in DX11. I went as far as putting her for sale, having a buyer, and as we were setting up some final details, i backed out and got a negative rating as a buyer/seller there. Worth it.

+wally aviles well maybe Phenom II X4 and especially X6 users don`t have the need to upgrade, at least not to current AMD FX lineup. They just need to push some 20% overclock on the cpu and keep going. But still, you cannot completely disregard FX line. It has new instruction sets, faster memory support and some inner data path optimizations. In some professional applications and many new games 8 core FX will beat any Phenom 2 by a nice margin.

***** That`s weird. I have FX-8320 for 2 years now. Yeah i witnessed it has "only" the same performance or even lesser than Haswell based i5`s in 3D rendering for example, but everything else.... i just didn`t notice anything. And for last 12 months it`s not overclocked at all. I actually undervolted it for 0.1 V using global voltage offset. It had huge impact on temperatures and i reckon wattage is quite a bit lower. And it still hovers around i5 4460 general performance i guess. AMD really doesn`t get any love these days. I hope that changes with Zen.

Phenom II x4 series was really good, actually my favorite AMD family of processors, very good architecture. I still have Phenom II x4 955 OC-ed to 4GHz paired with Radeon HD 4890 Sapphire Vapor-X in my 2009 build and it is still very capable (only graphics card lacks driver support for newer operating systems like Win10 and no DX11), can't compare it with my current i7 4770k OC-ed to 4,2GHz and GTX780Ti but still great configuration indeed.

Bob McFlurry Yeah, it is. A Phenom II X4 is roughly equivalent to an equally-clocked Core 2 Quad. A 750 Ti would be just about perfect for that. A 2900XT is a 1st generation DX10 card. A Phenom II X4 is capable of feeding a much faster GPU.

Bob McFlurry www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1337?vs=1130 Considering the fact that the 750 Ti is faster in the majority of games, and uses a lot less power, I think it's definitely the smarter choice. You might pay an extra $20-30 for one on the used market, versus a 560 Ti. I used to own 2 560 Ti's, by the way.

So, it looks like you are still scrubbing to remove dried thermal paste on motherboard heatsinks. Did you try lighter fluid?

I would be careful with that zip tied down cpu coopler. Simply put, if I was building a pc on the cheap like this and then got a phenom 2, I would at least buy a 20$ cpu cooler with an amd bracket.
