it always amazed me how far ahead of its time tecmo super bowl was. it took developers years before they included basics like season modes, stat tracking and player licenses.

I was just playing TSB. It never gets old. I have even did multiple seasons and kept track of accumulative stats over multiple seasons. My best for sacks in a season is 96 by Philadelphias Reggie White. Beast

I have both. I have an affinity for Tecmo Super Bowl. It was the closest to actual football and a true multiplayer season mode. My Dad and I had many great games on that.

I managed to snag Tecmo Super Bowl for $1.00 4 or 5 years ago and it's been one of my favorite NES games ever since.

Damn I thought I got a steal when I found it for 12. Usually I see it for 25-30. I'm slowly buying back all the games I had as a kid. Haha.

Jason webb yeah I got stupidly lucky. At the time I didn’t even know Tecmo Bowl got a sequel and I mistook it for the original. Once I got home and did some research, thats when I found out that not only did I get the better game but I got it for an absolute steal.

Tecmo Bowl/Super Bowl are just the perfect games for when friends are around to have fun, they are easy to pick up and play and they just work no matter if you are a fan of the sport or not. A little while ago some friends were invited to host a video game tournament at a sports fair and they asked if they could borrow my copy of Tecmo Super Bowl for it, the tournament was the highlight of the sports fair.

Yeah they're so simple and thats whats amazing about them. I remember the first time i tried playing a madden game on the SNES i couldn't make heads or tails of what was going on.

Very good review, and as they say, make it only as long as it needs to be! Spot on. Tecmo Bowl holds a special place with me as it was one of our favourite games to play as brothers growing up. Thought it was cool that you mentioned the different players/teams strengths and weaknesses as one would assume that they would all be the same as in most sports game at the time. Very unique feature that wasn't even really necessary but all the more appreciated. Shame you didn't touch on Bo Jackson being the fastest player! Thought it a nice legacy for a career cut-short. The NES will do right by Bo ;) Good work, man!

I feel in love with Football and the 49ers because of this game Best football game ever !!! The key to Tecmo Bowl's greatness are the colors and especially the music which is probably the best ever for any game of that era or even today. The original is way better than the sequel

I also played a Tecmo Bowl that came out around 1995 for Sega Genesis that was good. It had a create player mode and you could play multiple schedules.

Good video! The original Tecmo Bowl remains one of my favorite games to play regardless of system. I played in a tournament in Omaha earlier this year and I'm looking to do it again next spring, and maybe hit one up in Des Moines as well. Great game that takes on a whole different dimension if you have a good understanding of the teams and how defenses work.

Tecmo super bowl was the first game that you could play a full season and it kept all the stats.

Listen now, I like the video because I love Tecmo and Super Tecmo. You said they edited the playbooks but that just means you can change a play. One of the huge differences of the two was you could change the positions of your offensive starters in Super Tecmo Bowl. You could put your best wide receiver as your punt returner. You could switch the routes that your wide outs could run. This is a major omission. I actually consider myself an elite Super Tecmo Bowl player. I will switch the routes that Jerry Rice and John Taylor run on that ass.

The one thing I didn’t like about tecmo super bowl was player two was at a big disadvantage because all the controls were inverted since you were going from right to left unlike player one and unlike playing against the cpu where you went from left to right. This game brings back a lot of memories.

Great memories! The only version of this game that I didn't LUST was the Playstation one. That's the one where they completely overhauled the gameplay and tried to "Maddenize" it, but kept the same perspective which didn't work when trying to judge whether receivers were open. That version single-handedly killed off the franchise. They should have just kept re-skinning Tecmo Super Bowl forever.

Ah Tecmo Bowl, I remember playing it quite a bit as a kid. More than I normally would for a sports game. :P Haha. I think I played the original a lot more than Super Bowl. Both are great games. Love the simplicity of them. Really easy to just pick up and play and have fun with it.

I play tecmo super bowl when it came out and still play tecmo super bowl to this day as for tecmo bowl it was the 12 football teams that made the playoffs that year as for tecmo Super Bowl the game is now a classic best football game ever made and ppl play tecmo super bowl all over the countries these days in tecmo tournaments quick note QB browns is Bernie kosar QB bills is Jim Kelly and QB Eagles is Randall Cunningham the only players not licensed in tecmo super bowl

Its totally fine, the game is so simple you need little to no knowledge of the sport. I literally learned how football was played as a kid because of this game.

The only thing i didnt like about original tecmo was NO FUMBLES!! only INTs and turnover on downs. Players were bigger since it wasnt 11 on 11.
