Tecsun R-9710 AM/FM/SW radio receiver outdoor test.

Tecsun R-9710 is a rare dual conversion (two-stage intermediate frequency) superheterodyne radio receiver. Other than the benefit of superhet, 8 dedicated crystal filters for each shortwave band is really worth it. Usually, only some high-end radio receiver using crystal as a bandpass filter. With such a design, this receiver performance is much better than other brands in its class.
FM stereo spatial sound separation is great, especially when using with the original Tecsun headphones. So many radios at this price range wouldn't give you a good high-fidelity sound quality. Both Medium Wave and Shortwave sensitivity and selectivity are superb. The ability to reject unwanted adjacent signal working as intended. Shortwave reception improves a lot when attached to the Tecsun clip-on long wire attached.
The plastic housing quality is good including the brushed aluminium tuning scale. It does come with a carrying pouch, AD/DC power adapter, battery charger, clip-on long wire antenna and stereo headphones. The housing is pink but I think it is awesome too since most of my shortwave receivers are black or grey.
The tuning scale printed in Chinese mixed with English. This batch could be initially for China market only due to MOU with Grundig, Germany. Thus, the tuning scale direction is going the opposite direction however, it is not an issue to me.

IC 1: Toshiba - TA2111F AM/FM 1 chip tuner ICs, which are designed for portable radios and 3V headphone radios (this is not a DSP chip).
IC 2: Sony - CXA1622MC Stereo Power Amplifier/Monaural BTL Power Amplifier

I’ve had one of these [ and the R-911] for a long time. For the price and size , it’s hard to beat. Reception is very good, it handles an external antenna very well, and is completely, Non-DSP-based ,true ANALOG. Batteries last a good long time. These are great for “ bug out bag”, Glove Box [car], as a second/spare radio. Perfect for a First radio, or kids. 📻🙂❗️

Dual conversion only ! It means: pure reception on SW without spures with higher sensitivity... and It shows basic approach of the manufacturer. Good radio, similar to professional... May be to add BFO for SSB on 455 khz... The crystals inside are a stable crystal generators for each SW band. They are not a filters... Good radio ... I say It again !!!

Will get the Tescun radio on the 4th of Jan and did go from digital tuning to analog because have found that digital skips over the weaker stations. My 37 year old Grundig G5 still works but practically picks up no SW where I live, to many mountains so hope it will do better.

Неплохой обзор, спасибо, но приёмник своими возможностями не впечатлил. Рекомендую попробовать приобрести XHDATA D-328. Намного более чувствительный аппарат и избирательность хорошая, а стоит в 1,5 раза дешевле. Не говоря о том что имеет штатный сменяемый аккумулятор BL-5C с возможностью зарядки непосредственно в приёмнике и МР3 проигрыватель.

Can we use 18650 or or any other rechargeable battery? If yes how we can charge them? Can we charge them with DC adaptor when those batteries are in radio? Does 97000DX comes with rechargeable batteries? How you charge them?

No. These use regular AA or rechargeable AA batteries. You can recharge them with solar power with a USB powered charger and a folding solar panel with USB ports.

I had bought R-9700DX earlier on. R-9710 is just a pocket-size radio for my bug out bag use as it is quite handy and with very good sensitivity.

R-9700DX, because of more SW frequencies coverage and much louder speaker. R-9710 is easy to fit in your pocket when carrying a much bigger radio is a burden. Both models are with the same performance (sensitivity and selectivity).
