UPDATE: I'll have a short video update on this, but the issue I thought I was seeing with low sensitivity on upper ranges of SW was due to a cable fault in an incoming coax line.

I've been looking for the video update but can't find it. Can you confirm the 2200x is sensitive on 22mhz up on both whip and external antenna. The radio is out this Monday.

From The SWLing post: “It’s usually hard to assess whether or not a sync detector helped with a particular dip in the signal or not, unless you have 2 samples of the same radio to record their output simultaneously and compare.”

Hi Dan. Great to see more and more videos from you emerging. I would make one suggestion. Film in landscape mode not portrait. I know this is the format for shorts but on a TV or in the cinema it looks very strange for long form storytelling. Sound is great.

Dan: Tecsun should look at the example of the sync circuit of the Sony ICF2010. It holds sync lock under exacting conditions. Also, AGC timing could be improved for SSB/CW. Keep up the good work with your excellent reviews. 73

And the Sony is all PLL. DSP bits and parts don't do Sync well so...

The only positive thing about this radio compared to the old one is that the backlight is completely turned off. Everything else is like in pl880. Was it worth cramming the 880 into a large solid case? I think not. All that was needed was to modify the old analog radio, switch to a new power supply, turn off the backlight, add sync as in pl660 and install a second speaker for stereo. That would be a good upgrade!

Thanks for all of your recent videos on the Tecsun S-2200x. Does the 2200x have a slow AGC setting? On my Grundig Sat 800 the sync works best on fading signals when using the slow AGC. It works even better than the sync on my Sony 2010.

There are now actual set AGC settings. The radio is either in full AGC, or can be put into manual AGC going from MAX to MIN (counterclockwise)

Thanks Dan that sync breaking up on the 11MHZ signal reminds of my Japan Radio 535D losing lock especially before it warmed up. I wonder whether if it behaves like 535 when listening to a program over a hour. 7/29/2024 is supposed to have a CME event according to NOAA …Dr Tamika Skov KZbin channel covers it. 11M has been dead on all my radios for a while now , so I hope the sun settles down by fall, my peak outdoor listening time. 73!

I have clarified -- what I originally thought was low sensitivity on CB band area was due to a cable fault from one of my loops...

@@dxace1 I had that problem in the past too…👍!

for cb band try just 3-4 m long wire connected at its external antenna & lower the telescopic ... thanks for the video

The 525 has a track tuned front end, consequently a much narrower RF bandwidth than the Tecsun, and less RF hash appears at the first mixer. The Tecsun just cannot compare with its wide band front end, as it is processing more noise along with the same signal.. It does not mean its deaf, this simply cannot be improved at that price point. More sensitivity would make things worse. You are expecting the impossible. Yes, Tecsun could "improve" the front end filtering, but at a very much greater purchase price. Thats why Tecsun has made these compromises, and highlights the difference between domestic and commercial equipment.

Hopefully there we'll be a firmware update. Weird though the external antenna jack not working on cb band.

Tecsun radios are not FW upgradeable, at least not without sending the radio all the way back to the factory or a service center that would do that, and no one does that.

Hi Did you mention on one of the videos about bit of audio coming through on closed squelch?
@dxace14 ай бұрын
Yes, this was an issue that Eton had with its short-lived Elite Satellit. Squelch fails to completely silence audio from the speaker

This S-2200x Will never beat the PL-660/680 on Sync or ECSS performance , Never !

The SYNC on the 660 is mediocre, at best. Better than the other Tecsuns? Yeah, but that's not much of a comparison.
@o00scorpion00o3 ай бұрын
SYNC on the 660 is far better than any DSP radio for sure however, ECSS works best and sounds best on the PL-660/680 vs any DSP radio out there.

@@o00scorpion00o Again, not comparing it to much. None of the SYNC on DSPs compare to the Lowe, Sony 2010, Grundig 800, and several Drake radios. Simple as that.
@o00scorpion00o3 ай бұрын
I suppose there's no point comparing to radios no longer in production though ? the Pl-660/680 are still in production and can be bought new still today.

@@o00scorpion00o Yeah, there is actually. Today's supposedly "superior' advances in technology, aren't (superior, that is). Which begs the question: why not? The truth is, after using excellent examples of SyncDetection in older radios, it's easy to see that none of the DSP attempts are worth a "tinker's damn" (there's an old phrase for ya!). This definitely includes the PL660. None are worth using.
