Thanks for this video dude, very concise and detailed. Helped me out with cleaning my carb. I went thorough the whole process just to find out that my problem was the spring controlling the idle. It was loose, so I just used a paperclip to tighten it up

@eskimosrpimp619 ..............You can check the air filter by running the engine for a minute without it and see if it makes a difference. I have had semi clean looking filters cause serious engine running problems(but its rare). Spark plug is always a good thing to check. If the gasoline is older than 2 months that could also cause a little rough running. As far as starting: the primer button my be dried up and you may need to pump it 5-10 times to get a 1 pull start.

@atoxx1 .........Yes it can. If it's leaking because the float is stuck open then you are flooding the engine.

@35buck ....Your idle circuit is clogged. The idle jet is on the side of the carb. Make sure it is cleaned out especially the pin hole in the tip. Also there is an idle passage on the Main Jet bolt that holds the bowl on the carb. It is also a pin hole, located at the top of the threads.

I have the same carb. you are rebuilding. I took it apart cleaned it out with carb cleaner and replaced the o rings on the emulsion tube and the needle and seat. The primer ball is weathered but works to start the engine. The problem is that I have to hold the primer ball in to keep it running or I can tighten the idle screw both of which makes the engine run at a high RPM. The engine is on a go cart so I need it to idle down. Thanks ahead of time for any help

@eskimosrpimp619 .............. stick a phillips screwdriver in the fuel line when you pull it off to stop the gas flow. Yep sounds like you need a card cleaning.

I bought a brand new carburetor and it starts and revs up but then dies after 2-3 seconds. Any tips, it has good compression and good, I did add fuel filter but that shouldn’t restrict it too much right?

***** at a gas station right around the corner from me they have 91 octane non-ethanol gas. Runs super good in ALL small engines.

sixtyfiveford they only have 91 octane. It usually costs around 40-50 cents more per gallon, but it is totally worth it. We use it in my go kart, lawn mowers, snowblowers...

On the squared base of the engine there will be a drain hole in both sides(under carb and opposite). It will either be a square head bolt or an internal allen. At 0:09 to 0.11 it's dead center in the video screen.

Remove the air filter/air filter housing and it's retaining bolts Remove the fuel line Remove the 2 bolts holding the carb onto the intake Slide it off while allowing the throttle linkage to stay on the engine.

I have an important Question if you can help me. I have the same engine except mine is the 6.5HP powersport model. I need to order a new carb but i can not find a carb that matches my model marked on motor. Mine says OHH65 spec number 717136 every carb I look at online starts out with H63 or 64 as first 2 numbers on carb model. I can not find any replacement carbs that say OHH65 replacement. Is there a number I'm overlooking or missing? I'd like to be able to order 1 as soon ad possible to get my sons Carter gocart back running. If you cld help I would really appreciate your time. PureRetics Your engine should be a OHH65-71713c or 71713d. If it's a 71713c your carb is part # 640025C. If your engine number is 71713d your carb part # is 640305. The ethanol in fuel is playing havok with these small engines and even with a new carb you will be back in the same position in a year. You can try the quick clean method. Hey! Where is the idle screw on these engines? Mine won't stay running unless I give it gas. I tightened/loosened (wasnt sure what way) the little nut on the throttle cable and it works but now the go kart moves without me giving it gas which is annoying

The idle speed screw is on the very top the carburetor. Look right above the primer bulb. It may be a torx screw.

You can't adjust them. You need to clean it.

Main carburetor butterfly is sticking open. Move the little lever on the top/towards back of carb back and forth to free it up.

Paul Evans Changing the gears or adding larger rear tires will give it higher overall speed. This will make it more sluggish to start though.

Acceleration is where you feel power and doing this won't make any difference in acceleration. The governor simply keeps the engine from over revving(red lining) but also helps it idle and not die while your sitting. You can adjust the governor to allow a higher engine rpm but you will only gain a miniscule amount of rpm/speed. If you go even slightly to high with engine rpm the motor will blow up and then you won't go anywhere. It is equivalent to an RPM limiter on a Race Car. These engines are rated to run at 3600rpm and are generally set to run at 3400-3600rpm to make it last a good long time. You can push it to 4000rpm by adjusting the governor but no higher. This will give you an extra 2mph faster top end speed (virtually unnoticeable).

+Borry Corona It takes regular gas. If the motor is seized it will be less work and probably the same amount of money to use a brand new engine. If you have a Harbor Freight Tools nearby a new engine (6.5hp 212cc) can be bought for around 100bucks. It will bolt right up and use the same pulley on the current motor. The only thing you'll need to configure is hooking up the throttle cable, which shouldn't take much effort.

Bearings all have numbers written on them. Pull the bearing off the other side and look up the numbers.

RICARDO VAZQUEZ Good morning I did check the other bearing dans ordered the 499502H but when you take of the wheel there is an extra piece that's over the axle that doesn't go trough the hole of the bearing the inside diameter is 5/8 but I want to email you some pictures i really need help

Sorry no. The carb cleaner dissolves all the old gasoline and clears that passages. WD-40 wont.

When I was cleaning my carburator I found it on the floor and I didn't know where it came from so I didn't put it back in.My carb got overflowed with gas and started leaking it and the kart wouldn't run and wouldn't idle. Was the needle the cause of all this?

The needle keep the gas at the proper level in the float bowl. Gas will run everywhere without it.

Could also be the pick up in the gas tank stopped up. When the gas sloshes around could put air in the line.
