just my opinion, I think I'd take out one of the bearings and just use two, every blade quill I ever saw only had two bearings but they did have a spacer between them to make sure they didn't slide close together. That way you'd have room for a seal and maybe the thrust bearing.

I'm thinking about that, but so far I haven't been able to remove the 3 bearings from the older case. They are in there! I am also considering machining the bottom of the gear so that I can use the thrust bearing rather than just a washer. I wish I could just do away with the transmission all together and use a torque converter, but I am limited in space and would still have to convert from one direction to another. I have created a quagmire for myself, but we'll figure it out. Thanks Vernon

Yeah, digging deep and getting ready to bury myself in it. Thanks Matt Hopefully it will be helpful to someone else who is tinkering with these Peerless transmissions.

That's quite the quandry. The timing mat be too advanced and make it pop into the carb too.The pressure relief loosens the exhaust, so it would pop out of the mufflers and not the carb. Good luck George.Thank you for showing us the innards of both trans.A good lesson for us.

Thank you Bry. I have the head off and found that the intake valve seems to be opening with too much overlap on the exhaust stroke. I'm trying to find the definitive details before I tear into the motor more again. To be honest I am thinking more about the Onan which needs ignition.

Very interesting George... Those cracks make me want to tig weld them so bad I can taste it lol 😂... Hope you find a solution and get the bearings out.

I would remove one bearing and replace it with a seal then add a shrink fit collar to strengthen the end of the case where output shaft comes out. That will stop your oil leak and add strength.

Sounds like a good plan. The problem I am having currently is that the middle bearing is jammed in the case, and it is not working well at any rate. Working on a solution to that problem. The sleeve might be hard to pull off since I already have a sleeve made to fit the column down into, welded right into the frame on the Goofy Cart. I'll have to so more measurements. All great suggestions at any rate. Thank you. This is the kind of input I need and enjoy reading.

@@TheShadeTreeFixitMan we all learn from others success ideas and failures. I restored classic cars for over 30 years and I still learn new things. Thats what makes hobbies fun. Good luck to ya on your project.

Good evening, George, My option I don't think you would have any issues as long as you use high temp grease on the bearings. It doesn't get used enough that the grease would disapate. Also the RPM of the shaft is not fast enough. Have a great weekend.

The issue I am running into now is that so far I haven't been able to get the bearings out of the good case. There are 3 in there, but the middle one is stuck and won't rotate properly. It appears to be jamming the outer ones, though they themselves work fine. Thanks for the good suggestion.

Thats a bummer george. Have you ever watched red neck computer geek. He has done some videos on the peerless transmissions and some problems and modifications about them.
