The fact that you can see in Ted’s expression how much he was hurt by what Rebecca admitted is like, the primary reason the show works. They make sure to show he’s not superhuman, and the kindness he has is an active choice.

Hannah Waddington credits Anthony Head for sticking around (i.e. "unpaid") after his side of the scene was shot, so that she had the actual character of Rupert to act against.

Rebecca's apology and Ted's immediate forgiveness always bring me to tears because you can tell Ted processed it before forgiving her. Too often kind characters are depicted as being kind only because they're too dumb to by cynical bastards like the rest of us. But Ted is intelligent and thought it through before forgiving her for a very good reason- divorce is a kind of trauma and people going through trauma do stupid and hurtful things sometimes. Love Ted, love Keeley & her own brand of kindness and faith in other people (trusting that Rebecca was still a good enough person to care about what Keeley thought about her if she kept up her lies), can finally start loving Rebecca now too!

Yes look at Ted. He processes it, but when she says ‘all you good people’ he knows he’s going to forgive her.

I think that moment with Rupert just hurt her so much that she finally hit rock bottom emotionally. She was so low that it didn't matter anymore how Ted would respond because it couldn't hurt worse than she already felt at that moment. And then Ted did the last thing she expected, he recognized her pain, and threw her a lifeline to help her back up.

I will never not point out that Ted calling Roy a "brunet Oscar the Grouch" eventually led to Brett Goldstein getting to guest star on Sesame Street and act against Oscar the Grouch, which was, in Brett's words, the happiest day of his life. Please look it up, it's so wholesome. (Dani Rojas' actor has also since guest starred on Sesame Street.)

I'm like Sassy a few episodes back. I liked Rebecca up to this point, despite her villainy. You could tell she had a good heart underneath despite the awful things she'd do. But the real Rebecca is awake now, and you're going to LOVE her.

The ending credits of this one rips my heart out. It’s very hard to let go of something you loved and cherished for a long time. I feel for Roy in this scenario and admire the courage it takes to face it head on. Gosh this show is so damn good

OMG, I laughed SO freakin' hard at your reaction to Rupert. You're such a nice guy and he just brings out this totally different side of you. 🤣

That scene, though. The "I guess I just didn't want children..." inspires a desire for giving Rupert a face punch in just about everyone I know.

@@Crazyivan777yes and the way he says how happy he is that he got to tell her in person. It COULD sound like he’s just happy to share it with her, but we all know he means that he’s happy he got to see that he still has the power to destroy her- and he knows that. He’s a uniquely cruel character.
@taneshah.1260 Жыл бұрын
@@Crazyivan777 Oh, I definitely wanted jump through the screen the first time I watched it. It was such an unnecessarily cruel thing to say. Even a simple "I changed my mind" would have been a little better.

If there is a Jeni's Ice Cream near you, they created a flavor called "Biscuits with the Boss" for a while. Not sure if they're still serving it.

13:37 I don't know that I'd ever noticed the Roy/Keeley Duality here before now. In an earlier episode she says "I never know to react when a grown man beat-boxes at me". 🤣

Love rewatching the series with you. I discovered the show 11 months ago, days after losing my dad. Little did I know how heartfelt and funny the show was, it was like medicine for my soul. Plus there is a lot of fatherly relationship content throughout the series. I look forward to the next seasons we will watch together!

Roy is my favorite character in the series. That said, I think there's one character who I think has a better arc. Don't want to spoil it though so... . . . . . . . . . Jamie Tartt. I don't necessarily like him all that much, but the twists and turns of his story are amazing.

I think when Rupert confronted Rebecca, she was deeply hurt but that allowed her to empathize with the pain she had been causing. Like Sassy said, she had to own up to her role in her life. Rupert is a jerk, but she doesn't want to be.

Just a small note based on some of your commentary at the end. I believe that their 3 seasons were all mapped out from the very start. Likely not every small detail that you'll see in the episodes but the general story always existed and as far as I know never really changed. Just soemthing to keep in mind as you're watching. They actually filmed most of season 2 before season 1 ever released on Apple. You'll also notice seasons 2 and 3 are 12 episodes instead of 10. These 2 extra episodes actually got added mid-filming of season 2, so there are 2 episodes in that season that are essentially "extra" and don't add much to the running narrative because they were inserted late in the process. They aren't worse in quality or anything (imo) but it's clear that they're both essentially pasues in the main story threads.

23:10 I like you, but I gotta say, that’s not the right word. To confront someone is to come up to someone with hostility, and as you know, that’s not how Rebecca approached Ted. A lot of people use the word “confront” wrong and it drives me nuts! Next time, just remember the adjective of that verb, “confrontational”, which I’m sure you know means to be aggressive or argumentative. That way you’ll remember the verb (to confront) has a negative definition/connotation.
